Brown's impressive performance was not only noted by the fans who responded to him with one of the biggest "pops" of the night, but by NWA Va. officials who sized him up! Brown was set to challenge the current NWA Va. Champion Jacey North the next night at a Virginia Championship Wrestling / NWA Va. show in Newport News. In convincing fashion, Brown pinned North after a powerslam and scissor legdrop. But ... North had lost the title the previous night to Preston Quinn! Brown was roughly 24 hours too late in gaining his victory! The same night that Phil Brown defeated Biggie Biggs, Jacey North defended his title. After a hard fought battle in defeating Sonjay Dutt that left both men hurting and dehydrated, North's big mouth was his downfall. Claiming that he had always said he'd defend the belt anywhere against any challenger, he was taken up on that offer by Preston Quinn. Forced into the match by Commissioner Rob Hoffmann, Quinn defeated North for the belt after a Niagara Driver. With Quinn now a dual champion holding both the NWA Va. and VCW heavyweight championships, he was already contractually obligated to defend the VCW title against Sean Lei in Newport News.

Extractions: Phil was born in Newcastle NSW and grew up during the '60's listening to contemporary Folk music which had a higher profile in the pop music scene at that time, when hits from performers such as Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and The Seekers gained air-play all over the world. Even the real pop songs had a gentle "folksy" feel about them. Phil like many others was influenced by what he heard, but it wasn't until he was in his 20's that he actively played an instrument. Luckily for Phil, in 1972 moved into the block of flats where he was living at the time and they introduced him to the "Folk Centre" down the laneway off Ann St. Brisbane, which ran every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. After the Thursday night at the "Barley Mow" and the Saturday night at the "Folk Centre" most would sing their hearts out at the inevitable party till the wee hours. It took Phil a while to pluck up the courage to actually get up and perform in front of an audience, but he eventually did, and didn't look back. Phil spent some time in Melbourne and then in the UK soaking up the music. Eventually he returned to Brisbane where in the early '80's he had a heavy involvement in the organisation of the

I passed the Sun Certified Solaris Administrator tests I and II, with an average of 90%. I also delve into programming(C++, java, sockets, ...). I've been fiddling with computers since I was about 8 years old. I started on a cute little Timex Sinclair, or as they were known in England, a ZX81. From there, I moved through through Tandy "Color Computers", Apple IIs, and DOS machines. [ I actually got an article published about Color Computers, in "Rainbow Magazine". May 88, perhaps? It was a how-to on using shared memory and inter-process communication, under Basic09. At the time, shared memory was relatively new. Using it under basic, was almost unbelievable.] After the interesting backroads of computing, all roads lead to UNIX (as Bill Gates has found out). I eventually got myself a sun 3/60, and took the plunge. I worked my way up to a sparc 10/100(ross cpu) at home. But I finally gave in to the price/performance troll, and bought a dual celeron 400mhzx2 box. At one point, I used to frequent the local SCA chapter, but find myself lacking time for that. I also enjoy singing, acting, tennis, cricket, sci-fi, fencing, and a few other estoterics.
