Extractions: HODGE-PODGE Unclassified Multi-faceted Writers On Writing ... For those who have asked and those who may, this collection of links for writers, researchers and the terminally curious is not, was never intended to be, and will never be the all-inclusive stash of every possible link fitting our slapdash criteria for what belongs here. We select sites with some consideration and thought for usefulness, depth, interest and je ne sais quoi and we try not to offer fifty different links to "manuscript submission." Sometimes we find a really cool site on a subject we already cover and mull over which link to keep and which to set free, sometimes we keep both and add a third. We lean toward linking to cool sites maintained by people we've met in the ether, but don't use a friend's site if there's a better site elsewhere. We don't link to just anybody and seldom link to commercial sites such as "Learn to Write in Five Days" or "We Will Publish Your Book" unless there is some no, make that a lot of free, useful content. We try to stay away from scammers and frauds; if you see links to what you think are questionable sites, drop us a line. We may or may not agree with you. Whether links are here or not is totally based on how we were feeling before our morning cup of espresso.

About once a year, I get the overwhelming urge to revamp the website. This year, I decided to make it possible to include "virtual" headers and footers (SSIs), so that basic site changes (such as new ads) would involve changing just one or two files rather than 700. It works but it also requires a change in the basic site URLs. Instead of ending with .html, all pages that use the virtual files must end with ".shtml" which means that effective immediately, all internal pages to the site now have the suffix ".shtml". The main index will remain the same; however, if you have bookmarked or linked to an internal page on Writing-World.com, please change your link! We have also made some internal changes, by eliminating some smaller directories and shifting their contents into larger directories. Thus, most of our columns are now in larger directories (e.g., "Imagination's Edge" is now located in the Science Fiction section). Click here for a list of basic directory changes; to track down a specific article that has moved, please see our new

Of course, if you write other kinds of fiction, you too are more than welcome to visit. :) In fact, I'll go so far as to say you might learn something from us romance writers. We work long, hard hours writing our love stories. And if you write romance novels (or enjoy reading romance novels), then look around. I've tried to create a nice little corner on the web for us to sit back and enjoy. It's that time again for an update, that is! Over the next few weeks, I plan to do a site-wide link check and possibly, tweaking some of the pages on the site, update the book lists and reviews, and do a little site maintenance! (09-01-2002). Check back soon for new articles on romance writing, new industry info, and new book reviews! Yes, the update has finally started in earnest, thank goodness! If you've never visited Alicia Rasley's Writers Corner , then you've really been missing out on some of the best writing instruction there is for romance writers. I find Ms. Rasley's articles some of the best on the internet (and I like to think I'm picky after having read oodles of writing articles). This month's writing tip of the month is a link to an article on her site especially for romance writers. Check it out!
