Fine pictorial overview of Hollywood fashion
As someone who's interested in fashion history (and who runs awebsite dedicated to the role of opera gloves in the history offashion and the movies, I found this book an excellent visual introduction to the importance of fashion in Hollywood.The writing is snappy and breezy, and the pictures (which, after all, *is* why you're buying this book - isn't it?) are gorgeous.Truth in packaging compels me to reveal that I read this book at my local library, but it's definitely on my wish list!END

Great photos with informative and entertaining stories
I purchased a copy of this book because so many of my favorite actors were shown in great photos. I started reading the captions and chuckled at the quick quips and short anecdotes. I ended up buying more copies as gifts.This book has turned out to be one of the best books I have ever given. Ihope others will get it for their library. It's not only for movie buffs,but the great photos and stories make a fun afternoon read.

If you love Hollywood -- you'll love this book!
I have seen Ms. Schreier on the A&E Channel on several occasions over the last few months discussing hollywood fashion in the movies -- she always provides so many great inside tidbits that I had to go and buy thisbook. The book did not disappoint! As a 40 year lover of the movies -- Ifound her stories enlightening as well as very entertaining. I can't waitfor the sequel!

The Enquirer seems reputable compared to this drivel.
Again, someone who is relying on old outdated myths and legend has written a book for sensationalism.Shreier's treatment of Clara Bow and Marion Davies is shameful to say the least considering all the facts that havebeen unearthed in recent years regarding both ladies.Bow triumphed at Foxwith her two final films, and it was HER OWN idea to retire to Nevada withher rancher husband Rex Bell; Fox begged Clara to stay.Davies was one ofthe most gifted and well loved clowns of her era.She is accumulating awealth of latter day fans who are discovering this fact.While stifledunder some of the more lofty productions hoisted on her by Hearst, Marionwas brilliantly funny in many films and also retired (as many of theleading ladies did at the time) when she hit 40.If you pick up this book,please read Shreier like Mother Goose, either way it's all fantasy.Let'stry to find the real facts when proposing to talk about other peopleslives. ... a duncan that dances with a camera
i have to admit i didn't buy this book at amazon.com.i bought it at the lincoln center branch of the new york public library.

duncan, as a photographer, may not have been as provocative as his contemporaries but he loved life and beauty as much as they did. his photographs have a great spontaneous energy to them that is extremely kinetic and engaging. it should come as no surprise that the bulk of his subjects were performers just be seeing the cover.

his fashion and physique studies may not be as penetrating as the work of platt lynes or unabashedly erotic as bruce weber, but his appreciation of the vacuous beauties of the 1970s is very apparent.

this book dresses a coffee table quite well. it is a good investment.

Boadway,s Best....

Kenn Duncan was the best photographer of the Broadway World.
Being an ex-dancer,he knew movement and placement,that is why his photo's are never dull or boring.Years ago his photo's were in "After Dark",a magazine dedicated to the stage and cabaret. They were the best at depicting what the world of Broadway looked like.........He is sorely missed......
