4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoy !!!
Slow begining, but stay with Jam and Wild Dalton. Once they take off across the country it really starts to rock n roll. Over the top imagination of author creates hilarious cross country adventures for the duo. Wild Dalton can't decide if he wants to be a rock star. Jam helps him decide by helping him run away. Jam's ideas for hiding, disguising, and satisfying Wild Dalton are as varied as the locations in which they hide. Some of the scenes equal a Pink Panther rating--wild, wild, wild. What an imagination.

JAM ARCHER AND WILD DALTON - Anne Snyder Rudeen

This nostalgic look at the rock `n roll scene of the 70's is a salute to the free spirit in all of us.The scene is quickly set in the first few pages as we become acquainted with our quirky but imaginative heroine who dabbles in philosophy, Jam Archer.Jam never reveals her true age, but she has fast-pedaled past thirty and never missed a beat on the way.Along the way she has discovered a handsome young man named Danny Dalton who can compose, sing and play guitar.Ever the schemer, Jam sees a musical future ahead and becomes his manager as she narrates the novel.

The cast of characters is reminiscent of some group from Star Wars that has been transported back in time.Particularly Shandy, Mike and Sam `Cat' who make up the band.Daughter Sarah is a slip of mama and dance producer Teddy Speller is fast on her trailThere are other assorted nuts who meld into the scheme of this rollicking, bed busting look at the rock `n roll scene as it flashes across the continent.

Danny "Wild" Dalton suffers some depression and self-doubt which leads Jam to seize the moment since she has always wanted Danny. She connives to keep Danny for herself and away from his public by rushing hither and yon across America in various stages of disguise and means of transportation. There is a substantial amount of dillying and dallying as well as all out sex as they make this grand tour.To heighten the adventure, she has Wild play for various groups in unsuspecting places.Secretly, Jam lets the world know where they have been and where they have played while secretly endorsing a $200,000 reward for anyone who can catch Wild.

As in all good novels, the hero and heroine are caught in the end but love triumphs over all.

This whole narrative by Anne Rudeen is a must-read if you like novels, and particularly the weariness and excitement of bands on the move.Jam and Danny should be heard from again as they move into the disco/country age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Female Villains and Heroes Within
A sensational collection of short stories with great female characters by leading authors including Connelly, Deaver, McBain, Lippmann, Leonard, Perry.Like all compilation collections by different authors you have superb masterpieces along with stories which aren't that great. There are enough masterpieces within though to make Dangerous Women a must read!

The first story Improvisation by Ed McBain starts of with the response by a beautiful blonde (Jessica) to a guy's (Will) bar pickup line of "What do we do for a little excitement tonight?""Why don't we kill somebody?" Will thinks she's flirting and as she pints out an unattractive loner woman to be the victim he suggests ways how they do this then still thinking its all a game asks the victim to join them.

Improvisation is not the only masterpiece within.Laura Lippman's Dear Penthouse Forum (A First Draft) has a stranded passenger who needs to sleep overnight in the terminal being offered money for a hotel by an older good samaritan lady which his conscience just won't let him take. She then offers him to stay in her guestroom at her nearby house he decides he can do this since he'll give the lonely woman certain favours in return.

Rendevous by Nelson De Mille has a Vietnam veteran recounts the tale of a beautiful sniper who targets the squad he led on patrol as lieutenant and they feared more than any male counterpart.

Ian Rainkin's Soft Spot has a pathetic prison censor named Denis who reads all incoming and outgoing mail.Like all the guards he would like a piece of the beautiful Selina who is the wife or jailed mobster Blaine.Becoming obsessed with her he learns she is having an affair and is selling Blaine's house obviously about to do a runner. He may well be able to blackmail her for his pleasure to keep certain things from her husband.

Born Bad by Jeffry Deaver has a daughter who never got along with her parents who chose never to raise a hand to discipline her.As she got older they became more and more disappointed in her rebellious lifestyle. Now she is grown up, the mother is a widow and has tracked down her daughter. The daughter has accepted to see her but the mother does not know if she has accepted because she has turned her life around or if the rage has developed further and she will want to kill her.

If you enjoyed this collection and are looking for more sensational books with great female characters also check out either the Jessica Jones or Anna Fehrbach series by Christopher Nicole.Gerald Hammond has also written his fair share of great female leads. Kate White's Bailey Wiggins character is another series worth checking out as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars HOT * HOT * HOT
Otto Penzler has knows how to build to a climax, that's for sure, and of all the hot noir anthologies he's put together, this could be the best.Kudos for stating the obvious (aren't all women dangerous?).

Two of the stories in this anthology (BORN BAD & HIS LORD AND MASTER) are up for Edgar Awards in 2006, and that's just the tip of the...iceberg, so to speak.Laura Lippman's story might be my personal fave, but then again I AM a girl and many men would not be up to this one - be forewarned, boys.Nelson DeMille's story is fabulous. So is Elmore Leonard's.Come to think of it, I didn't meet a story in this book that I did not like.

The writing is fabulous and groundbreaking from start to finish. The entire book is brimming with great writing and sometimes disturbingly surprising sensual undertones.

Incredible here-and-now entertainment of the though-provoking kind.Highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overall?Trite and derivative
With a few exceptions, I am disappointed in this collection of shorts.Great concept but what a bunch of lousy submissions apart from Jeffery Deaver's 'Born Bad'.The book is worth it just for this story.

Did these, for the most part well known and highly regarded writers, do a quickie favor for the editor? It would appear so.The average reader will be able to guess at the ending about a paragraph into the story.Second, the "dangerous women" seem to be stuck on sadism against men originating in lack of or too much of - you got it, sex.And finally, apart from one or two selections, the shorts derive their plot line from mainly noirish elements...cops, tough guys...bleak urban landscapes, and yes...dangerous femmes fatales...give me a break.

You want dangerous women?See Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity or read the novel by James Cain.

5-0 out of 5 stars An audiobook anthology of original short stories featuring femme fatales and deadly anti-heroines
Dangerous Women is an audiobook anthology of original short stories featuring femme fatales and deadly anti-heroines. Some written in the spirit of ancient legends, others very much owing their heritage to modern popular culture, these women range from seductive to murderous to superbly manipulative. Featuring stories by Ed McBain, Joyce Carol Oates, Michael Connelly, and many more, these suspenseful tails are sure to keep the listener guessing about what's in store - whether for the predatory female or the males who come too close. 10 CDs, approximately 11.5 hours, unabridged.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating & Outstanding Short Fiction Mystery Anthology
The film, "Fatal Attraction," features a dangerous woman - lethal, in fact. "The Maltese Falcon's" Brigid O'Shaughnessy is certainly a hazard. "What makes a woman dangerous?" Is she irresistible? Seductive? Does she wound with her eyes? Is she a femme fatale, "aware of her power, or utterly innocent of it?" Otto Penzler, editor, bookseller, and founder of Mysterious Press, asks this question in his Introduction to this short fiction anthology, "Dangerous Women." The answer is subjective - a matter of opinion. Seventeen outstanding authors, some of the best writers in the mystery/suspense genre, answer the question here, creatively, diabolically, deliciously. Lying, manipulation, seduction, horror, murder, secretiveness, suicide - they're all covered in these stories. "Dangerous Women" is an outstanding, wicked, absolutely amazing collection. Consistent excellence is what makes this book so special and sets it apart from the rest. Ed McBain, Michael Connelly, Joyce Carol Oates, Anne Perry, Elmore Leonard, Walter Mosley, Laura Lippman, Nelson DeMille, Thomas Cook, Andrew Klaven, John Connolly, Lorenzo Carcaterra, J. A.Jance, Jay McInerey, S. J. Rozen, Jeffrey Deaver and Ian Ranki, are all at their best here.

In Ed McBain's "Improvisation," a man approaches a tall, willowy blonde at a bar and asks her - "So, what do we do for a little excitement tonight?" The woman, a stranger, suggests, "Why don't we kill somebody?" Their mating ritual lightens up, but only momentarily. Michael Connelly's Detective Harry Bosch, says, in "Cielo Azul," that his LAPD partner always believed "the most dangerous women are beautiful in life, heartbreaking in death." "A black and silver diamond-headed spider, the so-called 'happy spider,' " who spins her web with venom, is Joyce Carol Oates' kind of woman in "Give Me Your Heart." Talk about a woman scorned! Walter Mosley's "Karma" loved somebody so much she'd die for him. "Rendezvous," Nelson DeMille's first short story in twenty-five years, takes you into a sweltering Vietnamese jungle where the most lethal enemy is not a man at all. Ian Rankin writes about a prison warden fascinated by the steamy prison mail he censors in "Soft Spot." Jeffrey Deaver's "Born Bad" is chilling! Every one of these stories is a gem, along with those I have not mentioned.

This is the perfect book to take on a trip....or on the train to work...or for reading during lunch hour. You can read a short story as satisfying as any novel, and put the book down without feeling that you have left at a crucial moment in the narrative. You can read selectively, or read only one story at a time. They are all winners. "Dangerous Women" is probably the best and most exciting mystery anthology I have ever come across. Highly recommended!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Stories, Previews
Many free Kindle books are awesome. Not this one. I got this in paperback form from our bookstore a year or so ago. You don't get 10 stories, you get mediocre previews of 10 books.

4-0 out of 5 stars very neat
I am NOT a fan of samples. So, with that said when I read in the description that it was a sampling of 10 series from good authors, I almost passed it by. But then, I thought it's free and why not. I have been finishing some series that I have loved but they have come to an end and I have been looking for new ones to start. So, for me this was neat because I got a few chapters of 10 stories to see if I liked and for free.

Although most I had heard of, the first one of Jolly was new to me. I didn't think I would really like it being that the only seeming thing for her was she could run or walk on water. But the pirate theme got to me and I enjoyed it. Being able to jump into multiple series and see the different writing styles, perspectives, storylines, and plots was nice and made for a good read. Although I didn't get excited about any of them in particular, I liked looking at them as short stories.

All in all, it was a pleasant read and for anyone shopping for new series then I would definitely recommend. The 10 included are:
1.The Wave Walkers: Pirate Curse by Kai Meyer
2.Shadow Children: Among the Free by Margaret Haddix
3.Leven Thumps: Leven Thumps and the Gateway of Foo by Obert Skye
4.The Ratbridge Chronicles, Vol 1: Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow
5.The Cronus Chronicles, Book 1: The Shadow Thieves by Anne Ursu
6.Gideon the Cutpurse by Linda Buckley-Archer
7.Pendragon, Book 7: The Quillan Games by D. J. MacHale
8.The Eidolon CHronicles, Book 1: The Secret Country by Jane Johnson
9.Uglies by Scott Westerfield
10. Valiant: A Modern Tale of Faerie by Holly Black

2-0 out of 5 stars Only a sample of each story
How disappointing! I would have been upset if I hadn't gotten this book for free. It is NOT a book of swashbuckling fantasy, each entry is a short sample of a much longer piece. If you just want to sample to see if a piece is interesting, then this might appeal to you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Many Works on One CD
Like others have said, there are so many different works spanning thousands of years of church history from St. Augustine to G.K. Chesterton. It is great to have such a variety on one convenient CD.I also appreciated the search feature, especially when I was writing a paper and wanted to be sure that I was looking at all of the occurrences of a particular theme. It is also convenient to have the option to install the documents on your hard drive or leave them on the CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Diverse Resource
Two things immediately strike you about this product. The first one is the amount of literature and writings there are. The big names i.e. Augustine, Luther, Calvin are contained on the cd, but also many others who you may not go out of your way to read. The diversity of the genres are striking since the files you have access to include meditations, prayers, commentaries, hymns, histories and even topical textbooks. All in all the amount that the cd contains is well worth the purchase price.
The second thing that is good about this product is how easy it is to use. The installation is quick and painless. The interface is fairly straight forward and is not confusing. This is a wonderful product. It contains a vast amount of knowledge and writings in a format that is both easy to access and read. Well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Resource
As a student of Christian history, I've found this CD to be really quite useful. This collection represents a wide variety of Christian perspectives throughout history. The interface is very easy, every piece of literature is searchable, the setup is a breeze. You can choose which works and/or authors to download directly from the CD to your computer, and which to access from the CD only.

The features are very easy to use; installation is easy; use is easy. Having these authors is great for personal study, for academic study, for devotional exploration. I highly recommend this collection, for anyone who wants to explore for themselves the perspectives, arguments, and doctrines throughout the Christian ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Christian Classics on CD
The Christian Classics Ethereal Library "Classics" CD is an outstanding library of 118 Christian classic books. This digital library contains 3 Bible translations and commentaries from authors such as Calvin, Henry, Luther, Spurgeon, and Wesley, and others. It also includes classic works by St. Augustine, St. Aquinas, Bounds, Bunyan, Fox, McDonald, Murray, Whitefield, etc. Early church creeds and documents on history, hymns, mysticism, and Bible dictionaries are included as well, plus sermons by some of the most famous preachers ever to proclaim the Word: Edwards, Finney, Luther, McDonald, Murray, Spurgeon, Wesley, Whitefield, etc.

All of the 118 books are in digital format but are also available in PDF format for easy downloading and printing. This is without a doubt one of the finest libraries available for Christian reading or study. It would be difficult, expensive, and time-consuming to gather all of these great books together, but CCEL has done it all on one CD. We highly recommend it.
