Product Description
"Three Men In A Boat" by Jerome K. Jerome is one of the most amusing and durable books in the English language. Semi-autobiographical, it recounts the many adventures and mishaps of George (George Wingrave), Harris (Carl Hentschel), J. (the author and narrator) and his remarkable dog, Montmorency, during a boating trip on the Thames in the late nineteenth century. Jerome K. Jerome originally wrote the book as "A Guide to the Thames Valley" with lengthy historical sections lightened by comic interludes. However, his publisher greatly preferred the humour and asked for many of the historical sections to the guide to be cut out. So almost by accident the author wrote a hilarious book of adventures on the Thames.Vignettes included in this abridgement are the classic story of Harris lost in the Hampton Court maze, the hilarious description of three girls towing a boat, the three men's absurd attempts at putting the cover on their boat for the night and their futile efforts at opening a tin of pineapple. This book is a great rollicking barrage of fun. This new book and CD pack will appeal to listeners who are also keen readers, or vice versa.CSA WORD's award winning production of Jerome K. Jerome's book will be a real treat to anyone who has enjoyed reading the story in the past, and to anyone who enjoys a great laugh with a dollop of ridiculousness thrown in for good measure. Hugh Laurie is a perfect reader, with his mixture of foppish intonation and comedic stylings. His voice lends the reading a real personality, and a listener will truly believe that they are floating down the river, only being disturbed from this sanctuary every five or so seconds by the escapades of 3 hilarious men and their erratic, excitable and often irratable dog... ... Product Description
Gerald would love to join in with the other animals at the Jungle Dance but everyone knows that giraffes can't dance ...or can they? This classic and bestselling picture book is now brought to life on DVD. Watch Gerald and his animal friends dance to the jungle music in this lively animation, narrated by actor Hugh Laurie, then join the party with the read along activity and dancing games.Amazon.com Review
Gerald the giraffe doesn't really have delusions of grandeur. He just wants to dance. But his knees are crooked and his legs are thin, and all the other animals mock him when he approaches the dance floor at the annual Jungle Dance. "Hey, look at clumsy Gerald," they sneer. "Oh, Gerald, you're so weird." Poor Gerald slinks away as the chimps cha-cha, rhinos rock 'n' roll, and warthogs waltz. But an encouraging word from an unlikely source shows this glum giraffe that those who are different "just need a different song," and soon he is prancing and sashaying and boogying to moon music (with a cricket accompanist). In the vein of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Gerald's fickle "friends" quickly decide he's worthy of their attention again.

With this rhyming, poignant (in a cartoonish way) tale, Giles Andreae, author of Rumble in the Jungle, and numerous other picture books, shows insecure young readers that everyone can be wonderful, even those that march to the beat of a different cricket. The rhymes are somewhat awkward, but the bold, bright watercolors by Guy Parker-Rees will invite readers to kick up their heels and find their own internal harmony. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific tool for classroom
My daughter (public school dance teacher) has used this book in her younger classrooms to help create interest in dance. The young students love this story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Continues to be a family favorite!
This was my nephew and neices favorite book for Aunt Theresa to read when they were little. But even as they grew older, they still loved to read it themselves. I can't think of a better message to share than "believe in yourself, no matter what. And always dance!" I asked the kids, now 7, 10 and 12, if I could give the book to their new cousin. They considered it and decided that we should buy him his own. Giraffes Can't Dance was one of only a handful of books they took with them during a recent move to their new house and they didn't want to part with it. :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Story
This story is adventerous and fun. Each time we read it there is plenty to talk about. The illustrations are colorful, the pages are sturdy and it capivates my five year old and my 20 month old. I would buy another book from this seller.

1-0 out of 5 stars So not even worth looking at!
I really can't understand why this book was reviewed so well. There are no giraffes dancing..the story is so basic and boring and my 3 year old looked at it for about 2 seconds. Don't waste your money!

5-0 out of 5 stars So great

5-0 out of 5 stars A solid collection of Alcott's stories
The Dover Thrift Edition of "Short Stories" by Louisa May Alcott contains 5 pieces: "Obtaining Supplies," "A Night," "My Contraband," "Happy Women," and "How I Went Out to Service."The book includes a brief introductory note on the life and career of Alcott.

The first two stories are from Alcott's "Hospital Sketches"; together with the third story, they deal with protagonists who work as nurses for Civil War soldiers."My Contraband" has as a key theme the legacy of slavery."Happy Women" is more of a sketch celebrating single women, and the final piece tells the "serio-comico experience" of a young woman who goes to work as a domestic companion.

I read this book shortly after reading Alcott's novel "The Inheritance," written when she was only 17; that simple but charming work makes for a fascinating contrast with the polished maturity of the pieces in this volume.Overall, this collection shows Alcott's wit, humor, compassion for humanity, attentive eye, and particular concern for women's issues. This short (55 + vii pages) book is a wonderful collection by one of the most remarkable figures in American literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Earlyshort stories still show great talent.
Even though Miss Alcott didn't have as much writing experience when she wrote these short stories, they are still a wonderful read. The first two stories are from 'Hospital Sketches'and are wonderful. "A Night" is a gripping acount based on her experience as a Civil War nurse. In the story a nurse is staying up all night with a dying soldier. The story is beautiful. "My Contraband" is a sad tale of how the war and slavery tore apart families. The last two stories are an enjoyable read also. Hey, for 90 cents this book is more than worth the price. If you like Louisa May Alcott, you won't be dissapointed with these stories, so give this book a try.

5-0 out of 5 stars A charming array of little stories
Many of these brief but captivating stories are lovely, but one in particular captured my interest, and that was about the secret lives of silverware. There are other nonsensical but entertaining stories in thisvolume, all of which are perfect to read aloud to young children. The factthat these are lesser known makes it an all the more intriguing addition toyour library.Simply enchanting! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Jungle Magic!
I bought this picture book for my daughter. The fun, colourful illustrations appealed to her and they introduce animals to be found in a jungle. She can recognise and name most of the jungle animals; her favourite being the elephant.I particularly enjoyed the opening poem, and the rhyming text informs and amuses.

I have recently written a new children's fairy tale, which introduces a new heroine who goes on a magical adventure in a forest where she is tested when a spell disrupts the peace of the forest. For young readers who enjoy illustrated books.

5-0 out of 5 stars When a 3 year old asks for it by name, You know it must be good!
As the daughter of a librarian, and a book lover myself; we do not have a shortage of OUTSTANDING children's books at our house. My children are quite used to, and look forward to finding new books from Santa,in their Easter Baskets, and as rewards for Jobs Well Done, etc. The other day I went to pick up my 3 year old son from daycare and he brought me this book and asked,

"Mommy, will you get one for me?"

When it is requested by a 3 year old, you know it must be a keeper!

5-0 out of 5 stars well written story book
Unusually well written story book with fantastic color and fun to read and have read to kids

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun book
The colorful exaggerated illustration attracts little ones very well. My two and half years old son would be so busy to find where animals were along with the story went on each page. He found this book in his daycare library and requested someone to read with him every time he was in the little library. I eventually ordered one copy for him. This book has been one of his favorite books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful art and poems!
Brilliant, cartoony art introduces kids to a variety of jungle animals and the prose has a rhythm that reflects the "Rumble" of the jungle.

1-0 out of 5 stars A complete waste of money!
As I collect the rowing careers of both Ran and Hugh Laurie I purchased this book to add to my collection. While I cannot speak to the information contained in chapters about the other Leander members, what is written on the Lauries is simply a compilation of material from websites such as Wikipedia and IMDB. In many cases this comes word for word, and complete with the inaccuracies contained in the original source. It is, in my opinion, a complete waste of money, unless people do not have access to the internet, or cannot be bothered to do a Google search. Very disappointing! ... Read more
