Product Description
This book describes how the origins of the New Thought movement, the uniquely American spiritual philosophy that developed at the turn of the 20th century, can be found in the oldest philosophical systems of humanity, and how it is closely connected with the revival of Transcendentalism which occurred in America about 1800 to 1825. The text of this new edition has been edited into gender neutral language in recognition of the author's desire to bring the insights of New Thought to all people. Gender neutral language is a subtle but important way to promote equality, and equality is at the core of Atkinson's thinking. It also includes the author's "Working Creed", a summary of both his personal beliefs and the New Thought system in general. This new, gender neutral edition brings Atkinson's insights to a new generation of readers in need of his timeless insights. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful mystery and ghostly help with a very "cold case"!
The first in the Shannon Delaney Paranormal Mystery Series; as one might expect there is time given over to the introduction of the main characters of which there are quite a few. I'll be interested to watch further developments in later books.Solving a mystery that is over 130 years old may seem a daunting task, but interesting, especially when the mystery involves a famous magician, his old mansion and mysterious chest, handsome descendants, and a psychically sensitive heroine.

Working as a team, five main characters try to determine what happened to Eric Blackthorne, the magician of over 130 years ago; did he just disappear or was he really murdered? The story builds throughout the book as the team resurrect clues from varying sources. The excitement of discovery and meaning of each clue is contagious to the reader. Not least of the clues appear to come to Shannon in the night. Is she dreaming them or are they manifestations? Is there a ghost helping her? and are the hilarious appearances in the night truly clues? All these questions come to bear on the case and play their role in the mystery. I loved the author's wily way of incorporating not only clues but humor in the mix!The story flows well, the discoveries of the past weave through the present day smoothly and build the reader's interest. Hints of jealousy and romance appear throughout the story, and it seems to end with a promise of more about to blossom with the continuation of the series, but not without its complications.

I really enjoyed this first book and look forward to the growth of the series. I am definitely hooked on Shannon's dreams! The cast of characters form a unique alliance, too.Once the first characters were established the book took off and took over, leaving me reading almost straight through at one go. Easy to read, strange quirks to throw us off balance, glimpses of life of the rich and of early San Diego, two families tied together in mutual interest in the case, all make for an effortless but exciting journey through a very "cold case"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn'tPut It Down
I loved the charactors, the plot, the vivid descriptions of people and places...by the time I finished the book I wanted MORE.Fantastic author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Cozy Mystery Ghost Story
I wrote a review for this book in its e-book Kindle version, now I have the paperback.

As I said before, this is a good cozy mystery, suitable for all ages from teens to grown-ups. The author does a good job of creating interesting characters that move the plot along. And if you go to the author's web site, she will answer e-mails:

Product Description
"Where Do Priests Come From?" is a great book! It's a beautiful and inspiring story for today's Catholic children. The illustrations express the faith, which the book shares and highlights. I would strongly recommend this book to Catholic families, schools, and formation programs. Fr Jeffrey Kirby, STL,Vicar for Vocations, Diocese of Charleston, SC, author of "Becoming Father Bob"; A book I can give to my own nieces and nephews on the priesthood.I plan to read it to them myself. Rev. W. Shawn McKnight, S.T.D., Executive Director of the Secretariat ofClergy, Consecrated Life, and Vocations, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; A lovely little book explaining a most profound mystery: the priesthood. I pray this book finds its way into the hands of many young boys so that they can be inspired to ponder the question: Is God calling me to be a priest?" 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
Bezalel Books has published a charming book written by Elizabeth Ficocelli entitled Where Do Priests Come From?

Great for a family library, perfect for your parish or Catholic school library, this book presents in a positive, gentle way, that priests are normal people with a special job.Priests wear dark clothes with a white collar, but priests have pajamas, too.Priests help people encounter Jesus in many important ways (sacraments) but priests also might like to fish or golf!

The book would be a great way to help the reader "break the ice" when talking to a priest.Getting to know more about one's priest will help develop a friendship between the priest and his young (or not so young) parishioners.

I truly wish I had this book when my sons were younger, so my copy will make the rounds at my local Catholic school. Then, it'll be going to our diocesan vocations director.

Where Do Priests Come From? is Elizabeth Ficocelli's 11th book and is endorsed by Fr. Donald Calloway, author of No Turning Back: A Witness to Mercy and by Rev. W. Shawn McKnight, Executive Director of the Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life, and Vocations, USCCB.

I am thrilled to see that they have planned more books for this series, Where do Sisters Come From? and Where Do Deacons Come From?.What a wonderful tool for parents and teachers to introduce the Catholic faith to young learners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rich, Human, & Catechetically-Sound
"A priest is a man who makes Jesus real to others through word, example, and the sacraments. He shows us what Jesus is like. . ."Does that description remind you of anyone?I hope so!It reminded me of Monsignor John Leykam, godfather to my youngest; and it was sure fun bringing him up as the kids and I read this delightful little book.

Elizabeth Ficocelli's words and Shannon Wirrenga's illustrations go together like hand in glove to give children a rich, human, catechetically-sound introduction to the lives of our priests. So where do priests come from?"They were once young boys just like you. . . [They] played baseball. . .climbed trees. . .dreamed of being an astronaut."This book maintains the same down-to-earth, relatable feel as it explores "the call," priestly formation, life in community, and the various roles in which priests serve.

Something I especially liked was the reminder that priests are journeying toward heaven too."He goes to Confession to be strengthened, just like his people."We hear how priests need to pray, take breaks, and spend time with friends - just like you, me, and Jesus. In this very subtle way Ficocelli communicates Catholicism's incarnational worldview - that the God of the universe loves us so tenderly that he comes down from his heaven to join us in the most humdrum of activities; that in the sacraments humble things like water, bread, wine, and even words, become conduits of Divine Life.

I also take my hat off at the way Ficocelli was able to weave fifteen kid-friendly definitions into thirteen pages! Now besides being a dad, I'm an educator; and that feat earns her an "A" in my grade book. There's even a glossary!

I was excited to hear that is only the first in a series from Bezalel Books, with "Where Do Sisters Come From?" set to arrive before year's end, and "Where Do Deacons Come From?" soon to follow. It's such a neat way to open our children's hearts to God's call. The final line of the book is priceless, "Maybe the next young man God calls will be you!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Where Do Priests Come From
As a child I always thought Priests were just *there*.Maybe they were always "good" or that they were almost not even human. This book does a fabulous job educating the readers (both young and old!) on the fact that Priests are just regular people like you and me.They come from a variety of backgrounds, are definately educated, and might even hold other jobs (like being an Army Chaplain) in addition to being Priests. This book also explains that some priests work for the diocese, some are of a different order like Franciscans, Jesuits, and Dominicans. The book also explains how even though a Priest doesn't marry, he still has a family and a very full life (he can even go fishing or on vacation!).As a mother of 9 I definately appreciate having books like this to help educate my children about their Faith.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Vocation Tool!
From a child's perspective, priests can sometimes seem very mysterious. After all, they dress differently and live differently and do different things than all of the other people in their lives. It can be hard to imagine that they were once little boys. Elizabeth Ficocelli has written a charming, informative book "Where do Priests Come From" which attempts to answer many of the questions children might have about priests and the lives they lead.

Ficocelli talks about how priests are called by God to the priesthood, how they may have dreamed of being an astronaut or a doctor or a fire-fighter, but one day they heard a quiet voice in the hearts inviting them to become a priest and they said "Yes." She discusses the discernment process and the time in seminary. She mentions the different types of priests and the vows they take. She mentions the long list of ways that they minister to other people, but also emphasizes that they are still people who also have a need to relax and enjoy hobbies. They also sometimes make mistakes and need to go to confession (this was the fact that my own two sons were most surprised by!)

This book is intended for young boys to encourage them to think about becoming a priest. As such, it is a great vocation tool. Ficocelli has done a great job with this book. One can only hope that there will be a companion volume for girls: "Where Do Sisters Come From?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Resource for young readers/families
In my work as Vocation Director, I frequently have questions about resources for young families to help introduce the idea of a priestly vocation among their sons.I finally have that resource in this little book.AS the previous reviewer notes, it is written in a very charming style, walking with a priest through his time in formation and showing the balance in that he is still a real person, called to do something great.Elizabeth answers the title question with simple explanations, when taken with the illustrations, tell the story of the discernment of a vocation in a gentle, accessible way.

Simply, a great resources for parents to read through with their childrem, both boys and girls, to help understand the great gift that is the priesthood in the Catholic Church, as well as to help introduce the idea that God has called each one of them to greatness as well. ... Read more

Product Description
Gavin turned to me and queried, "This isn't the first time you've seen ghosts, is it?" ...And so begins Shannon Delaney's assignment to write publicity for the Spotted Coyote. As the right spot for Grub, Spirits and Conjuring, it's an entertainment venue that's a re-invention of an Old-West Saloon in California's historic mountain town of Julian. The Spotted Coyote is more than what Shannon bargained for when she discovers the century-old murder of little Sarah Morghan. Sarah's ghost will not be denied, leaving Shannon no choice but to pursue haunting clues that pair jumping rope rhymes with rare books, treasure lore with a ghostly angel and an uncanny connection to the Scottish paranormal author, Robert Louis Stevenson. Assisting Shannon is Alex Blackthorne and Shannon's very own spectral guide; phantom magician from the 1800s, Eric Blackthorne. ... Read more
