News Daily," has agreed to serve as this year's Honorary Chair of the NO/AIDS WALK Sunday, Sept. 20. "This is the first time in the history of the WALK that we have had a celebrity of Steve's caliber offer his support," said WALK Co-Chairs Jo Ann Moinet and Gabe Nassar. "The WALK has a major commitment to raise dollars and awareness for the vital programs of NO/AIDS Task Force, and because of Steve's contribution, we feel this will be a banner year!" Kmetko, recently featured in the Aug. 3rd issue of People Magazine, joined E! Entertainment Television in 1994 as an anchor of "E! News Daily," a half-hour daily wrap-up of top news in the entertainment world. Since that time, Kmetko has become one of Hollywood's most visible celebrity chroniclers. The show airs twice a day and is one of the network's highest-rated programs. Kmetko will be on hand during the weekend of the WALK to encourage the community's pledges, support and attendance at Audubon park on Sun., Sept. 20, WALK Day. Registration will begin at 8am, aerobic warm-up at 9:30am, a brief opening ceremony at 10am, with the actual WALK starting at 10:30pm. Fun, food and drink are available for the entire family. Special entertainment begins at noon, after the WALKers complete the route.

As an out, proud gay man, he uses his familiar presence to spread the message of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), a media watchdog group that encourages truthful, positive images of the GLBT community. Kmetko will be in Columbus on Saturday, October 23, as the guest of honor at a GLAAD fundraiser at Out on Main. Although there is no GLAAD chapter in Columbus, this is the third fundraiser for the organization held by Out on Main co-owners Michael Caven and Thomas Grote. "I believe the work they do is incredibly important," said Caven. "Right off the bat it was a great match." Caven and Grote also started the FLIP foundation, through which a portion of all profits generated by the restaurant is given back to the community. More than $15,000 has been donated in this fashion in three years' time. Born in Cleveland and raised in Chicago, Kmetko took over anchor duties at E! in 1994. He brings a uniquely intelligent levity to the fluffy texture of entertainment journalism. "When I'm reporting on the latest arrest of some spoiled star who's been arrested for soliciting, or the latest Baywatch babe to get implantsI mean, c'mon," he told Columbus Alive. "I think to myself, `Oh brother!' And it usually shows on the air."
