Extractions: EMERGING PRODUCERS SCHEME The Emerging Producers Scheme was designed by SPAA to enable emerging producers to attend the SPAA Conference. The scheme provides a 50% discount on the SPAA Members Early-bird Registration fee. The aim of the Emerging Producer Scheme is to assist the new and upcoming members of our industry to attend the most important conference for producers on the calendar. The successful applicants are briefed by SPAA staff prior to the conference on how to develop business and creative contacts and to maximise networking opportunities. Extractions: Collaboration between the School of Architecture and Design and the University of South Australia Student Association led to students being involved in the design of a community housing development that would meet the needs of both able bodied and disabled students. The project, extending over two years and involving both state and local government funding as well as external sponsorships, provided students with a valuable learning experience. More than 50 Level 2 architecture and interior architecture students were involved in the project through case study workshops, the design of lighting and glass tiling. Six units, car-parks, circulation and landscaping were required within a limited inner city site area. Explorations of concepts were made particularly challenging by the high proportion of the site required for two single storey wheel chair accessible units and the community imperative requiring ground level access to all units. The design is conscious of its context in location and time. It has responded to the rich and eclectic urban fabric that surrounds it by providing a richness of form, material and colour employing lightweight durable and flexible materials under broad rimmed roofs.

Extractions: Biography At 5pm on the 27th of February 1975, Quentin Alexander Kenihan was born at the Box Hill Hospital to Kerry and Geoff. It was discovered that he was born with 8 broken bones and 2 hernias. Quentin was diagnosed with Osteo genesis-imperfecta, a rare bone condition that meant that his bones were very brittle. At six months of age the Australian public got its first glimpse of Quentin when Kerry was raising money to set up a disability foundation on The Mike Walsh Show A year later surgery was required. Unfortunately the medical technology in Australia was not as advanced, and Quentin's parents had to look elsewhere for someone to treat their son. Money was raised, and Quentin and his father Geoff flew to San Francisco. It was a successful trip. While there Geoff designed and built a new wheelchair for Quentin. Again this moment was captured on film, this time by the show Towards 2000 Interest in Quentin was growing, and after a few more visits from tv crews, journalist Mike Willesee came up with the idea to do a documentary about the young boy. It was filmed when Quentin was again overseas, this time with his mother Kerry. The doco aired in 1983, and was the highset rating Australian documentary is Australian television history, (a record that has still not been broken.) It won a Logie award and made Quentin a household name. In 1986 the then Prime Minister the Hon. Bob Hawke cut funding to the disabled. Quentin didn't think this was fair and approached Mike Willesee to help with his cause. Mr Hawke accused Quentin and Mike of a publicity stunt, however 3 days later Mr Hawke changed his mind and reinstated the slashed funding.
