4-0 out of 5 stars love it!
you have to be a fan of this style of humor, but it made me chuckle for hours.totally worth owning in my opinion.i love fairies and this will help you see them in a totally differently light.full of creativity and interesting picture.very enjoyable.

4-0 out of 5 stars A journal? Far too nice to write in!
Classed by many as an 'any year diary/jouranl' personally I find this book far too beautiful to actually write in.

If you are a Froud fan this book is a must, but it is a companion piece so do not expect a whole new range of the fairy art. Based on the original 'Pressed Fairy Book' this book contains many of the same 'pressings' and quotes from the story. As well as witty comments for select days of the year.

May 3rd, "Bent wand straightening day"

May 9th, "Royal society for the prevention of cruelty to fairies founded"

5-0 out of 5 stars From the Birth of Moonhopper to Fairy Eve's Year News....
If you're a fan of the Cottington fairy lore (the Pressed Fairy Book, Strange Stains and Mysterious Smells, and you might as well include the Goblin Companion since it too is made by the wonderful team of Froud and Jones), you'll never run out of holidays, or, as I call them, Excuses to Play Kazoo, Blow Bubbles, And Generally Make A Fool Of Myself. Some olidays are for elves or pixies or goblins only, but, if you consider the malleable nature of the celebrants as mentioned in other Froud books, this isn't really much of a hindrance.Consider this book as having four stars on it's own, but five when coupled with anything else by Terry Jones and Brian Froud.

it is a datebook, i thought it would be more like another book to the set, it is very pretty though.

"This is the tale of a Viking warrior who lived hundredsand hundreds of years ago. His name was Erik. His ship was calledGolden Dragon, and its figurehead was a fierce monster carved out ofwood and covered with gold." So begins this lively series ofadventures from master storyteller Terry Jones. Drawn from the mostthrilling Nordic Sagas, Erik the Viking tells of a hero and hisbrave band of men who set sail in search of a new land. The wickedtreachery of the Old Man of the Sea, the beguiling evil of theEnchantress of the Fjord, the ruthless and cold-blooded fury of theDogfighters are but a few of their gripping encounters. 4-0 out of 5 stars great story, picture book ed. is much better!!!
We found our first copy of this book at a used book store and loved it!We are now wanting to get copies for others. However, the edition we have has full-color (watercolor) illustrations by Foreman that are stunning and add so much to the tale. The version offered here appears to be black and white and without nearly as many pictures. My 10 year old first thought that the story would be for little kids (he has been reading avidly since age seven when he first read Eregon, The Hobbit, and the like) but soon discovered otherwise. This is a book that we read together as a family and we all enjoyed (even my 4 year-old who "hates" books). This is the only "picture book" that my kids still ask to read as a family, and to see that this version lacks the amazing artwork of other editions is dissapointing.I would suggest to everyone to find the full-color edition, it is completely worth any extra time and cost to have that element. Our copy is published in 1985 by Puffin Books/the Penguin Group with a ship set against a sunset as the cover art. That version, I would give 10 stars if I could!

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment at it's NORDIC BEST!
The boys from Monte Python have done it!After reading this book, I was thoroughly satisfied.I don't know what I expected to find within, but the impulse buy was worth it.The illustrations are lovely, and the stories are filled with meaning that you will carry with you always. The tales weave into each another to make on big journey. Each ends up with a moral, therefore making it important for childrenAND adults to read (since we seem to thinkg growing up means to forget childhood "lessons").Learn them again with this pleasing book, it will keep you fingering through the pages until there are no more.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one very good book.
Written by ex-Monty Python member Terry Jones, it tells the tale of aViking named Erik, who, with his men, goes on a quest to find the landwhere the sun goes at night. It is involving, exciting, well written, andgreat reading for all ages.I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to lesser known mythologies
This is a good set of stories about Erik's voyages and adventures.Oral traditions of these stories are blatenly obvious, but help younger readers follow the stories. These stories will make great bedtime stories or beginning reader stories. The lessons are timeless and will surely get any child interested in reading more about mythology or the Vikings. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book with chapter tests!! Brilliant!!
Out of all the books about astronomy, and there's about one book per star, I'd have to say this is one of the more thought out and carefully planned. Dr. Terry Jones and Jean Hansen have managed to create a learning environment whereby the reader goes from utterly confused to utterly comfortable with studying the stars. I first found this book in the library and decided that two weeks was not going to be long enough to thoroughly absorb and enjoy the material. I went to Amazon.com and bought the book. The authors are both leaders in their own specialized fields and highly respected for their individual contributions. Even though the books contents increase in complexity, the material is presented in a way that people at all levels of experience can understand the subject. I've gotten tired of seeing all the "for dummies" books. We may get confused, but we are not dummies. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Memorable, Even After 30 Years
I haven't seen a copy of this book in over 30 years, I'm sure.Still, the theme song for the character "Depravo, The Rat" in the Aladdin play still sticks in my mind.Pretty remarkable, considering I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY HEARD THE SONG!So powerful are the lyrics to this nonexistent tune, that they actually suggest their own notes in your head, and they stay there for three decades or longer.

I won't quote the lyrics for copyright reasons, other than to mention that Depravo hasn't changed his underpants in a very, very long time.

There were other things in the book that should be mentioned, but I don't remember any of them, except for the center spread featuring a dragon creature with very sharp talons scratching itself in an inadvisable fashion.

4-0 out of 5 stars Education with an Angle

The typical encyclopaedia is written without an authorial voice or angle. For example, you can read dozens of entries by the same contributor in Britannica, without discovering anything about his secret lover in Bolton or what he had for breakfast that morning. For followers of FR Leavis, this may be fine. But for many of us, this is not enough, and the eminent Dr Fegg's book fills a big gap in the market.

Dr Fegg's aim was not only to cover his expenses while on the run, but also to educate pre-adolescent children in the essentials of life, as well as proving that he had almost nothing to do with the Bournemouth Axe Murders.

Some people got the wrong idea. In its original 1974 version, it was called THE NASTY BOOK FOR BOYS AND GIRLS. But after many complaints about it being an inappropriate birthday present, and several inquests, and only two Old Bailey trials, the title was changed to the present name.

In the 31 years since its publication, I have tried to live my life according to Feggist principles, barely washing from week to week, and gradually whittling away the stock of relatives. The mandatory life sentences have been a bit of bummer, but you can't have everything. I wish I'd been able to put into practice Dr Fegg's advice about crossing the Andes by frog.

It was, of course, Dr Fegg who ended all chances of a Rutles reunion, and since the disappearance of Ron Nasty, Dr Fegg has had to lie very low indeed. Some say he is in South America. Others say the Himalayas. His only link now to the outside world is Mike Palin, who was only half-responsible for the Skegness Impaling. It is alleged that Mike goes to see him every now and then, under the guise of a new series for the BBC, in order to channel some of the proceeds from the enormously successful (in an in-between-Holy-Grail-and-Tomkinson sort of way) encyclopaedia.

I somehow doubt it. But I enjoyed this book tremendously.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest books ever
I got this book in like fifth grade, I don't remember, but I still have my original "Dr. Fegg's Nasty Book Of Knowledge" with tape on the binding because I wore it out.I am holding it now.I remember distinctly when and where I bought it, a now-defunct newsstand in my home town.I remember because I laughed so hard while walking back to my house after I bought it that my stomach hurt and I was crying.

From the Deliferate Mistale to the Creeping Manuria, a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why No Booker Prize for Dr. Fegg?
While many people claim to know Dr. Fegg personally, I write with complete probity when I state Dr. Fegg is, indeed, a close personal friend of mine.We first became acquainted ten years ago when Dr. Fegg sacked his then-literary agent Ms. Esther Scallop.Amazed by my vast knowledge of the publishing industry, as well as my knowledge as to the whereabouts of Ronald Biggs, Dr. Fegg hired me to promote his work.In this particular tome (don't you just love the word 'tome?'), my favourite bits are "Crossing the Andes By Frog," and the frightfully clever pantomine entitled, "Aladdin and his Terrible Problem."It is astounding that Dr. Fegg has thus far escaped nomination for the Booker Prize. He has more talent in the tip of his pinkie than V.S. Naipul has within his entire being. Please buy this book.Royalty money comes in handy. If you can't buy it, hunt down someone who owns it and steal it from them.Chances are they will not give it up without a fight so it is recommended that you bring a pair of brass knuckles or a can of mace.Good luck! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I DON'T LIKE SPAM!!!
If you're a Python fan (like me) you want this book (in fact, you want both volumes).I own the entire series on DVD and the books are a great complement to the DVDs.So, if you want to read along or maybe even memorize the whole "Johann Gambol-puddy...." sequence, pick up your copy today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for Monty Python fans
This is the second volume of the set. Yes, all the words and cues are there. If you like Python, you need this!

5-0 out of 5 stars great for those who know the series
This was a lot of fun for getting down into the intricacies of some of the sketches. You catch things that make you laugh at the memory of watching them.

4-0 out of 5 stars And now for something completely different
I've seen "Monty Python's Flying Circus" so many times that I can recite long stretches of it. But those guys are always using weird accents and manic deliveries ("My neeples explode with delight!"), and sometimes they're hard to understad.

Fortunately for those times, Python fans have "The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus: All the Words," a series from the second half of the classic comedy skit show. These are only trascripts (a bit lacking in details), but still enormous fun and full of delightfully quotable lines ("And now my lords, my ladies... your LUPINS!").

It opes with the weird "Conquistador Coffee" sketch, in which a boss berates his employee for changing the brand's name to Conquistador Instant Leprosy. ("The tingling fresh coffee that brings you exciting new cholera, mange, dropsy, the clap, hard pad, and athlete's foot." "It was a soft sell, sir.")

And then it contains plenty of others: the cheese shop with no cheese, films with giant teeth, spam spam spam, cannibal undertakers, Njorl's it's-not-that-terrible saga, the BBC's financial troubles, the Money Programme, the pantomime horse, hairdressers climbing Everest, the war against pornography, Gumbys, Dennis Moore, kamikaze highlanders, and the golden age of ballooning ("I am so excited I can hardly wash!").

The dialogue to each one is carefully outlined, with each character identified as being played by one of the guys (like "Interviewer (JOHN)"), although we usually don't get to hear much about Terry Gilliam's mad animations. Most of these episodes are one long continuing sketch that spills from one scenario to the next, but occasionally we'll have different ones patched together.

These guys had a rare, crazy talent -- these sketches are crammed with glorious dialogue ("Drop your panties, Sir William. I cannot wait till lunchtime") and bizarre insults ("you cloth-eared heap of anteater's catarrh"). Not much description of the action in places, although in a few we get plenty of detail when it's called for (such as the weirdness convention).

The problem is that this should only be read after you've seen the series. If you don't, it all seems like a befuddling string of of stream-of-consciousness comedy numbers, full of in-jokes and surreal twists. You have a better chance of finding Ilchester in a cheese shop than understanding this without seeing the skits first.

In case you couldn't understand what Eric Idle was bibbling in one episode, or John Cleese was screaming in another, "The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus: All the Words Volume 2" will tell you what is going on. No time to lose!

Product Description
Jones finds that the experiences and socioeconomic progress of immigrants are largely dependent on their contexts of reception. She bases her findings on her study of Jamaican immigrants in Miami-Fort Lauderdale (South Florida) and Toronto (Canada). Of particular relevance are the racial and ethnic compositions of the two areas, their labor markets, and the immigration policies of the two countries. She compares the socioeconomic status of Jamaican immigrants in these two areas, using education, occupation, and income as the main indicators. Jamaicans in South Florida fare better in all three indicators than they do in Toronto. A primary reason for this is the presence of a large native-born blacks population in the U.S., creating a network for the Jamaicans. ... Read more

Product Description
Terry Jones, the author of The Elder Within: Source of Mature Masculinity, Bookpartners, 2001, Wilsonville, Oregon, shares his passion, the search for the elder within. This is a search both in the world and inside the soul. Jones encourages and celebrates the expression of eldership: an approach to the second-half-of-life that is apparent in expressions like active grand parenting, mentoring and stewardship. The man who embraces elder qualities makes himself available to the young, to his family and the community. He has confidence in the fruits of his long life experience, and wants to seed the future for the sake of the young. Jones imagines men as they enter the retirement years taking on roles such as mentor, mediator and a source of blessing. North American men, however, don't have models for how to utilize the expanded life span we have today.

We lose ourselves in work for most of our adult lives. Like fathers before us, we have been emotionally distant from our children. We have not developed skills in nurturing our spirit. The elder within is a source of a spiritual and balanced expression of masculinity. The Elder Within shows the relationship between the acceptance of responsibility for stewardship both of people and the earth and the recovery of men from the damage done to their souls in recent history. In the 18th century men became detached from family and community as they moved from farm to factory. Competing for jobs and profit, men forgot the joy of collaboration. In order to survive men learned about asserting power in the workplace. They then returned home and allowed their power to darken the nature of fatherhood and grand-fatherhood. Today we have come to decry abuse by men who beat their wives, perpetuate violence and discriminate against people. These are not mature men. In The Elder Within we celebrate mature men who express mature masculinity.

The focus of the book is men, but women will also enjoy the hopeful potential of mature masculinity. Jones believes men are looking for a next step in the personal growth and healing many of them began in the men's movement. The Elder Within offers elder, as an alternative to elderly: that stereotype of older people that frightens the young about aging. Eldership, the expression of elder qualities, is a second half of life adventure in modeling mature masculinity. Elder expression fosters consensus rather than conflict. The man or woman who expresses elder energy uses tools of wisdom like meditation, contemplation and active listening. The elder expresses confidence in their long life experience and wants to seed the future by being accessible to and holding the dream for the young. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Elders Revered, Old Methods in Modern Times
Terry Jones provides a well-built model of the Male as we all should like to be as we grow older.Dignified, and Strong (if not of body) then strong of spirit and mind.Guided by Heart, and moved by Souls. Both your own soul, and those you meet, love, and care for.Even the ones you weren't expecting to care for, but were thrust upon you.Such is the role of "Elder".An individualManis representative of that which his heart bends him to over the time of his entire "Life" on this Earth. It's ultimate culmination is the "He" which presents at Old Age.At the "End" as it were.And-- the Grace with which he faces his End.Terry Jones re-addresses those years that have been pushed off into a netherworld of semi-existence in this society. We don't LIKE to look at those years. And that, is not NATURAL---.And the Beginning of this stage is what many feel is the beginning of the end.Not So.It is the culmination and the sharing of, potentially-- The Best, that LIFE has to offer. You only have to Love, and Share. And (hopefully) USE, the God Given strength that you have, as a ---MAN--- to care for those you Love, and those who come to you in need. That, is the Grace and Pride presented here in this book.Older societies had it, and We, America, would be very intelligent indeed to re-incorporate such a belief in our societal evolution. It is a waste of life's most precious resources, a Soul, a Heart, and the Mind which guides them, to NOT utilize people who have learned the MOST, of ANY of us all.Our Elders.Which we ALL will be ONE DAY.Should we all hope to be at the end of OUR days with full dignity and grace.Respected and Revered, with Dignity.A resource that even our youngest can delight in.And our most strident and DRIVEN middle-aged ones, occasionally, IF smart --Listen To.

5-0 out of 5 stars Celebrate the harvest and the return of the elders
Jones, in very simple English, tells us what happened, where we're at, and where we need to go.I couldn't put the book down. There is so much wisdom in less than two hundred pages.

I spoke to two men who seldom finish a book, and both said they only read a third of the book, but what they did read was good.I told them that all they read was how we got off track. The how-to, the action to take, the gold, is in the last third of the book, just like it is in the last third of life.

Jones dispels the belief that our final years should be either of self-indulgence in our motor homes and on the Florida beaches, or of sitting around wondering why we can't be young. He provides all sorts of ways to be in truly enjoyable service, and suggests that our indulgence can come in the form of sharing our stories and watching as our mentorship makes a difference in the earth, our community, or in the life of a mentee.

Since the majority of Americans are going to be in the over-fifty range soon, the book could not be more timely. This book will change your way of looking at either what you've been missing (if you are over 50) or what you have to look forward to (if you are under fifty). At 54 and recently laid off from my sales career, The Elder Within has shown me the path for the rest of my life.It will be my handbook from here on out.

I'm off to see the rabbi in South Bend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for older males
Terry has written a landmark book for men who are entering the last phase of their life.It is an excellent handbook for tapping into the Elder within you, practical exercises and suggestions for being an effective Elder.

Highly recommended !...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Elder Within
In a society where father-hunger is of epidemic proportions and where retirement is commonly viewed as self-indulgent withdrawal, Terry Jones' vision of eldership is enormously important. Drawing on the rich history of eldership in other ages and cultures, Jones calls men to an egalitarian, non-patriarchal "mature masculinity" which is life-giving not only to men but also to women, children and the planet. I hope this book will be widely read and its message given embodiment.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Elder Within
The Elder Within provides insights and tools for men to connect with younger generations and equally important, to pass on a living legacy. This book continues to give me much to think about, as it challenges men to act in making a positive difference with present and future generations.

I bought this book to have an interesting coffee table book for a bit of light reading and while I thought the content was funny and kinda cute, there was simply not enough of it. It does make for an interesting conversation piece however.

5-0 out of 5 stars great and strange english humour
I have bought this book as a gift for friends ever since I owned my first copy.It is funny, beautifully illlustrated and guarenteed to appeal to all artistic types with an affiliation for Monty Python, Black Adder and all things English and comedic! Not for children, even though they love the picture. It stands alone although is really best enjoyed along with the other Lady Coddington fairy books.
I am currently buying a copy for my graphic deisgner and his illustrator wife.I have no doubt he will add it to his collection of published weirdness!

5-0 out of 5 stars Scotch-guard your wardrobe and prepare to be amused....
...because Strange Stains and Mysterious Smells is, aside from nicely done art (by Brian Froud) and brilliant satire (by Terry Jones), a fairly good glimpse into the sort of creatures that are around even if you don't want them to be, even if you aren't the sort to have pixies and goblins about because you don't believe in them or believe in them so much it creeps the little creatures out.Check under your VCR or underneath the layer of papers covering a desk to see what I mean, as you've probably got Doggitus Mucilagus sticking some loose change to the wood.
Extremely funny and far from fiction, get it for yourself and as a gift for your favourite neat-freak.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rather inventive
Hilarious and all-together head-scratching, as you find yourself realizing they're talking about something you've been wondering about all along. You may have thought you were the only one undergoing the cruel and unusual punishment of these noxious fumes and stains, but here you find you are not alone...If you're going to read this aloud as a bed-time book or as a book of quotations, you are required by law to read it aloud with an English accent. If you cannot speak with an English accent or if it is terrible beyond measure, please read silently.Don't even mouth the words as you read.If by chance, you meet someone who is talking about smells and stains in a bad English accent, smack him.If he's bigger than you, you may let him off with a warning...or politely kick him and run, because big guys take longer to build up the inertia to accelerate than little guys.If he doesn't catch you and is breathing heavily, then run up to him and smack him. That should get the point across. ... Product Description
Wings Across the Pacific tells the epic struggle of the generation of pilots who made the dream of crossing the Pacific, a reality. The feats of Lindbergh and others who crossed the Atlantic have been more celebrated. But the Pacific was to flying what Everest was to mountain climbing: the biggest, most implacable, most irresistible challenge on earth. To fly the Pacific meant aiming for tiny islands amid seventy million square miles of ocean, and the slightest mechanical failure - or error of judgment - could mean a watery grave. Amelia Earhart is only one of many who vanished into the Pacific without a trace. ... Read more

Product Description
In 1995 Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book was released to an unsuspecting public. Called "an unstoppable phenomenon" by its publisher, it became an immediate international best-seller. Now 2005 can be named the Year of Lady Cottington with the 10th anniversary of the publication that first exposed the world to the science of fairy exploration.

This volume records in authentic facsimile the latest incarnation of this notorious book along with eight additional pages and enhanced artwork throughout, virtually overflowing with freshly flattened fairies. Former Monty Python member Terry Jones and artist Brian Froud provide a new introduction to place the book in its proper perspective, offering insight into the book's often maligned historic relevance. As a bonus, included is an incriminating DVD showing rare film footage of the elderly Lady Cottington in her garden demonstrating her fairy-squashing technique, as well as a photo gallery, desktop wallpaper, and screensavers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and enchanting!
This book is wonderful! It is for the true collector of fairy.... I am a true fan and have now purchased more of the series! LOVE IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Believe In Fairies...Do You??
Have you ever just wanted to escape? An easy read? Something to make you laugh and believe in all things magical again? Well, here it is, in your hands, Angelica Cottington's diary. And if you didn't believe in fairies before, you'll have to now. Because you see, as young as Angelica is, she knows you need proof and the proof is in the pudding so to speak...so "SPLAT!" Every fairy that she sees she just squishes between these pages for all to see.

This book is hillarious and I fell in love with it long ago. You will too, you'll see. It's not only a wonderful story about a young girl who believes and sees fairies and no one believes her, but it is a beautiful work of art as well. Wonderful job as always.

I recommend this book to everyone young and old. Especially the ones that see fairies..."wink"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastical & Bewitching!
If you've a problem with nudity...then don't buy this book!! I think it's absolutely fabulous and it has a special place on my bookshelf! Whimsical, fanciful, exquisite watercolors, that start out 'tame' enough and get more 'expressive' as the girls grow older. As a lover of art, this book is worth every penny and I loved every piece!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book
This is hilarious, and kids love it. However, if they're sensitive about fairies, you might want to wait until they are at least 6 or 7 to read it to them. Good book to read to kids as some words are a bit difficult.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightfully Wicked!
I bought this as a holiday present for myself.I had not seen the interior, however being familiar with Froud's drawings and Jones' wit, I was completely prepared for the wickedness within. For anyone thinking this is a sweet children's book, read the name of the book again. This is a book of PRESSED FAIRIES. As in PRESSED.If you are expecting Tinkerbelle with her perfect hair, you have been overly indoctrinated by Disney.

This book tells the store of Angelica and her lifelong association with the faires of England and Italy. They are a metaphor for her growing sexuality and the guilt associated with it in the late 1800s-early 1900s society.

Great fun! ... Read more

Product Description

Arguably the greatest collaboration in the whole history of comedy!

Bestselling author Douglas Adams wrote the storyline based on his CD-ROM game of the same name (as this novel, not as him, obviously).

Terry Jones of Monty Python wrote the book. In the nude! Parents be warned! Most of the words in this book were written by a naked man!

So. You want to argue with that? All right, we give in.

Starship Titanic is the greatest, most fabulous, most technologically advanced interstellar cruise line ever built. It is like a cross between the Queen Mary, the Chrysler Building, Tutankhamen's tomb, and Venice. Furthermore, it cannot possibly go wrong. . . .

Sadly, however, seconds after its launch it undergoes SMEF, or Spontaneous Massive Existence Failure. And disappears.

Except, everything's got to be somewhere.

Coming home that night, on a little known planet called Earth, Dan and Lucy Gibson find something very large and very, very shiny sticking into their house. . .

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best, but not the worst
The classic Douglas Adam didn't always write books. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy actually started as a long-running radio play before the book was written. He also did a few text-based adventure games for Infocom, including the utterly amazing Bureaucracy. When the landmark Myst released, Adams dreamed of doing a similar game, but with conversations (as Myst was eerily silent). The result was Starship Titanic.

While the novelization of said game may be have "Douglas Adams's" on the cover, the apostrophe warns us that it's actually authored by someone else, in this case ex-python Terry Jones.

To his credit, Jones does a great job of keeping Adam's rhythm. The bizarre observations and metaphors remain and in true Adam's fashion, often the most hilarious part is simply the method of writing itself.

The downfall of Adams later books was the plot tried too hard and the humor became too bitter. While Starship avoid
Starship Titanic's issue is largely the blandness of the characters. Little develops about them until the end, and even then they seem more all to "regular". Compared to the bizarre cast of Hitchhiker, they really don't hold a candle. I kept imagining a Zaphod, Ford, Marvin or Dent to walk in and steal the scene, but they never showed up.

While the first two Hitchhiker books are as highly recommended as they come (I find myself quoting them verbatim often), I can only recommend Titanic to Adams fans. It's better than Mostly Harmless, but it's far short of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

The most awesome part of this whole deal is that it connects Adams deeper in British culture. Not only did he write a Dr. Who episode and star in a two-second cameo in a Flying Circus skit, and named the final Pink Floyd album, but a Python wrote the novelization of one of his games. That just makes me geek out.
But seriously, go play Bureaucracy. You'll need a walkthrough, but it's almost his best work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Most Enjoyable!
After reading Eoin Colfer's "sequel" to the Douglas Adams series, my hopes were low. This book however, was lovely.Very much in the spirit of the Adams originals, and a ton of fun.It may not be life-changing, but it's certainly worth your time and $.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll either absolutely love it or hate it.I loved it!
I personally listened to the audio version and while I admit it is a difficult "read" at first due to lots of unfamiliar names, places, titles etc, as well as the story jumping headstrong into an event that is just a side-show of the true story.I found myself quickly pulled in and totally enjoyed it.It has easily become one of my all time favorites.I recommend the audiobook version as Terry Jones did a fantastic job of creating the feel which I suspect Scott Adams intended when writing it.I also recommend the PC software game by the same title, although it was witten for an older version of windows and runs on XP but I don't know about Vista or later.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than people make it out to be
I just got done with this book and it's the first of douglas adams i've read.I actually really enjoyed it ive read it twice now and it is pretty hillarious.TOns of irony ect i give this 5/5 easy.Great sit down and read book.

3-0 out of 5 stars ok...just ok.
its an ok book. a bit "campy" and a bit more slapstick in humour then douglas adams books, lacking in the wit of douglas adams but still amusing. ... Read more
