Chicago Right now Broadway has belle calaway who won the Helen Hayes Award here whenshe was headlining the tour as well as Roxane Carrasco in the two merry http://www.potomacstages.com/Chicago.htm
Extractions: Chicago first opened on Broadway in 1975. It was a major hit although it was eclipsed by the nearly simultaneous appearance of A Chorus Line which made Chicagos run of nearly a thousand performances seem negligible compared to Chorus Line's history-making run of over 6,000. In 1996 the Encores! series staged a concert version of the score which was such a hit that it was fleshed out for a full production which is still going strong and going strong is exactly the right way to describe the production in its sixth year. Storyline: A vaudeville of songs and skits, each of which adds to the narrative of a simple story about two women in prohibition-era Chicago who achieve celebrity from jail as they await trial on their separate murder charges. Their notoriety is ultimately eclipsed by even more spectacular crimes but they manage to break into show business when their sleazy lawyer gets them off by doing a little razzle-dazzle on the juries. The score by John Kander and Fred Ebb (who are also represented on Broadway right now with a great revival of Cabaret ) is one of the most exciting, varied and jazziest scores available on Broadway today. Enough of the style and feel of Bob Fosses original choreography was retained to make

Chicago Is Rick Sincere Metro Herald Entertainment Editor Stand aside, Comet Hale-Bopp there's a new star rising above the Washington horizon, and she's at the National Theatre! The new star is Belle Calaway, the understudy who took over the key role of Roxie Hart in the new touring company of Chicago , and blew away the crowd on opening night. Calaway and her co-star, Jasmine Guy, brought the audience to its feet with thundering applause. While Guy slithered sensually across the stage, Calaway exuded energy enthusiastically. A last minute replacement for Charlotte d'Amboise, who is nursing an injury and expected to return to the cast in about three weeks, Calaway evokes the spirit and star-power of Gwen Verdon, who created the musical role of Roxie Hart in 1975. In fact, Calaway's vocal and dance style nearly replicates Verdon's, a remarkable feat in itself. The question remains: If Calaway the understudy is this terrific, how good is d'Amboise herself? We'll see in a few weeks. Chicago features one of the best scores by John Kander and Fred Ebb, who also wrote

Extractions: February 28, 2001 So I'm finally back. Again, I can't really tell how many people (if any) were waiting for an update, but I am trying to keep this web journal thing going. I enjoy doing it, and it's nice to have a record of sorts of what I've been doing. And if others can enjoy it, even better. Meanwhile, I'm still having digital camera issues, so I am not very able to add new and exciting photos. Which makes me a bit sad. Of course, I keep feeling tempted just to go out and get a spectacular new digital camera that doesn't have any exposure issues, but I realize that I should try not to spend that money, and that I should instead try to get mine fixed (I have already tried once, but I don't think things are all fixed yet). We'll see if I can manage to resist the temptation to buy a new camera. Meanwhile, yes, I am only just sliding in with a February entry (I have about an hour and a half to go!), but I was out of town for a while... But as we know (or perhaps we are just coming to know), I don't really believe in making excuses for things, so the being away thing might not help all that much. So what have I been up to since the last entry?
