Extractions: The Northeastern women's soccer team defeated the University of Maine today at Sweeney Field in Boston, Mass. 2-1. After a grueling first half, which saw no scoring by either team, junior Shannon Dwyer scored NU's first goal at the 56:25 mark off fellow junior Jen Herlihy's corner kick. Dwyer's header found the back right of the net for her fourth goal of the year. Just over two minutes later, the Huskies struck again. Dwyer's lazy header sailed over Black Bear goalie Karyn McMullin's head before being sent in by junior Melissa Cohen. With just under nine minutes left in the contest, Maine's Annie Hamel rocketed one past junior goalie Shellie Parkinson to make the game 2-1 in favor of NU. The teams battled out the final minutes of action with the Huskies holding on to the victory. The Huskies improved to 8-1-1 on the season and 2-1 in America East action, while Maine fell to 5-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. NU next takes the field on Saturday at 1 p.m as they take on the Wildcats of New Hampshire.
