pretty good mystery
It's a little on the dated side but I found it hard to put down, with interesting character portrayals -- they were all very plausable except maybe the background of the protaganist, good writing and I wasn't able to guess who did it.

One especially well done literary approach was the way the author dropped briefly into the mind of a cat.It was only a small portion of the book but remarkably well done.

The only thing that kept it from being a 5 was that some of the coincidences in the plot seemed a bit unlikley. ... Read more

Really exciting police procedural
Police procedurals are not my favorite kind of mysteries, but I liked this one a lot. Lieutenant Mendoza and his colleagues in the Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Dept. are faced with victims who have been strangled, probably with a jump rope, where the murderer has left a card saying The Vengeance is Just. There seems to be no connection among the victims, but the police keep looking. They also have several unrelated murders to solve. I stayed up too late last night finishing this! ... Read more

Enchanting tales
This is an enchanting book full of tales for children 5 and up. I enjoyed Charles' the author of these tales, good imagination. The stories were told to be enjoyed by his children and others, when Charles was much younger. Not too long ago his children put them together to honor the time he spent with them. Now they have become a gift for him to be immortalized in the minds of those who take the time to share them. It is great gesture by his children, and a great plus for the rest of us who will also be able to enjoy them. I had my little ones this weekend and read some of the stories to them. They loved them and even wanted more. The beautiful drawings and colorful pages are a wonderful addition to Charles imagination.Over all, this is a great book to keep your youngsters entertained for a long while. It is nicely done and it will be cherish by many. I showed it to mi little ones and they wanted to read it at once. They love the drawings in it too. This is a good tool to be share with the whole family.

a timeless keepsake
The Jonathan Stories is a keepsake for generations and is full of timeless stories that all ages can enjoy.As a mother I enjoyed the handcrafted feel of the story telling as well as the perfectly matched illustrations, both of which took me back to the days of "Serendipity" books. My 7-year-old daughter found each story to be engaging and entertaining and we both enjoyed discussing the morals that the stories taught. Loved it!
I bought the book for my one-year and eleven-year old grandchildren--the stories have enough "fantasy" in them for the eleven-year old and the one-year old can grow into them by first enjoying the pictures.The sweet stories in the book teach positive life lessons, in addition to having some of the most beautiful, colorful illustrations--makes me wish I could snap myself into the picture!MAYBE I WILL . . .

how bedtime stories are meant to be told
I love this book. I ended up buying extra copy to give as gifts to all of my friends with kids.The stories are easy to read and something about the voice and tone is really comforting.I like that there are 30 stories and that it is written so that you read one story a night for a whole month. And by the time you have finished all of the stories, you are ready to start over again!the pictures are so imaginative and drawn in a style that matches perfectly with this book.I am a nanny and also sister to young ones so I have had my fair share of Pinkalicious and Clifford the Big Red Dog and this trumps them all.Plus, all of the stories have morals to them, and every one is unique.Who doesn't like stories about rabbits and elves, witches and octopuses???
