Her Best friend`s Baby
Great book & I have most of the series & have read most of the series of 25 books.

Great read with well-rounded characters
Plot Summary: Mary Jane Potter, who lives in Austin, is acting as a surrogate mother for her best friend Arielle and Arielle's husband Morgan.Arielle was Mary Jane's nanny, basically raising her when Mary Jane's father distanced himself after the death of his wife, so Mary Jane feels she owes Arielle a lot.One horrible day, Morgan arrives with the news that Arielle is now dead, and as they deal with their grief over her death, and struggle with who Arielle was to both of them, they also begin to fall in love.

"Her Best Friend's Baby" is part of the Maitland Maternity series by Harlequin.I can't speak on how it fits into the remainder of the series, because I haven't read them.

This is a really well-written, well-developed offering by Thompson.The characters are believable and become very real, and the development of the romantic relationship between the two characters is sensitively handled.

In a situation such as this, it would be easy for the development of the romance to feel like a violation of Arielle's memory.But Thompson does a good job of developing both the character's feelings towards one another and their eventual acceptance of their grief.As both of them come to terms with the reality of their relationships with Arielle, they also come to understand how much they can give to one another.

Because this book comes out in a more mainstream line, Thompson doesn't include any of the imaginative erotic scenes that are part of her Blaze/Temptation books.However, she still handles the love scenes with a deft and sensitive touch, making them both erotic and believable.

Laught out loud funny
I have not laughed out loud when reading a book in years, and this was fantastic.There were too many funny scenes to name them.Lynn's parents are talking of getting a divorce, however she knows that they will join forces to "save" her.So she asks a friend at her law firm to play the part of her hell-raiser boyfriend.There are some crazy make out scenes and pretty detailed foreplay.The author does a fantastic job of mixing humor and sexual chemistry together.

Great story with many twists, parental discord & finding love
Vicki Thompson is an author whose books I can't put down once open. To me this is her best. Two lawyers get involved when she, trying to stop her parents pending divorce comes up with a wild idea of deceipt to bring them
together. Her cohort, a seeming staid dull guy agrees to become her gigilo
lover. But she does not know he had been wild in high school. When they meet her parents, he is kissing her wildly. She puts her hand in his back
jeans pocket to show their sexual involvement. The parents are appalled that she is going with such a creep and try to break it up. Yet he bonds with them. As he does, their objections decrease and affection for each other re-unites. She had wanted a real lover but never envisioned him until their ploy breaks down her defenses and love develops. An outsider
tries to steal her away using a ruse. They rush to find her. Love starts
to develop. However she had told her mother that the gigilo would wrongly claim he was a legal partner. He learns of her deception and gets furious.
Will her parents stay together? Can she return to work along side with her deep love for him and his disdain? The book is delighful fun w/some twists and very hard to put down. I got emersed in it. You will too. I highly recommend this book to anyone who vaguely enjoys Vicki Thompson. A+

LOVE IT....!
BERFORE i start the first story really really did it for me...
If you enjoy a fun, sassy read with three great heroines and three even hotter heroes, than this is the book for you. The stories all tie together nicely, yet easily stand alone.

Fun Anthology!
So the three stories here are all linked- 3 gals- one store as the central thing that ties the stories together.
1- Vicki Lewis Thompson's tale is pure sex, wit, comedy and fun!
2- Stephanie Bond- some danger, crossed wires, a hero who needs to grow up and quit being a guy and more of a man to get the woman. This one is not your typical guy meets girl again story- much meatier than I expected from a short novella.
3- Leslie Kelly- bashfully buxom nice girl is the star of men's fantasies at a naughty lingerie shop! And the guy she meets is one of her biggest fans.... sensitive handling of how being built like Dolly Parton when you are not a country western singer is handled well.

There should be a follow up to this book! Plenty of characters introduced here could be expanded on for more.

For more reads - I recommend the Vicki Lewis Thompson Blaze titles and Nerd in Shining Armor.
I love the Stephanie Bond Harlequin Temptation and Harlequin Love & Laughter titles- esp WIFE is a 4 Letter Word.
Leslie Kelly is improving- her more recent offerings are better than her earlier ones.

...Ms. Blake but I've got to disagree. While I enjoyed the first two stories (especially Ms. Thompson's) Leslie Kelly's was by far the best. I recently discovered her and have since snapped up her backlist which I found to be wonderful. These three writers wrote an online continuation of the Red Doors story on eharlequin and Ms. Kelly's was again my favorite. I love her humor and her skill with character and dialogue. She is definitely a writer to watch.

very enjoyable read
I enjoyed this book, have read it several times because I love the characters and the sparkling JAK bickering.

Emily is patted on the head by her whole family, but she never really gives into them or loses her spunk. Jacob is one of the Alpha males that JAK characters loves to run circles around and this is one of her better 'early' works.

Her writing is sharp, the wit incisive and I love the heart she put into this one.

Emily has been in love with Jacob Stone, corporate trouble shooter for her families international business. He once rescued her from a kidnapper, and from that moment Emily secretly kept that awe and love locked in her heart. Two years later, she decided to act on that love and Stone turned her away.

Now,three years since that bruise to her heart, Stone is once more rescuing her from danger - this time a bad engagement. The family fears the son of a competitor is using Emily to gain stock in their business. I loved how Krentz's character thought of Stone, she "thought of him in the same way she thought of hurricanes, charging lions and marauding sharks." You got to love it!!

Wit and simmering sex from two romance stars!
This collection is a Harlequin two-for-one book (...).

The first book, Full Bloom by Jayne Ann Krentz, is a reprint of one of her short contemporaries (55,000 words or so) from 1987. If you never read it, it is one of her better works of that genre and well worth having.

Emily Ravenscroft is tired of her rich, domineering parents overseeing her every move. And she is equally tired of the interference of Jacob Stone, the tough, sexy troubleshooter her family has sent after her for years to make sure she stays out of trouble. Jacob has been extremely attracted to Emily since the day he met her, but as far as he's concerned, she is strictly off-limits as the daughter of his employers. Unfortunately for his determined vow, Emily has recently decided she is tired of being dutiful, and fiercely protests when her parents sic Jacob on her once again. She doesn't want Jacob as a watchdog, she wants him for a lover, and this go-round, she's determined to change the status quo.

This sprightly book is full of Krentz's trademark, witty sparring between an ultra-masculine, independent hero and a feisty, determined woman. I love the way the two of them battle each other, are equally stubborn and intelligent, and the way all of these elements together make for very hot sex. However, the sex is, thank goodness, also very loving. You can count on Krentz to never dump a hero and heroine into sordid, "let me use you for a while" sex. Her powerful protagonists are always discriminating lovers with strong ethics of generosity and loyalty.

The second book, Compromising Positions by Vicki Lewis Thompson, is a brand-new contribution to her lucky fans. Thompson has written a lot of short contemporaries, and this book definitely fits into that category being about 55,000 words or so. She has a strong feel for the requirements of this popular subgenre of romance, and always respects her fans by lovingly crafting her books.

Mick Farrell has been in business only one week with a brand-new bodyguard business, and he is desperate to get it off the ground. While waiting around for the phone to ring, his younger sister's best friend, Stacy Radcliffe, shows up. She wants to be his assistant, but Mick has no intention of hiring her. He's always been attracted to the beautiful, lively Stacy, but he has no desire to get romantically involved with a woman who shares every tidbit of her life with his baby sister! Unfortunately, his well-laid plans are thrown into a cocked-hat when a former lover of his shows up needing his professional services. As much as he needs her business, the lady is a tiger, obviously after far more personal attention than money can buy from poor Mick. Suddenly he decides he's going to need a bodyguard of his own to ward off the predatory woman, and Stacy is just what he needs to fill the bill.

This story is an excellent pairing with the Krentz book. Like Krentz, Thompson is excellent at getting a story off to a running start. Stacy and Mick collide by page three, begin to strike sparks, and don't stop blazing until the very end. They are a very good match for each other, each attractive, intelligent, ambitious, forthright, more than a little brash, and looking for work they can really sink their teeth into. Of course, work isn't the only thing they want to gnaw on! These two are a combustible combination serving up lots of exciting love scenes.

Not all double books are worth the extra cost, but I don't believe you'll be sorry if you give this one a try. ... Read more

three fun contemporary New York romances
