Editorial Review Product Description This IDC study presents our estimate of the current public cloud services market and a forecast for its growth during the next five years, based on IDC''s cloud services taxonomy. The Asia/Pacific cloud services market is complex; the region encompasses a range of markets with different levels of maturity, which results in different rates of adoption for cloud services. While the region includes some very large and rapidly growing markets in India and China, it is the more mature market of Australia that shows the greatest revenue early in the forecast period. However, as the emerging markets mature and infrastructure improves, particularly widespread access to broadband services, their cloud services markets will outperform the early-adopter countries. "The APEJ cloud services market will experience a period of rapid change between 2011 and 2014 as much improved regional broadband infrastructure reaches larger markets and the capability of cloud services matures and the breadth of services expands. With the promise of lower-cost services for application development and deployment and access to on-demand compute and storage services, both regional enterprises and application developers will be able to accelerate project delivery and better align their services with customer requirements," says Chris Morris, lead analyst, Cloud Technologies and Services, Practice Group, IDC Asia/Pacific. |

Editorial Review Product Description This IDC study forecasts revenue growth from public IT cloud services through 2014, segmented by five functional categories within eight regions/countries. The forecast data, driven by IDC's key assumptions for public IT cloud services development and adoption, lead to this document's key conclusions regarding cloud offerings' revenue and growth impacts on the IT industry, customer adoption shifts among the five IT cloud services categories, and shifting adoption patterns among the eight regions/countries. According to IDC Chief Analyst Frank Gens, "Our forecast shows that public IT cloud services are currently 'crossing the chasm,' with modest revenue but very fast growth. Cloud services will be a major contributor to IT industry growth by 2014. IDC sees 2010–2014 as important years for IT suppliers to position themselves to capture that growth." |

Editorial Review Product Description Chris was born around 1880, the son of a Chiricahua man and a Mescalero woman. At the age of six, he and his family and other Chiricahua Apaches became prisoners of war and were relocated by the U.S. government to Florida and Alabama. Eventually settling on the Mescalero Apache reservation in New Mexico, Chris grew up expecting to become a shaman like his parents. Although Chris apprenticed as a shaman, his confidence in his healing ability waned after he was forced at the age of seventeen to attend federal government schools. Nonetheless, his interest in Mescalero religion, healing, and other traditional customs and beliefs remained, and that intimate knowledge of his people's world underscores and deepens the story of his own life. Editorial Review Product Description This IDC Study is predicated upon IDC's belief that the Asia/Pacific IT services market and the economic environment in general are, at this juncture, poised at a pivotal stage of recovery. Analyzing the opportunity resulting from this, IDC undertook a regionwide exercise to analyze key green shoots for recovery in the IT services space, with the underlying objective to help stakeholders in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, market improve their competitive position. According to IDC, the three key green shoots for recovery of IT services are demand for (a) datacenter virtualization and consolidation, (b) hosted services, and (c) innovative delivery and pricing models. "The green shoots of recovery for IT services are prevalent, there is an inherent need to innovate and showcase accountability in order to gain competitive position in the market," says Mayur Sahni, Senior Analyst, IDC AP Services. "The 'new' economy will have more innovative offerings and will ensure the dawn of cloud-computing services in the Asia/Pacific market." |

Editorial Review Product Description In this IDC study, IDC services analysts come together to review the current year and discuss market trends that will impact and drive the future of the IT services market. One of the outcomes of this process is a shortlist of our top 10 predictions for the coming year. The list, discussed in this study, includes factors that IDC believes will have the biggest commercial impact on the services market across Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, in 2010. "The financial turmoil in 2009 forced CIOs in the region to evaluate new service delivery and pricing models with a key focus on "de-capitalizing" IT in the face of significant budget constraints," says Philip Carter, associate research director, IT Services Practice Group, IDC Asia/Pacific. "As a result, the financial model of the cloud and 'everything-as-a-service' became more attractive. This has set the scene perfectly for the locus of power to shift from traditional enterprise hardware and software vendors to the services players (and particularly the cloud) in 2010. Organizations that can successfully integrate these new models into their existing technology architectures and road maps, and vendors that can develop mindshare with the CIO in this area, will be best placed to 'ride the recovery curve' in 2010." |

Editorial Review Product Description This IDC study discusses the factors that will have the biggest commercial impact on the ICT market across Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, in 2010. After the effects of the 2008/2009 financial crisis, IT planning has undergone some major rethinking and this is reflected within IDC's predictions for 2010. As the economy begins to show early signs of recovery, the trends and behaviors that were born as a result of tightened purse strings should continue well into the recovery. "For end users, the manner in which IT is invested in, used, and accounted for has fundamentally changed: customer care is paramount, immediate ROI is mandatory, and everyone is accountable for driving value from IT, not just the CIO and his team. For vendors, the days of simply selling a point solution into the IT department with a fixed price point and straightforward list deliverables is long gone. In 2010, it will be the organization that is able to transform itself to effectively partner with complimentary industries, enable its sales force to sell across multiple business units, and finally create flexible pricing and delivery models that will come out on top," says Simon Piff, director, Enterprise Infrastructure, IDC Asia/Pacific. |
79. HP to Buy 3Com: Defending the Datacenter and Growing Cloud Capability by Chris Morris

Editorial Review Product Description The acquisition of 3Com by HP reflects more than a need for HP to increase its network product revenue. While it does broaden the existing ProCurve portfolio and deliver a very large market in the booming China market, it also allows HP to compete more effectively with former close partner Cisco. Cisco's move into the datacenter with the UCS offering fundamentally changed the datacenter market for all players. HP now stands in a position that can deliver not only increased networking revenue but also the ability to maintain its strong datacenter role and to facilitate future delivery cost reductions for its managed- and cloud-services portfolios. |
80. Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Services 20092013: Business Risk Mitigation Expected to Drive Demand in 2010 by Philip Carter, Gowtham Sampath, Chris Morris

Editorial Review Product Description This IDC study shows that the market for business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) services in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, region will experience a compound annual growth (CAGR) of 10.9% between 2008 and 2013. With this outlook, the market is expected to grow from US$626.62 million in 2008 to more than US$1 billion (US$1,050.59 million) in 2013. To understand the spending on business continuity services by organizations, this study looks at the various drivers and inhibitors of the market, as well some of the key end-user insights obtained from the Asia/Pacific IT Services Survey conducted in 2008 and 2009. "The BCDR market will continue to grow as organizations are faced with increasing concerns on security issues and natural disasters that have created an awareness for continuity solutions and the convergence of storage, security, and continuity forces organizations to seek vendors with capabilities to protect and secure their business," says Gowtham Sampath, market analyst, IT Services, IDC Asia/Pacific. |
