Votes Never Jumped Ronnie Burns joins the cast Advertising It turned into a sitcom Other Thoughts: The greatest sitcom of all time, with a do-anything spirit that was decades ahead of its timeeverything from having George Burns watch the show on his television in his den, and talking to the camera and commenting on the plot, to one of the greatest moments in TV history, where Larry Keating replaced Fred Clark as Harry Morton in mid-scene. George came out and explained that Fred was leaving the show, and that Larry was replacing him. The two men shook hands, Clark left, and the scene continued. This show was a classic and it was always fantastic to watch! However; when they brought in their grown son Ronnie as a regular ( having never even hinted at being parents before) and with them and the Mortons them moving from their houses to a hotel, it lost its equilibrium! Gracie's character was wonderful and always a joy to watch .She's the ancestress of 'Green Acres' Lisa Douglas and 'Friends' Phoebe but her *character* was not someone believable as a mother - as opposed to her Real Life intelligent and responsible persona! A wonderful classic show. My favorite episode was when George, Gracie, and company took a train trip to New York, and Gracie plays cards with a nuclear scientist she meets on the train and she wins! George Burns's "magic TV" must have been good preparation for his later playing God in the movies.

Jan. 7, 1978 Career Batting Record The 6-foot-1½, 180 pound Burns was a right-handed first baseman who batted over .300 eight times, including marks of .352 and .358 without winning a batting title. However, he was named the AL's most valuable player in 1926, when he led the AL with 216 hits and 64 doubles. That was the season he batted .358. Burns entered the major leagues with the Detroit Tigers in 1914. He went to the Philadelphia Athletics in 1918, when he had 178 hits to lead the league. Philadelphia traded him to the Cleveland Indians during the 1920 season. He went to the Boston Red Sox in 1922, returning to Cleveland in 1924. He split the 1928 season between Cleveland and the Nw York Yankees and he retired after playing in just 38 games for the Yankees and Athletics in 1929. He had a .307 career average with 2,018 hits, including 444 doubles, 72 triples, and 72 home runs. He scored 901 runs and had 951 RBI.
