Excerpt: Dual Irish international footballers are a group of Irish international footballers who, between 1908 and March 1950, played for the international teams selected by both the (Northern) Irish Football Association and the Football Association of (Southern) Ireland. During this era at least 39 players represented both teams at a senior level. Between 1884 and 1924, Ireland was represented at football by a a single national team, selected by the Belfast-based Irish Football Association. However in 1920, Ireland was partitioned into Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. The latter eventually became the Irish Free State and then Republic of Ireland. Amid these political upheavals, a rival association, the Football Association of Ireland, was founded in Dublin and from 1924 it organised their own international team - the Irish Free State national football team. In subsequent years both the IFA and the FAI claimed jurisdiction over the whole of Ireland and selected players from the whole island. As a result between 1924 and 1950, there were in effect two Ireland national football teams chosen by the two rival associations. Between 1928 and 1946 the IFA was not affiliated to FIFA and the two teams co-existed, never...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=14914734 ... Read more

Excerpt: As Player As Manager James Leon "Jimmy" Wood (December 1, 1842 November 30, 1927) was an American second baseman and manager in Major League Baseball who hailed from Brooklyn, New York. He was the player-manager for four different teams in the National Association, where he spent his entire career. Wood's career in organized baseball began as early as 1860 when he began play for the Eckford of Brooklyn team, with whom he played for nine seasons during the following decade. In 1870, he took the position of player-manager for the Chicago White Stockings. It was here that he is credited for inventing Spring training when he moved his team down to New Orleans, Louisiana prior to season to train in warmer weather. For the 1871 season, the team became a charter member of the National Association, but folded the following season, and Wood moved on to manage two other ill-fated teams; the Troy Haymakers and his old Eckford team. The next season, 1873, he managed the Philadelphia White Stockings for a year until he was able to reorganize a new Chicago team. In 1874, he tried to lance an abscess on his leg with a pocketknife. This caused an infection which led to an eventual amputation of the leg. This did not end his managerial career, though; he returned to the Chicago White Stockings, and managed them for two seasons before the National Association folded in 1875. He then retired from professional baseball and moved to Florida and began investing in citrus interests. His daughter, Carrie, married William Chase Temple, who was at one time, the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was he who the Temple...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=8533779 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well written, researched.
I found this book to be superb.Buffett did not like it being written.

However, it is very well written and full of interesting facts.

Did you know that Hugh Taylor and Alex Taylor and not just James Taylor contributed to the "Volcano" album?

Did you know that Bob Mercer, the President of the now defunct Margaritaville Records is married to Margie, Jimmy Buffett's ex-wife?

A very interesting and informative book.Don't listen to these sheep who reject it only because Mr. Buffett did not like Steve Eng writing it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't Believe I Hate a Buffett Book
This book is downright awful.Let me warn you - stay away.I agree with the other reviews. There are detailed facts about things totally unrelated to Jimmy Buffett or even the point that the author is trying to make.I guess if you took out all of the irrelevant lines, the book would be only 20 pages of nothing new.
*You have been warned*

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Imitation
Eng has a lot of facts about the life of Jimmy Buffett but that's about all. Those of us who have been fans of his since the very beginning already knew most of them.Too much rambling speculation about Jimmy'spossible ancestors. Eng does not have near the writing talent that Jimmydoes so he should not have done this bio.His motivation seems to becelebrity and riches. If you want to read a really good book about the lifeof Jimmy Buffet up to age 50, "A Pirate Looks at Fifty" is thebest book I have read in many years. But what would else would we expectfrom a master storyteller?

1-0 out of 5 stars Tough Reading
I found the book very confusing. The author leaps from past pirate adventures to modern day Jimmy Buffett and back.I have had this book for over a year and have not been able to get past page 50.When Jimmy urgesMr. Eng not to continue the book, I think it was more for the reader's sakeand not for his own.Fins Up!

1-0 out of 5 stars zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have had this book since it first came out and i havent finished it yet!!go to your local bookstore, find this book,if its still out there.read jimmys letter to the author.close the book and go home knowing you haveread the best part!!true parrotheads will find A PIRATE LOOKS AT 50 thetrue JIMMY BUFFETT bio. ... Excerpt: Blayney Hamilton (13 June 1872 in County Louth, Ireland 16 December 1946 in Dublin) was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and left-arm spin bowler, he played nineteen times for the Ireland cricket team between 1891 and 1907, including one first-class match. Hamilton made his debut for Ireland against I Zingari in August 1891, and played twice more against the same opponents in July the following year. In September 1892, he went on the Irish team's tour of North America, first playing against Canada at the Toronto Cricket Club, a match in which he took 5/48, his first five-wicket haul. This was followed by a match against All New York on Staten Island in which he scored 80 in the Irish first innings, his top score for Ireland. This was followed by a three match series against Philadelphia at Manheim. The series was drawn 11, and Hamilton had a good series with the ball, taking eighteen wickets in all, including 6/64 in the Philadelphian first innings of the second match, his best bowling figures for Ireland at that time. The series was notable as the debut series of Bart King, widely regarded as the greatest American cricketer of all time. The following year saw matches against I Zingari, the Combined Services and Surrey, amongst others. He scored 60 not out in the first innings of the match against Surrey at The Oval, his second and final half-century for Ireland. Excerpt:Senior club appearances and goalscounted for the domestic league only.* Appearances (Goals) George Getgood (15 November 1892 22 July 1970) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a half-back for various clubs in the 1920s.
