Product Description

Julie Walters has been delighting audiences on screen and on stage for more than 25 years, and has been described as Britain's most popular actress and comedienne. Now she tells us her own story, in her own words. She was born in 1950s Birmingham, daughter of an austere Irish Catholic mother, and was sent to school in a convent. She wanted to be an actress from a young age, but to appease her mother she first went into nursing—that didn't last for long, and she soon joined Liverpool's Everyman Theatre. West End success followed, and she quickly replicated her success on film, earning an Academy Award nomination for her role in Educating Rita. Julie's collaborations with her close friend Victoria Wood have given audiences many unforgettable characters, and she's recently charmed a new generation of fans playing Mrs. Weasley in the Harry Potter films, alongside Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia!, co-starring with Helen Mirren in Calendar Girls, and co-starring in Billy Elliot. A natural writer with an instinctive sense of timing, Julie's memoir is warm, moving, painfully felt, fiercely intelligent—and totally entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars I just love Julie Walters!

4-0 out of 5 stars An amazing book from an amazing, and inspirational, lady.
Greatly enjoyed this book: thank you to my dear friend Sally for sending it on to me.

Julie Waters is an amazing actress I have long admired, and this book shows what an amazing life she has led.It is a honest look at life, complete with joys, sorrows, struggles, triumphs and misses, and this is what made it so engaging and interesting for me: a real and honest look back at one's life and an autobiopgraphy that praised others where it was due.I also found it an inspirational story, not only her following her dream but her battling, and in some way overcoming, the fear of failure and nervousness present in her life: as someone with great anxiety it has given me hope I can reach, or at least try and reach, a dream. An easy read, but a great and profitable one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Funny, well-written, and uniquely honest, Julie Walters' autobiography is not one to be missed. If anything deserves five stars, this does. It's gripping, entertaining, and deeply touching. While it's particularly a great read for fans of one of the world's greatest talents, it proves to be interesting no matter who the reader is, or what their knowledge is of Ms. Walters' film/tv/theatre career.

4-0 out of 5 stars Julie Walters - That's Another Story
An upbeat account of Julie Walters life to date. Interesting, at times funny but always from the heart. I thought Julie's honesty and modesty made this book - she came from a working class background and even though she has found fame (and one must assume a small fortune along the way) she remains down to earth and practical - somthing that we rarely find with today's so called celebrities - well done Julie! A good book for a wet and cold Sunday afternoon! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ...and I'll tell you no lies...
This is Scottish born, Julie Corbin's debut novel; It will appeal to readers who enjoy a good mystery/suspense thriller. Set in the beautifully described East Coast of Scotland, village life seems idyllic until that phone call which takes Grace back to her murky past. I read this book in 3 days and found it very difficult to put down! You feel sympathy for the heroine and want everything to be ok for her. I honestly didn't know how it was going to work out until near the end. Excellent!

Product Description
"

Chronic pain is the leading cause of disability in the United States, affecting as many as 48 million people in this country alone. It can demoralize and depress both patient and family, especially when there is no effective pain control and no hope for relief. Improperly managed, chronic pain can lead to substance abuse (usually painkillers) and to acute psychological and emotional distress. Pain begets stress and stress begets pain in a wretched downward spiral.

Silver reviews the causes and characteristics of chronic pain and explores its impact on individual family relationships and on the extended family, covering such issues as employment, parenting, childbearing and inheritance, and emotional health. Silver treats aspects of chronic pain not covered in a typical office visit: how men and women differ in their experience of chronic pain, the effect of chronic pain on a toddler's behavior or an older child's performance in school, the risks of dependence on and addiction to pain medications, and practical ways for relatives beyond the immediate family circle to offer help and support to the person in pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Julie Silver is as remarkable a writer as she is a physician
"Chronic Pain and the Family" is written for the family and friends of someone who suffers from severe pain all of the time. This is not to say that someone who is in pain won't benefit from this book; it's a book that serves all well and is applicable to all kinds of pain. Despite that, Dr.Silver adresses the important impact that someone's pain has on his family and friends. It is not possible that those who surround a situation are not affected by it in many ways. Why should it be different for chronic pain? Silver's book takes us from the very definition of pain, through all elements of pain, children, teens, the extended family, medication and potential addiction, depression, diagnosis as well as alternative therapy. Dr. Silver is knowledgable about the subject and seemingly still aware that the patients about whom she writes are human. This is an excellent book for anyone who has been in pain or knows someone who has pain. ... Read more

A truly out-of-this-world romance from LBD star Julie Cohen I, Philomena Desdemona Brown, do solemnly swear to forsake all romantic relationships...It's not like the vow, made by Fil and her three nerdy male best friends, seemed much of a big deal at the time. Frankly, Fil wouldn't know romance if it hit her in the face, and with her real love being her artist job at Girl from Mars, the comic whose heroine has never had a love interest, she doesn't exactly mind being relationship-free anyway. Until her world is rocked to its core when one of her long-standing quartet and Girl from Mars herself both unexpectedly fall in love. Is it time to give in to temptation and finally fall in love? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A genuinely sweet romance
This book was absolutely un-putdownable. It involves three exceptionally geeky friends who make a pact never to get involved in any romantic relationships. As luck would have it, the main character Philomena (aka Fil), meets the man of her dreams immediately after she takes the vow (partly in Klingon). She is torn: she has totally fallen for the new guy, but her old friends make it pretty clear they want her to focus on X-Files marathons with them.

The characters are fairly deep in this story, and I got pretty invested in finding out how things would go. Most of them are pretty vulnerable, and Cohen has made you understand their histories, their motivations and reactions, so you really want things to turn out OK for them. Innocent, caring Fil is especially adorable, and every character grows a little by the end.

I don't want to give too much away about the love story, but I found it genuinely romantic. The fact that the book was set in the world of comics was also really cool (I've never read a romance novel with a key scene at ComicCon before).I've been up and down about Little Black Dress books in the past, but this one's making me want to check out some more Julie Cohen. Hurray for new author finds!

5-0 out of 5 stars Girl from Mars - a great book about love and friendship

"Girl from Mars" by Julie Cohen was my first Little Black Dress book by her (she also writes for Harlequin/MillsandBoon) and I just loved it.
Philomena Desdemona Brown's (she goes by Fil) life couldn't be better, she has three great male friends (all single and a bit nerdy) that share her love for comics and ScFi and accept her exactly like she is (blue hair and all). Plus a job she loves as the artist who draws "Girl from Mars" the best female super hero out there.
But when one of her friends suddenly is in a steady relationship the dynamics of their friendship change irrevocable and Fil just doesn't know how to handle the new situation.
But not only her private life gets more complicated by the minute, because sale numbers are down Fil is forced to work with famous screenwriter/director Dan McKay (a real hottie). Dan has some new ideas how to spice up the love life of "Girl from Mars" but Fil is shocked by the new developments because she doesn't want anything to change in "her" comic. Even though Dan and Fil come to an understanding regarding the comic things still stay complicated between them because they are attracted to each other but Fil is afraid of how a relationship with Dan would change her frienship with her platonic friends. Things get even more difficult when she falls in love with Dan, the father of one of her friends nearly dies and she realizes that her best friend may have deeper feelings for her.

"Girl from Mars" is a great book. Fil, her friends and Dan are great characters and I loved reading about Fil and Dan and how their relationship evolves. But I also enjoyed the platonic friendship between Fil and her male friends. I can absolutly understand why Fil is afraid of change and that's why I love that in the end she understands that change can be positive and beautiful and is finally ready for it.
I can sincerely recommend this awesome book about love and friendship to all fans of romances. ... Read more

Product Description
A Poetry Book Society Recommendation. Tell Me This Is Normal is a generous selection of Julie O'Callaghan's poetry. She is a singularly acute observer of human behavior, with a sharp Swiftian eye and an alert ear that have made her one of the finest and funniest practitioners of the monologue in poetry. Yet, notably in the poems charting her father's illness and death, she can also strike an elegiac and heartbreaking note. ... Read more

When beautiful, glamorous Shilpa Shetty entered the "Celebrity Big Brother" house, little did she know that her presence there would spark an unprecedented media frenzy. As the show unfolded, divisions grew between certain contestants and the hostilities that followed led the public to accuse programme bosses of allowing racist bullying against Shilpa to occur unchecked. Shilpa is so famous in her home country that she is mobbed wherever she goes. Having made her name first as a model and then as an actress, she entered the "Celebrity Big Brother" house to 'clear out misconceptions about Indian people. What has taken place has led to her becoming one of the most popular contestants ever- there is not a person in the land who does not know who Shilpa is! 4-0 out of 5 stars An okay read, but don't expect rocket science!
This is a book that was written because of an argument that happened in a TV reality show. However despite this, it is quite a good book, giving a good insight to the life and times of the little known Bollywood Star (at least here in the UK until the Shilpa and Jade blow up) Shilpa Shetty.

Its got a good selection of photos in it, is a real easy read, don't expect anything remotely intelligent or profound, it's a celebrity expose that has been written for one reason, to make money.

All the same it gives a good insight to the life and times of an ambitious young woman who did a tacky reality TV show and came out smelling of roses.
