UrbanStyle | Sophie Lin Lingerie Lin had sewn and gathered neckties, turning the neckwear into a bold, 3D design WhetherSophie Lins sarcasm is born of a genuinely grounded world view or http://www.urbanstyle.com/localScene/vogueEvents/2001/slinlingerie/default.htm
Extractions: Orchestrated Underwear Lin's "A Movement in Lingerie" composed with sexy kitsch. A laidback night of music at Zentra accompanied Sophie Lins Movement in Lingerie, the second showing by the Art Institute graduate at this nightclub. The lighthearted work was more of a preview than a collection; the show represented a review of Lins latest experimentations more than a fully realized body of work. In this review Sophie Lin has begun building the foundations of a complex design language, blending high camp with a tongue-in-cheek sexuality to make work that was awkwardly, somehow endearingly, sexy. House music plays low in the sparsely populated bar; at 9 PM, the crowds have not yet gathered outside. Tables laden with designer samples line the curtained entryway black thongs scrawled with Warning: I might hurt you are displayed next to pastel Ts with holographic kitsch kittens labeled Pas Deux Chats and Dont let these fool you. Beware of kitty! For this brief line of briefs, Lin relied on a Hallmark-inspired high camp to offset the crude sex of the tight shirts and thongs, creating something in the middle that is a mix of humor, sarcasm, and an abashed, yet proud, provocation. The structure of the garments mirrors this sentiment: tight crop tops appliquéd with corset fronts; one cap of a T sporting a fishnet sleeve while the other lay bare. These asymmetric forms cute with a lopsided Goth smack became the visual manifestation of the social morays Lin crowds together.
UrbanStyle | Sophie Lin Show fabrics with side panels removed, derrieres exposed, midriffs revealed - are coynessmade bold. In much the same way, sophie Lin's views on fashion echo this http://www.urbanstyle.com/localScene/vogueEvents/2001/slin/default.htm
Extractions: Speak Softly Sophie Lin's debut line Sotto Voce dominates demurely. Zentra nightclub was packed recently for the debut of designer Sophie Lin's Sotto Voce collection. The show was produced by Behind the Bindi, a group determined to bring a fresh wave of cultural events to Chicago. The night's focus was on fashion made only with Indian fabrics. As it happened, the fashion focused solely on Sophie Lin. "I met Priya Rao of BTB Productions at the AIBI office," she recalls. "She was having a show and she needed one more designer. One lived in India and the other dropped out. So I, having the dumbest luck in all the world, was given a solo show!" "I had to use Indian fabrics for the show, and I used them the best way I knew how," she continued. She used them well. While outside the scope of her normal production, Lin's agility in adapting to a "themed" fashion show resulted in work that succeeded in blending an intimate bedside luxury with public sex appeal through the look of Indian/Hindi dress. This tension between the quietly private and the seductively public is the keystone of her Sotto Voce line. Italian for "in soft tones," the luxury of Sotto Voce conjures up the bedtime feel of silks shushing against one's skin. Her work does, indeed, have that pampering to it - a private luxury jealously guarded, but publicly displayed.

Extractions: Sophie Masson, an Australian writer with an extensive background in medieval history and folklore, draws upon her expertise to produce yet another masterful fantasy novel. Based on a famous Russian legend that many others have used to inspire their books, Masson's take on the tale offers refreshing new variations on the theme. In this latest spin on the firebird mythos, Masson sets up the familiar characters in their milieu: the courts of old Russia of a thousand years or so ago where powerful, greedy Tsar Demyan favors his two oldest sons, brutal Yuri and sly Igor, who take after their father, while the youngest prince, Ivan, possesses keen intelligence and a kind and gentle nature (much like his dear departed mother). Ivan endures the endless taunts and torments of his brothers, unpleasantries made worse when Yuri gets betrothed to the girl the youngest sibling has loved nearly all his life the bold, bright and beauteous Princess Tamara, only daughter of the king of nearby Vakhtania and a descendant of the legendary enchantress Medea. The real excitement begins when Ivan witnesses the fabled firebird alighting on a rare apple tree in his father's garden. Lusting to possess the magical creature, the Tsar commands his sons to go forth on a quest to capture it and return with it to the palace. Resolved to be the first to find the winged wonder, Ivan embarks on a journey that Masson embellishes with many creative elements all her own, departing from the well-known versions of the story.

Extractions: Hi, everyone. The arrival each fall of the fresh crop of Beaujolais Nouveau is for many budding wine lovers one of the more exciting events of the year. That is not because Beaujolais Nouveau are necessarily extraordinary wines. One of our more discriminating customers was recently offered a Beaujolais and scoffed heartily that he was not interested in "grape juice." Stung, we quickly told him we were recommending a Beaujolais, not a Beaujolais Nouveau, and he paused, aware there must be a difference, but realizing he was caught up short. Because of the intense hype surrounding the annual release of Beaujolais Nouveau, this customer had never discovered that Beaujolais wines can be exciting, accommodating and even seductive dinner partners. For those who don't spend all their free time studying wine, it might be useful to explain what Beaujolais Nouveau is. Beaujolais Nouveau is largely a marketing exercise. On the third Thursday in each November, a batch of fresh wine is served from each of the vintners in the Beaujolais region.. That's right, fresh wine. Breaking all the normal rules of red wine making, Beaujolais Nouveau are made to be drunk immediately - within weeks of appearing. The idea is that by drinking the un-aged wine, one can judge the potential of the fledgling vintage of Beaujolais. Burgundy lovers also judge their season based on Beaujolais Nouveau because Beaujolais is within Burgundy and subject to many of the same weather conditions.
