Extractions: Jeremy Kushnier returns to the stage where he starred in Footloose before taking it on to Broadway. This time, he is starring in the new national tour of Aida , an eye-popping musical that has been giving Broadway audiences a rousing good time for over two years. Enter into the spirit of the thing and you are guaranteed an evening filled with one knock-your-socks-off moment after another. Storyline: The Egyptian army takes prisoners from neighboring Nubia including, unbeknownst to them, the princes Aida. The Egyptian commander Radames is betrothed to the Pharaohs daughter but falls in love with Aida. Love and jealousy, patriotism and treason, fate and even reincarnation play in a different version of the story than in the classic opera. The story may be drawn from the Egyptian legend which became the famous opera, but dont expect grand opera. Instead, there is the pop sound of the music by Elton John in his first written-for-the-stage outing. And there are lyrics by Tim Rice (

Extractions: Jim Hindman Encouraged by the overwhelming response to last years event, Transport Group has scheduled Gimme A Break II for October 28th at the Culture Project, 45 Bleecker Street in New Yorks Greenwich Village. The concert will feature over 20 Broadway stars singing the songs that helped launch them on the Great White Way. Transport Group was created in January, 2001 by co-founders Jack Cummings III and Robyn Hussa with an eye towards mounting large-cast traditional American plays for todays audiences. Theres nothing unusual about theater companies hosting events to raise funds, but last year Jack wanted their fund-raiser to stand out in some way. He asked his wife, actress Barbara Walsh, for advice. She told him, Dont tell people what to sing. Dont make them learn anything and dont rehearse them because we all get asked to do a lot of these. The times that I have enjoyed it the most is when people just asked me to come and perform. With that in mind, Jack developed the idea behind

DC Review: Footloose Enter Ren, hero of the piece, played very ably by jeremy kushnier, a newcomer toBroadway, whose arrival will certainly merit much praise and possibly an award http://www.curtainup.com/footloos.html
Extractions: Back to DC Main Page The Internet Theater Magazine Of Reviews, Features, Annotated Listings http://www.curtainup.com A CurtainUp DC Review Footloose Footloose, the new Walter Bobbie musical, based on the 1984 hit movie of the same name, opens with a dayglo colored silklike scrim and overamplified, not particularly original, rock and roll music. Teenagers whirl about the stage on skateboards and rollerblades singing lyrics that include such buzzwords as "cut loose" and "sexuality" both of which prove to be a tease. This was the first of many numbers whose lyrics were unintelligible from my Row V seat. Enter Ren, hero of the piece, played very ably by Jeremy Kushnier, a newcomer to Broadway, whose arrival will certainly merit much praise and possibly an award or two. The Canadian native, trained as a classical dancer, moves with grace, agility, and a naturalness that is a joy to watch. He can sing too. And his stage presence is well suited to the role of street smart, big city kid who ends up in the sticks. In Bomont, the teens don't rebel. They have no television, no telephone, no movies. The one reference to the internet seems anachronistic. As for music, noone makes it or listens to it. Reading is another no-no, with a line about the trouble one kid has getting through a Cliff Notes getting a big laugh.
A CurtainUp Review, Second Thoughts: Footloose I agree that jeremy kushnier brings a nice mix of actingdancing-singing talentsto the role of the city kid plopped into a bible-belt town whose church http://www.curtainup.com/footlsec.html
Extractions: Go here for Susan Davidson's Review of Footloose when it opened at the Kennedy Center in DC. The story line, casting (with one exception), dance and song routines remain unchanged from what's outlined in that review. Unlike many big musicals which go tripping around the country after a successful New York opening, a Footloose tour was already in place before the 10/22/98 New York opening. Stops in this itinerary are: Cleveland (12/15/98) and in 1999: Green Bay, Wisconsin; Columbus, Ohio; and Nashville, Tennessee. When Footloose jumpstarted its rebirth from a 1984 movie with a hit-making score to a high energy 6.5 million dollar musical at the Kennedy Center, Susan Davidson (who sandwiches CurtainUp reviews and features into her schedule as the Washingtonian 's arts editor) was there. Now the musical has danced its way to the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Its arrival marks my third "Second Thoughts" on a show that traveled from DC to NYC. in less than six months.
Musical Stages Online: US Regional/Touring Review: The Rhythm Club Choreographer Jodi Moccia. Cast Reviewed jeremy kushnier, Lauren Kennedy,Tim Martin Gleason, Barbara Walsh, Florence Lacy, Megan Lawrence. http://www.musicalstages.co.uk/international/usa/tour/rhythmclub_touring_review.
Extractions: Signature Theatre Reviewed September 2000 Director: Eric Schaeffer Music: Matthew Sklar Chad Beguelin Choreographer: Jodi Moccia Cast Reviewed: Jeremy Kushnier, Lauren Kennedy, Tim Martin Gleason, Barbara Walsh, Florence Lacy, Megan Lawrence It used to be that practically every new Broadway musical would open out of town for one or more engagements out of the glare of New York critical attention while the creative team saw what worked before an audience and fixed what didnt. It is a time honored, but very expensive process. With prices what they are today, some shows skip that stage because it can cost millions to mount the show in Boston or New Haven or Philadelphia or Washington. The Rhythm Club takes a different approach. It starts out here in Northern Virginia at Signature Theatres 136-seat black box where creators and audience alike get a very up-close-and-personal view of a show that has many, many strengths. The run discloses some areas that still need some work but they appear to be both few and fixable.

Extractions: jlawley@decaturdaily.com Like the culture and artifacts of ancient Egypt, a good love story is timeless. "Aida," a modern twist on Giuseppi Verdi's 1871 opera classic that is set in land of the pharaohs, will show Tuesday through March 23 at Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. Disney is involved in the production, as is Elton John. But their latest musical endeavor, put together along with lyricist Tim Rice, is a far cry from the trio's previous collaboration on "The Lion King." Unlike "The Lion King," with years of recognition gained from stage and screen versions, as well as soundtrack, "Aida" isn't nearly as prominent, yet remains a spectacular musical, said David Barry of the Bir-mingham Broadway Series. "I sometimes say that it's probably the biggest Broadway musical that you've never heard of," Barry said. "I love it so much that I've seen it five times." The production was honored with the Grammy for Best Musical Show in 2001. Heather Headley won the 2000 Tony Award for best actress for "Aida" on Broadway. The same year, Bob Crowley won the Tony for best scenic design and Natasha Katz won for lighting design.
Fresh Step jeremy of this band, is jeremy kushnier, an old friend of mine fromdance class at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and from high school. http://www.backstreet.net/fresh-step.html
Extractions: BSB Wannabees? You be the judge! Fresh Step were featured on David Letterman's "The Late Show" on March 3'rd 1999. They were there to promote their new song Talk To The Hand which is supposed to be on the soundtrack for a new movie with the same title. I snapped some pics of them because they reminded me of my favorite group. (I wonder who that could be?) I thought I would ask Backstreet.Net readers for their opinion so please vote at the bottom of this page. After doing a little research I found out that there is not going to be a movie titled 'Talk To The Hand' starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and James Van Der Beek. The whole thing is part of a joke on the Letterman show to promote this satirical boy band ! Some people are calling them Fresh Beef and Fresh Beef Stew Apparently they are all cast members (dancers) of the Broadway show "Footloose". Thay have also appeared on MTV's TRL. As HppyDazi@aol.com put it: I decided to do some research on "Fresh Step" also. I think they were on Total Request Live on MTV a while ago. I didn't see it, so I'm not sure if there was ever a real apperance there or not. But Carson Daily, the host of TRL, gets very sarcastic talking about "boy bands", not so much BSB, but more Nsync and Justin Timberlake. I looked at the Fresh-Step site too...how FAKE is that Not professional at all and they have a HOTMAIL address? Weird.
