Product Description
A professional looking finish is the dream of most woodworkers. One way to achieve it is through modern spray finishing. Recent improvements in the equipment and widespread adoption have lowered costs making this technique widely available. But there is little information apart from magazine articles and our 1996 book. This book collects the best recent articles from Fine Woodworking on spray finishing and other modern finishing techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Someone gave this book 2 stars? What?
I got this book and went through it.
It's published in 2006 - relatively current.
They cover the new technologies and the new products.
They also show you how to save a buck or two.

It's inventive.
Using automotive materials to finish wood? yep.
Build a small inexpensive paint-booth? yep.
Build your own turbine paint spray system? yep. Although I do have a turbine.
Cover all the thinning and cutting products, when to use them? yep.

I should give this book a terrible review - so nobody around where I live wants to buy it.

I have experience with automotive and wood finishing. I learned a lot. You will too.

5 star.

2-0 out of 5 stars Recapped articles
This is a compilation of articles written in their magazine. It is not a comprehensive book on how to spray finish.I recently bought an HVLP sprayer and wanted more of a tutorial consistent how to steps. This did not meet my needs and will be purchasing another option. There are some very good articles and some great woodworkers that have ocntributed. So I will keep the book.

I am a pretty advanced woodworker and read a lot about the craft and have always finished the old fashioned way but got a chance to get a really nice HVLP for next to nothing at auction. If you are competent with an HVLP and are looking for tips and advanced techniques this might fit your needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Practical Advice
If you plan to do a lot of spray finishing and whether you are starting out or are experienced - this Author has something of value for you.The tips and experience in here have kept me out of serious trouble.People actually pay us to make/finish things for them. They like our finishes. This book can give you what you need to get started making money and developing a reputation for doing the "hard stuff".I learned about spraying dyes from this man.I have learned to love dyes more than oil-based stains.Good Book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Make your own HVLP turbine!
This book has some good info including a few handy charts. What I like the most is the chapter on making your own HVLP turbine. The chapter on setting up a low cost spray booth is good.21 chapters in all, but I could have done without the aerosol finishes section, but others may love it. Good book for 12.00.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very thorough reference.
This book is a very thorough reference on finishing... well written.I find myself reading it a second time. ... Read more
