Informative, great homeschooling tool
We bought the MP3 recording of the Josefina story collection for my six year old homeschooling daughter, as we are living on the road and listening to books on tape is a long-lasting, space-compact form of entertainment for traveling.She has listened three times through to the five hour series as we travel through the southwest, pointing out yucca (Josefina uses the roots for soap suds) and rabbit brush and prickly pear, mentioning a spanish word here and there.It has been a highlight of this month for her and she has learned immeasurably from it.We bought this book as a companion to the audible stories - no dolls or other books, just the MP3 and this reference book.And it's a perfect combo, giving her something to refer to as she's listening.We have spent hours looking through this together and it gives her a basis for her own drawings as she listens.I can't recommend this informative series highly enough.We'll be buying the Addie MP3s as we travel through antebellum south next month.She says about this book, "I like it, it's interesting.There's cool different things that we don't do in our life that I can learn about.It's a really fun book and it teaches six year olds about different kinds of lives and different kinds of places."

awful waste of time!
I never received the book!! Following is the lame excuse I received from the seller after a month of waiting and no communication from her in spite of a claim to the contrary:

"Yes, I did respond to your email!I never received an email from Amazon in the first place that the book had been sold!. I also never sent a confirmation that the book was sold and would be shipped on a certain date! You are supposed to already have a refund on the cost.I am very sorry for the inconvience that this has caused you. The book is no longer available. All I can do is offer my apologies in the matter."

I would not do business with this vendor again and warn anyone who would to check that Amazon got the "confirmation the book had been sold." Baloney!!

What a World!
"Josefina's World" is an excellent supplement to the Josefina chapter books and short stories.Although each chapter book and short story has a section in the back with historical information that is relevant to the story in the book, "Josefina's World" is a colorful, informative historical overview with the kinds of information that readers will most want to know. There are wonderful cut-away pictures of Josefina's rancho and of a pueblo, which many children will find appealing. The experiences of birth, childhood, and marriage are covered along with fashion, cleanliness, faith, health and medicine, and the importance of the role of the community. Stories of real people of the time and the retelling of the folk tale of "La Llorona" supplement the text.Historical information slips in with the coming of the Spanish, the blending of Pueblo and Spanish cultures, the significance of trade from Mexico City and the Santa Fe Trail, and the coming of the Americans in the mid-nineteenth century.The text is divided into short sections that are easy to read and full of accurate, important historical information. The pictures show delightful representations of colonial New Mexico and even someone who does not read the text will get a comprehensive view of Josefina's World.

BORING
This book is a little too squeaky clean for my taste.LL has been through a lot of tragedy and triumph in his life, so why does he have a difficult time writing out a cuss word?He does not really take you into his life or provide a gritty profile of abuse or the ghetto he grew up in.It's not worth the time.

He is no Boy Scout, but an inspirational and positive story for any teen or adult.
As a white, middle class female reader who listens to classic rock as opposed to rap or hip hop, I loved this book. I read it in one night and found itso compelling,that I could not put it down.Yes-the book has explicit stories about sex and some drug use, but it also shows humor,(the scene with the white racist wrestler from South Africa),laughter and love. Several times when he refused to take his hat off were funny too.

After reading this book I believe that he has incredible strength-I'm not talking physical,but mental and emotional-to pull himself away from the feel good lifestyle of a rapper. However I think his wife Simone must also be made of steel. She is not only a tough streetwise, lady but also a forgiving woman who I think is the source of a lot of his strength. I wonder if she is able to trust him whenever he leaves home for a concert and is away overnight..If she does I give her a lot of credit. Many women I think would have trouble with that. And I also believe he is deserving of her trust as proven by the incredible book he wrote.

I also think he is a good father and positive male roll model,especially considering the horrible men,(with the exception of his grandfather), he grew up with.

LL Cool J is Classic
I have been a fan of LL Cool J for a long time, and after reading this book I look at him totally different. I enjoy the fact that he waas honest about his struggles with his readers. This book has help me open my eyes and see him not only as an artist but as a human being,and family man.I love this book and I encourage everyone to read this book.

I hoped the book would be more; but, it's still good.
Good book, not great.A look into the life of L L.It's a very positive book.I was disappointed that he wasn't more specific on some issues.He only very briefly talks about Fubu.He doesn't mention the controversey with the Troop clothing line at all.He doesn't include his famous rap battles with Kool Moe Dee or Ice T or the battle he had against Jay Z.He talks briefly about how he almost went broke but he doesn't specifically cover how he was losing so much money.He doesn't talk at all on what made him get more involved in body building.I hoped the book would be more; but it's still good.It's a "feel good" kind of up book.It's good reading for any age.

What a good book!He has a very deep history and I love the fact that he was not at all trying to brag about being rough when he was young (help him with a"ganster rap" image) or by how big he has become.He is a very REAL human- down to earth.You feel it in his music, but really get to learn through this book.Just a great guy! ...
