Editorial Review Product Description This IDC study presents the results and key findings from IDC's Global Delivery Index-Asia/Pacific (GDI-AP). The GDI-AP builds upon the foundation created by the previous versions and has been subject to enhanced methodology. The GDI-AP assesses 35 cities from across the Asia/Pacific (including Japan) or APIJ region, across a number of set criteria to establish a view of optimal global delivery locations. Cities are assessed on the basis of their potential to act as global delivery locations, and their future growth potential. Furthermore, IDC predicts how locations will stack up in 2013, on the basis on current initiatives and investment. This study also presents a comparative view of the competitive landscape, creating a picture of changing dynamics from 2009 through to 2013. "Global delivery centers would need to focus on creation of a more cohesive plan of differentiating itself from competing locations through government support and concerted efforts from the service providers (SPs). Cost considerations would still be there, but the formation of value-based offerings that would provide long-term benefits is the more pressing matter, " says Jubert Daniel Alberto, research manager, Printers and Peripherals, IDC Philippines. "The economic downturn created a fundamental shift in the nature of doing business and created a more internal focus for organizations. In the light of global sourcing and delivery, while "low-cost" continues to remain a fundamental asset, "high-value" is the direction where we are headed. With economic recovery in the horizon, cities that have/are investing in the long term (3–5 year time line), be it ICT, infrastructure, education systems, language skills, are most likely to reap benefits," says Suchitra Narayan, research manager, Services Team, IDC Asia/Pacific. |

Editorial Review Product Description This IDC Insight presents the results of IDC analysts' meeting in November every year to review the current year and discuss the emerging technologies and market changes that will impact and drive the future of the ICT market. This year, IDC is seeking to look at the 10 areas that we think will impact ICT market not only from the vendor perspective, but also from the perspective of end users (i.e., the way these new key trends will impact the way businesses will or should think of and implement IT). This study focuses on the latter, and it seeks to uncover what businesses should be aware of when making plans for ICT in 2010. The intended target audiences for this study are CIOs, CTOs, enterprise architects, IT sectors and CEOs, COOs, and CFOs of businesses that are technology biased and users of extensive IT applications. This study does not intend to demonstrate what IT strategy might be appropriate to any unique business or geography but merely to assist the reader in anticipating and preparing in advance for the major shifts and changes that IDC sees in the near future. It is not the intent of this study to appear unnecessarily "draconian" or severe with regard to "on-premises" technology conventions. It only intends to provide an early warning or precaution about the IT renaissance and subsequent radical shifts to resident architectures and cost structures that will likely take place over the next few years. The ways these changes and insights will uniquely impact your existing and future technology framework and business makeup are too varied to itemize and extrapolate. Hence, we can assist with the "to-know" aspect (which is implicit to each insight) but the "to-plan" and the "to-apply" aspects remain for each unique business to address. We recommend however, that a review and process of "dematerialization" commence as soon as possible (as described further). |

Editorial Review Product Description This IDC study estimates the total IT security services market to be worth nearly US$2.6 billion in 2013. This is based on a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11% over the forecast period. To understand the spending on security services by organizations, this study looks at the various drivers and inhibitors of the market, as well some of the key end-user insights obtained from the Asia/Pacific IT and Managed Services Survey conducted in 2008 and 2009. "The security services market will continue to grow as complexity and diversity of threats pushes organizations to be more cognizant of security, and the lack of manpower and expertise forces end users to turn to experts in the field for all aspects of securing their organization," says Gowtham Sampath, market analyst, IT Services, IDC Asia/Pacific. |

Editorial Review Product Description This IDC study presents our predictions for cloud services and technologies for 2010. With the promise of improving economic conditions removing some pressure for rapid ICT spending changes, in 2010 we expect that some of the hype around cloud services and technologies will abate, as time, understanding of cloud capabilities and limitations will increase, and maturing cloud services will allow for proper evaluations of cloud solutions. The year's key cloud-related events will revolve around some major areas of opportunity: the very strategic cloud platforms (and application programming interfaces [APIs]) battle, a wave of new public cloud services, the emergence and popularity of private cloud offerings, the rapid expansion of "appliance" versions of private and public cloud offerings, a growing variety of hybrid (public/private) cloud management offerings, and expanding distribution channels based on cloud services APIs. "The next three years will see fundamental changes within the ICT market, as more users consistently adopt more externally sourced services from cloud or managed service providers. The influence of the hardware and software OEMs will decline, and we expect the locus of power to move from the enterprise customer to the provider of cloud, managed, and outsourced services," says Chris Morris, research director, Services, IDC Asia/Pacific. |
