Excerpt: Radio is the debut album of American rapper LL Cool J, released November 18, 1985 on Def Jam Recordings in the United States. It serves as the label's first full-length album release. Recording sessions for the album took place during 1984 to 1985 at Chung King House of Metal in New York City. The album was primarily produced by Rick Rubin, who provided a sparse and minimal production style. Radio also features a sound that is punctuated by DJ scratching, mostly brief samples, and emphasis of the downbeat. LL Cool J's b-boy lyricism conveys themes of inner city culture, teenage promiscuity, and braggadocio raps. The album experienced a significant amount of commercial success and sales for a hip hop record at the time, earning U.S. Billboard chart success and selling over 500,000 copies within its first five months of release. On April 19, 1989, Radio was certified platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), following sales in excess of one million copies in the United States. Initial criticism of the album was generally positive, as LL Cool J's lyricism and Rick Rubin's production were praised by several music critics. It has since been recognized by critics as LL Cool J's greatest work. Reflecting the new school and ghettoblaster subculture in the U.S. during the mid-1980s, Radio belongs to a pivotal moment in the history and culture of hip hop. Its success contributed to the displacement of the old school with the new school f...http://booksllc.net/?id=211553 ... Read more

Excerpt: The feud between G-Unit and The Game is a rap rivalry that began in early 2005. When The Game signed onto Aftermath Entertainment, it was later arranged that he would work with 50 Cent and his hip hop group G-Unit. The sudden feud between the pair, who had been marketed as having a mentor/protégé relationship, started soon afterwards. The two were able to put their differences aside for the release of The Game's debut album, The Documentary which was released on January 18, 2005. The album was a success for The Game and had three singles that featured 50 Cent. The release date of 50 Cent's second album, The Massacre, was pushed back in order to accommodate The Game's album, causing a rift between 50 Cent and Interscope Records. Tensions would rise during the filming of the music video for The Game's third single, "Hate It or Love It", when 50 Cent refused to shoot a scene in the front seat of a car with The Game, instead sitting in the back (The Game's brother, Big Fase 100, would replace him). 50 Cent later dismissed The Game from G-Unit on Hot 97 radio. After the announcement, The Game, who was a guest earlier in the evening, attempted to enter the building with his entourage. After being denied entry, one of his associates was shot in the leg during a confrontation with a group of men leaving the building. When the situation escalated, both rappers held a press conference to announce their reconciliation. Fans had mixed feelings as to whether the rappers created a publicity stunt to boost the s...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=8870561 ... Read more

Excerpt: "Control Myself" is a song by American rapper LL Cool J from his twelfth album, Todd Smith (2006). It was produced by Jermaine Dupri and features fellow American singer Jennifer Lopez (the song also has spoken parts by Dupri, but he is not credited). The track contains a sample of Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force's 1982 song "Looking for the Perfect Beat", while the vocals interpolate Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel's 1983 song "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)" and Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force's 1982 song "Planet Rock". It was released as the album's lead single in February 2006 and remained on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks, peaking at number eighty-nine. After being released as a digital download in April 2006, the song debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart and made a strong Hot 100 re-entry at number four. This broke a record previously held by Jay-Z's 1998 aong "Hard Knock ...http://booksllc.net/?id=3749347 ... Read more

Commentary (music and lyrics not included).Chapters: All I Have. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 138. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: "All I Have" is a song by American singer Jennifer Lopez, featuring American rapper LL Cool J. Written by Lopez, Makeba Riddick, Curtis Richardson, and Ron G and produced by Cory Rooney, Ron G, and Dave McPherson, it was released in early 2003 as the second single from Lopez's third studio album, This Is Me... Then (2002). The song reached number one in the United States and New Zealand, and entered the top five and the top ten in several countries. After the success of "All I Have" with LL Cool J, the track was later included on the re-issue of his album 10. The song is based around a sample from Debra Laws' 1981 song "Very Special", written by Lisa Peters and William Jeffrey. It was originally intended to be titled "I'm Good", but was changed because it sounded too similar to her 2001 hit "I'm Real". The music video for the single was shot in New York City in November 2002 and released in January 2003. It features Lopez and LL as former lovers now broken up. The two recall the good and bad times while dealing with being alone for the holidays. Lopez shows up to LL's house with a gift. With him not there, she puts the gift under the tree. He later sees the gift under the tree and realizes it was from Lopez. He opens the gift and sees a golden key. Upset at the relationship being over, he throws the key in the fireplace while a tearful Lopez gets help from her friends with her things. The video was shot right before Thanksgiving, but did not premiere on television until after Christmas. On the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, "All I Have" debuted at number twenty-five the last charting week of 2002, which was December 28, easily becoming the highest-debuting so...http://booksllc.net/?id=2550946 ...
