    Extractions: JOHN WATERS : Il a réalisé, 13 films a peu prés et il est considéré comme un cinéaste culte indépendant pour ses films comme Pink Flamingos musique de Pink Flamingos ) réalisé en 1972, ou encore Polyester (1981, le premier et seul film présenté en Odorama). Il realise souvent ses films avec les mêmes acteurs, mais la plupart sont morts. Parmi ceux la il y a Divine, personnage principal de Pink Flamingos, Divine est un travesti mais qui joue des roles de femmes et non de travesti (comme dans Polyester ou il joue le role de la mère). John Waters a un réel gout pour la provocation et pour le mauvais gout (il du payer une amende de 5000$ pour obscénité dans Pink Flamingos), mais maintenant il est plus sage. Il commenca a réaliser des films "tout public" a partir de Polyester et il commenca a tourner des films moins provocateurs comme Cry baby , avec Johny Depp, et un film grincant (mais hollywoodien) : Serial mom avec Kathleen Turner. En 1998 il réalisa Pecker , un film apparamment trés sage mais en réalité assez acerbe vis a vis de l'Amerique et de Baltimore. D'ailleurs tout ses films se passent a Baltimore. John Waters a réalisé un nouveau film : Cecil B Demented qui est sorti le 2 aout en France. Ce film a été présenté hors compétition au Festival de Cannes 2000.

    Extractions: Harry Cook of Morton Grove has put me again in need of an Ely fix. His father, Charles Ira Cook Jr., accomplished one of my yearnings. He spent the year after World War I exploring in the Boundary Waters. And he hooked up not only with Chosathe top Indian entrepreneur of the areabut with the storied trapper and guide, Bill Berglund. It was Berglund who went on to found a fishing camp on Knife Lake that he later shared with Dorothy Molter. Better known as "The Root Beer Lady" for the service she provided thousands of paddlers, or "The Wilderness Nurse" for the many victims of illness and accident who came under her care, she died in 1986. Her cabin, built four portages from Ely, was reassembled like a shrine in a city park.

    Extractions: Flaming Creatures Flaming Creatures (1963) was not his first film; that distinction belongs to The Buzzards of Baghdad By all accounts, Smith was difficult but charismatic, a magical trickster manically involved in all kinds of projects at all times. Never far from poverty in spite of a few grants here and there, he was gifted in seducing actors and friends to work for free and in "appropriating" materials he needed for his art. For Creatures and the films that followed, he used cheap, sometimes discarded, color reversal stock to immortalize the drag queens , mermaids, vampires , naked poets, and other "creatures" who populate his films. The effect is of a dream that stubbornly resists consciousness, the imagery sometimes subtle and painterly, sometimes stark and high-contrast in rendering the filmmaker’s ecstasy-drenched demimondes. Smith was raised on Hollywood kitsch, and the imagery of 1940s movie monsters, and especially his patron saint Maria Montez — to whom he built an altar and prayed — inspired him. Always a good talker, he insisted on Montez’s importance as an actress to all who would listen (and there were many). He called her "the Holy One" and "the Miraculous One." After a screening of one of her films, he told a friend, "The Miraculous One was raging and flaming. Those are the standards for art."
