Product Description
This text focuses on a formative period in the development of the English economy. Between the making of the Domesday Book and the end of the 13th century, far-reaching changes occured in the scale and organization of economic activity. The volume of trade expanded and involved a greater proportion of both the population and the goods produced. New financial and commercial institutions were created, and more business-like attitudes became prevalent, and the market came increasingly to determine what was produced. In short, economic life was becoming more commercialized. This work examines the course and the consequences of these changes. It considers the impact of commercialization upon different commodities and different producers, and the effect upon that process of traditional relationships between landlords and tenants. It also questions whether people were better off in 1300 than in 1086, and whether or not there was real economic growth over this period. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Panetta. Prouty & CA Attorney General Support Adamson?
Oswald's Closest Friend:The George De Mohrenschildt Story

In the last couple of years under the JFK Assassination Records ReviewBoard Act our government has spent millions of dollars into the research ofthe assassination of our 35th President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. As aformer Federal employee, on several occasions I have offeredall of myresearch under the Whistleblowing Act to the Clintonadministrationwithout receiving replies. President Clinton's formerChief of Staff, LeonPanetta, in the past (1992), had supported thisauthor's research as a formerCongressman for the County of SantaCruz. This author believes that itwas certainly unethical andboardering upon fraud when President GeorgeBush signed into law TheJFK Assassination Records Review Board Actand did not disclose thathe knew George de Mohrenschildt since 1942. Inorder to understandthe conflict of interest George Bush played in the JFKassassinationinvestigation in 1963 and in 1976, one needs to look at hisentirecareer with the CIA and Zapata Oil industry.

TRACKINGTHE JFK ASSASSINATION

Santa Monica College Corsair - November17,1997, by DonnaLynn

As the34th anniversary of John Fitzgerald Kennedy's assassination approaches, Bruce Campbell Adamson, a self-taught genealogist, historian, author and Santa Monica College graduate says that he is close tosolving"the crime of the century." When hisfather died in 1980, Adamson applied for a job at the SantaMonicaPost Office. He says he "wanted to work outdoors" because it seemed to be a "healthy" job with few problems."Ittook me five years to get hired," he says "And I retired in fiveyears."Adamson ended up filing a federal lawsuit against thePost Office in aworker's compensation claim. He was the case in1991 and has used themoney to research the JFK assassination. "I started researching it (JFK) because I was tired of the subject, saidAdamson. When I began my research Oliver Stone's movie, JFK,had justbeen released and I was sick and tired of all of thetheories generated by thetabloid news agencies." Thismotivated him to write and publish The JFKAssassination TimelineChart, and eight volumes (now ten) of Oswald'sClosest Friend; TheGeorge de Mohrenschildt Story. Each bit of information led toanother, and Adamson soon discovered thatsome of his own familymembers were coincidentally associated withpersons connected toGeorge de Mohrenschildt in one way or another. In thepast 14 years,Adamson's research has taken him through the governmentand theCentral Intelligence Agency...In a trail that leads from oil fields to Wall Street to the sales of helicopters used in the Vietnam War, Adamson claims that he exposes evidence that Lee Harvey Oswald did not actalone.Everything that we are today exists today because of thepast, he said "Ifhistorians don't get the story right, thenour lives today are based uponlies."He also link's"alleged lone assassin" Oswald to de Mohrenschildt, an aristocrat who had ties to the rich and famous. Adamson asserts that these elites may have benefited financially from JFK's death. The wealthy"werealso retaliating for their political as well as othermotives," said Adamson."Wealthy individuals having priorknowledge of the plans to kill JFKcould sell short on the New YorkStock Exchange and buy their companyback for half the price afterthe assassination," Adamson aid. On the day oftheassassination, the stock market lost 11 billion in paper." Adamson's main theory focuses on a U.S. oil depletion allowance, which grants oilmen a 27.5 percent tax break when reinvesting in their other corporation. Adamson says that Texas oilmen plotted the assassinationofJFK to gain more power, and that the Warren Commission foundOswaldguilty without a fair trial. He places de Mohrenschildt witha group offriends -- one of whose grandfather's chartered the oildepletion allowancein the 1920s."...De Mohrenschildtdied on March 29, 1977, of a self-inflicted gunshotwound to thehead. Adamson, however, says de Mohrenschildt could havebeenmurdered, since the CIA was on his back about his knowledge of the assassination. Adamson asserts that de Mohrenschildt, prior to his death, told a close friend that a number of oilmen, FBI and CIA agents were behind the JFK assassination."De Mohrenschildt hadcomplained to his friend, CIA Director GeorgeBush in September of1976 about being harassed," Adamson wrote."Shortlythereafter, Bush contacted the FBI Director and it was not long after that de Mohrenschildt would find himself in Parkland Hospital receiving nine shock treatments."Were the shock treatmentsCIA-sponsored, Adamson asks? While Bush wasCIA Director, more than200 Top Secret documents came up missing, including the lettersbetween de Mohrenschildt and Bush, says Adamson.Like Oswald, deMohrenschildt went to his grave insisting that Oswald was"justa patsy," and that Oswald was not the assassin, according to Adamson. "That's a dying declaration," Adamson insists."When someonemakes a statement on their deathbed, they'relikely telling the truth."Is finding the truth about JFK'smurder Bruce Campbell Adamson'sdestiny? Is Adamson possessed by thegenetics of his own distinguishedAmerican heritage, driving him tocorrect an error made in history? Is hedriven by Hustler magazine'sbounty of $1 million to whoever determinesthe murderer? "Circumstantial evidence does not lie," says Adamson. "Andpeopleshould not be afraid to focus and speak of these associationsin our society, which allows free speech, nor should they fearretaliation for alienating therich and famous." "Adamson's fascinating bloodline hasn't gone to his head. He maintains that he's just "a simple guy. I'm nothing special," hesays, but "here I amtrying to solve the 'crime of thecentury,'" for which "there is no statute oflimitationson murder."

3-0 out of 5 stars Good and Basic
This book does what it says, gives you the basics and an introduction to Space Sciences. But if you are trying to learn some of the deeper lessons in this book it comes up short.I read the book in two days. I did not try and figure out most to the Q & A at the end of each chapter.Luckily, the instructor for the class that I bought this book for, worked at NASA for 30 years and has worked may years with its author. The reason I say luckily is because even though this book is an intro book, some of the math equations are pretty tough and not explained well.So if you buy this book and want to figure out some of the problems, I suggest good algebra skills and knowledge. Some basics physics and astronomy would help to.

Product Description
The first book to analyze radio as both a cultural andmaterial production, Communities of the Air explores radio’s powerfulrole in shaping Anglo-American culture and society since the earlytwentieth century. Scholars and radio writers, producers, and criticslook at the many ways radio generates multiple communities over theair—from elite to popular, dominant to resistant, canonical totransgressive. The contributors approach radio not only in its ownright, but also as a set of practices—both technological andsocial—illuminating broader issues such as race relations, genderpolitics, and the construction of regional and national identities.

Drawing on the perspectives of literary and cultural studies, sciencestudies and feminist theory, radio history, and the new field of radiostudies, these essays consider the development of radio as technology:how it was modeled on the telephone, early conflicts betweenfor-profit and public uses of radio, and amateur radio (HAMS), localprogramming, and low-power radio. Some pieces discuss how radio givesvoice to different cultural groups, focusing on the BBC and poetryprogramming in the West Indies, black radio, the history ofalternative radio since the 1970s, and science and contemporary artsprogramming. Others look at radio’s influence on gender (and gender’sinfluence on radio) through examinations of Queen Elizabeth’sbroadcasts, Gracie Allen’s comedy, and programming geared towardwomen. Together the contributors demonstrate how attention to thevariety of ways radio is used and understood reveals the dynamicemergence and transformation of communities within the larger society.

Product Description
One of the most anticipated genre movie releases of the year is My Name Is Bruce, starring the cult hero (or is that anti-hero?) Bruce Campbell. Campbell is abducted from his trailer-park home to fight against Guan Di, a Chinese war deity. Thinking it all a joke, although thinking clearly is not one of his strong suits in this picture, Mr. Campbell discovers that it all is real, much to his shock and dismay. Mayhem ensues. The fully articulated doll is formed from a 3-D scan of Campbell himself. Besides a custom fabric miniature version of his actual Hawaiian shirt, which was loaned to us by Mr. Campbell, proving that he's the kind of partner who would "give you the shirt off his back," an array of movie-specific accessories are included: Two miniature "angel" and "devil" versions of Mr. Campbell that attach to his shoulders using hidden magnets; Shemps Olde Tyme Whiskey; A Bruce collectible toy in melted package; Refreshing Lemon Drink bottle; A miniature Chins book; and A big honkin' gun with price tag still attached. ... This comic gives the story of My Name Is Bryce from the perspective of Chinese ghosts. It is funny but if you don't love the movie, you wont like the book, but would you be looking here if you hated the movie, No. The art isn't the best I've seen in a comic but far from the worst. Product Description
In 1962 author Greglon Lee's father, martial arts expert James Yimm Lee, joined forces with the future superstar Bruce Lee (1940-1973) to form the Jun Fan Gung-fu Institute, now considered the birthplace of Jeet Kune Do. Their relationship was crucial in Lee’s progression from unknown student to celebrated master, shaping Lee's ideology and outlook on the martial arts for years to come. Using extensive interviews with dozens of Bruce's students and contemporaries as well as anecdotes based on rare documents and family history, the authors present an engaging picture of Bruce Lee as an extraordinarily talented young man who was also a warm and caring person. This insider's look at Bruce Lee's formative years also outlines the development of Lee's legendary skills between 1962 and 1965, an era previously unchronicled, ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written Story Of Great Martial Artists
This is a poorly written book about two great martial artists.I've been a martial artist and a Bruce Lee fan for over 30 years and have read many books and magazine articles about the legendary martial artist, and have to say this book has been a great disappointment. The book is slow and boring and I would not recommend it to anyone.Better to read one of Jesse Glover's, Dan Inosanto's, or John R. Little's books on the subject.

1-0 out of 5 stars Truly pathetic
This book is just plain awful.I was expecting to learn more about James Lee (who IMHO is the most underated of all JKD practioners).

Most stories are conjecture and out right lies. The authors should be ashamed of themselves. This book does nothing but tarnish the legend of Bruce Lee.

To add insult to injury, it reads like a 3rd grade book report.

If I could write this review in blood and tears, I would.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta take the good w/ the bad
The first part of this book regarding Bruce Lee's training w/ Gin Foon Mark seems totally bogus ! There is no eveidence Bruce Lee ever met this guy. The book details Lee's father and Bruce himself in NY, even covering in detail their innermost thoughts, and there is no proof of this other than the oral record of this guy who has claimed for years to have taught Bruce Lee. I think actually Lee's fathers last trip to the USA was when Bruce was born in 1940 .

On the other hand the material covering Seattle and early Oakland seems to be on the up and up and very imformative.

3-0 out of 5 stars part 2 needs a real author
this is a book that has been needed for a long time now. the early bruce, and a look back at how he developed. there's great stuff here...too bad it reads like a "junior scholastic" teen book! the authors are poor storytellers. this is bruce lee material we have all been waiting for, james yimm lee, jesse glover, wally jay, etc. the early years! fantastic! some great photos...and some not so great maps, copied from "mapquest"? the book reads like a danielle steel movie-of-the-week potboiler...boring. fantastic material, horrible presentation. like a 5-star meal on a paper plate. bruce and james history both deserve a better treatment...5 star material served as 2 star writing! poor publishing from a company that usually puts out quality books. found quite a few grammatical mistakes...so o.k. get a real writer and a proofreader too! maybe they will make-up for it with volume 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars James Yimm Lee & Bruce: Incredible!
An incredibly enthralling look at the relationship between two of the most influential martial artists of the 20th century. One now a well-known icon (Bruce Jun Fan Lee), the other just coming into his due (James Yimm Lee). For the first time, in this extensive work we can read about the symbiotic relationship between Bruce Lee and James Yimm Lee (not blood related to one another despite the last name). The book is helped immensely through the participation of Greglon Yimm Lee, James Lee's son, who offers insight into the life of his father and family life previously unknown.

Largely forgotten, or formerly summed up in a few brief paragraphs, James Lee wrote and published the first publicly available serious gung fu books in English. James Lee was a consummate martial artist in his own right, having studied at one of the first public Sil Lum (Shao-Lin) schools in San Francisco (under T.Y. Wong), as well as making it a practice to trade techniques and practice with other martial artists throughout the Bay area.Another famed student of James Lee's covered in this book is Al Novak, a pioneer in his own right.

James Lee was one of the first martial arts men to advocate the practical approach through his books, keeping useful information, and rejecting the notion of maintaining"tradition for tradition's sake."As a matter of fact, if you compare any of J.Y. Lee's early self-published books, you can see the progression J.Y. Lee made from blind obedience to tradition, to creating his own practical tradition.Of course, most of us don't have access to these books--which is what makes this volume, "The Dragon and the Tiger", a treasure.

There are photos and explanations of James Lee's early books, training devices, and classes--and the full story of how Bruce Lee came to adopt many of James Lee's theories and methods. It isn't difficult to see how James Lee's concepts became popularized by Bruce Lee, who adapted many of James Lee's methods to his own needs (as James Lee had intended).Bruce Lee of course, later became legendary for his own practical approach, which was later systematized in his Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do, influencing contemporary martial arts thought in the U.S. and the World.

This is a book about friendship.About a journey into study and research and human limits that two men undertook together. It provides new information not contained in any other work which makes for an enjoyable read and a hard-to-set-down book. Finally, a book that gives credit where it is due--to James Yimm Lee: teacher, student, and argueably perhaps the greatest influence upon Bruce Lee.You needn't be a Bruce Lee fan to enjoy this book, anyone with an interest in American martial arts history, the Chinese community in America, or American history in general should find this fascinating. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars No murders needed to make a book thrilling
Yes, at 58 I'm well over 13. Even more so(78)is my dear friend to whom I shall send this copy. At times we find the modern crime novels, though in many cases well written, just too stuffed with violence, murder, and every conceivable kind of misery. Than we take our refuge with Ken Holt and his friends, the Allen clan. Vile crooks are trying hard to bump them off in every book, but we can enjoy the reading without fear, knowing that they'll fail. The crooks, that is. The Vanishing Magician was, as a child and later, made a scapegoat for the crimes of others and this very well written novel deals with consequences of this. All Ken Holt books are good, but the psychological touch in this one makes it even more interesting for us grown-ups in quest of quality entertainment. ... Read more

Product Description
"In many previous essays, I have departed from and arrived at two presuppositions that seem contradictory. The first: it is not true that history never repeats itself; it always repeats itself. The second precept, at least four hundred years old: history progresses. That is to say, humanity learns from past experience and in the process overcomes itself. Both human realities have always battled each other. If the human race instead of accepting the artificial fatalism of Clash of Civilizations it were to recognize the urgency of a Dialogue of Cultures, this battle would not sow the fields with corpses and nations with hate. The process of history, from its economic roots, is determined by and cannot be contradictory to the interests of humanity. If we accompany it with the new awareness demanded by posterity, we will not only advance a perhaps inevitable process; above all, we will avoid more pain and the spilling of blood and death that has tinged the world hate-red in this greatest crisis of history." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not immediately obvious.
Yes, this is another out-of-date book which has attracted my attention but, if I can come across a copy for very little money and be impressed by the content, layout, information and photographs, then so can anyone else. I often find books which are well out of print are either very cheap or ridiculously expensive. Thankfully, this one appears to fall into the former category. Add to that the simple fact that the subject matter (i.e. Birds!) has remained largely unchanged since publication and the product represents excellent value for money.

This is a large "coffee table" book which really ought to find a place in the home or on the bookshelf of anyone with an interest in the subject. In order to find a specific bird, the reader must consult the index which occupies the final 128 of the book's 352 pages. All birds are listed alphabetically under common and Latin names with the relevant information specific to each bird appearing under the Latin name only. For me, the presence of common names was not immediately obvious - but it was Monday morning and clearly going to be a slow week!

With a remarkably small "Contents" right at the beginning, this book is so easy to use it needs no explanation. Beginning with some very technical data - Faunal Regions, Origins of Species, Anatomy and Classification which occupy only 25 pages, the book then deals with "Abbreviations and Notes" and Acknowledgements before getting down to detail and hard facts. There now follows 192 pages of glossy colour photographs covering over 1,000 different species of bird. The standard of photography is very good throughout and often quite excellent.

People know what to expect from a Dictionary - i.e. a list of words in alphabetical order with an explanation of each word. One of my pet hates is books which profess to be either a Dictionary or Encyclopaedia when they are no such thing. This book is described as a Dictionary in the title and is exactly that. As such it will make bird identification much easier for the majority of those with an interest in the subject.

Altogether an invaluable tool.
