Commentary: What really made this movie for me, however, was the fact that, upon discovering that Pat had been paid to take her out, Kat ran off in anger and days later realized she never hated him. Why? Because until a month ago I was in a similar situation. It's really special when you can relate to a movie like that. I may sound biased, but I have not been personally touched by a movie like this ever since I saw Clerks. I can name a few things that are actually bad about this movie...but all the good stuff makes up for it and more.

What intrigued me about 10 THINGS was the fact that this was supposed to be an updated rendition of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew 10 THINGS is a wonderful romantic comedy that I look forward to seeing again. Extractions: For some reason I wanted to see "10 Things I Hate About You" when it was in the theaters but I never did. This got in the way, that got in the way, and after watching it on video, I'm kinda sorry things got in the way, but I think, in the end, it makes a better rental and didn't really need a big screen. Alright, that sounds a little confusing, but during the video it plays out pretty simply, and if you can't guess that Cameron ends up with Bianca and Patrick actually ends up liking Kat, even though he got paid to take her out, well I guess I just ruined it for you, but you can't tell me you didn't see it coming. In any case, as a rental, I give "10 Things I Hate About You" 3 stars out of 5. It would have been more, but I think it lost its appeal as a family video with the useless Ms. Perky's writings. Too bad. And, oh yea, stay past Letters for Cleo singing the Cheap Trick classic "Surrender" for some sort of funny out-takes. They aren't the greatest, but I did get a chuckle or two.

I tellya, there's no writer in Hollywood right now who's hotter than William Shakespeare. He's got several other updated versions of his work coming out soon, and strangely enough, almost all of them feature Julia Stiles, who is also in this movie. Say "10 Things I Hate About You" out loud. Now say "The Taming of the Shrew" out loud. Now say 'em both out loud, one after the other. In a weird kinda way, the two phrases rhyme. Okay, I KNOW that it's a very, very, very loose rhyme, but back when I used to be a huge rap-a-holic, The Geto Boys had a song where "shoulder," "corners," and "on me" all somehow rhymed. Jesus Christ, I am so NOT Roger Ebert. There are tons of Shakespearean references, some of which are very in-your-face, others which are much more obscure.
