Lonnie Earl, it seems, has a thing for Candy and when evidence of this starts to surface, this fun-filled road trip really heats up. It was Billy Bob Thornton who first envisioned a sexy farce in the vein of the classic couple-swapping comedy "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice," being set in the Deep South, one of the last frontiers for a romantic comedy. Thornton came up with the idea at a lunch with producer Ben Myron who urged him to write what they dubbed a "true redneck romantic comedy," stripped of the form's usual pretensions and urban characters. In the meantime, though, Thornton made the Oscar-winning "Sling Blade" and became a major Hollywood phenomenon as both an actor and director. He never had time to get back to his Southern couples comedy so he turned the project over to two writing friends he trusted with the material: newcomers Brent Briscoe and Mark Fauser, who had written for the series "Hearts Afire," in which Thornton starred. Briscoe and Fauser were fascinated by Thornton and Myron's concept - and picked up the story from there.

Extractions: Say It Isn't So by Adam J. Hakari Peter and Bobby Farrelly have made some of the damndest funny movies in recent memory, or at least helped out in making them. Unfortunately, Say It Isn't So is not one of them. American Pie Say It Isn't So Say It Isn't So could have been more. Although the laughless and shockingly disgusting screenplay proves to be quite a reminder of why gross-out comedies went out of style in the first place, the cast doesn't help much either, sinking to new career lows by allowing themselves to believe in the trashy script's humor factor. Klein plays a simpleton who, because he knows people think he's guilty of incest and doesn't try to put an end to the insults once he discovers he isn't, deserves the violent, slapsticky torture he endures throughout the film. How the lovely Heather Graham was roped into her role is a mystery to me, but somehow, she makes it out of the clumsy train wreck of a character with her integrity intact. Orlando Jones appears in the thankless role of a legless, Jimi Hendrix-wannabe pilot who believes Gilly and tries to help him stop the wedding.
