Rusty Jazz This provided him with the opportunity to study a variety of styles and play inbig bands that accompanied entertainers Al martino, vic Damone, Diahann Carrol http://www.rustyjazz.com/tim.html
Extractions: Tim Mayer - Tenor Saxophone Tim Mayer, a mainstay with the group since its inception, started playing saxophone when he was ten. He started learning jazz at Florida State University's Summer Music Camp in 1980, where he found himself studying with many young and talented musicians including Marcus Roberts. In Los Angeles, while studying Russian Language at Occidental College, he found work as a sound engineer and as a musician in various jazz, rock, reggae and blues bands. He was also the tenor player for Roy Gaines and Guitar Shorty, both well-known blues guitarists. After graduating in 1988, Tim moved to Portland, Oregon and he performed with many of Los Angeles' jazz legends such as bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Akbar DePriest. In December of 1990, Tim began what was to be a three-year stint working aboard cruise ships. This provided him with the opportunity to study a variety of styles and play in big bands that accompanied entertainers Al Martino, Vic Damone, Diahann Carrol, Bobby Rydell, Connie Stevens, Jack Jones, and many others. In September of 1993, Tim attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied privately with Andy McGhee, George Garzone, and Bill Pierce. In the summer of 1994, Tim led his own trio called Jazz Pyramid on a tour of Spain. His band performed at various clubs and at the Estepona Jazz Festival. He also appeared on live shows for Radio Canal Sur and Malaga TV. After returning to Boston, Tim became involved in many Latin jazz groups including Conjunto Zaraguey and the group Heart and Fire, led by Wayne Naus. He has worked with The Mendes Brothers, recording their latest CD and accompanying them on their tour through Europe and Africa, and with Jon Hazilla on his CD "Form and Function", released on the CIMP label. More recently, Tim opened for Chucho Valdez at the Baranqui Jazz Festival in Baranquilla, Columbia. In addition to his work with Rusty, Tim has performed locally with visiting artists John Faddis, Bob Mintzer, Nick Brignola, and Ed Calle.
