Extractions: The stakes, then, are very high. Unfortunately, there are few signs of unity among member-states over what institutional reforms the EU should adopt in order to smooth the path of entry for the ex-Communist countries. For example, Germany is a strong advocate of the EUs eastern enlargement, although it wants to ensure that the process does not entail bigger German contributions to the EU budget. Germany is also insisting on more democracy in the EU, including extra powers for the European Parliament. France, on the other hand, has been less keen on rapid enlargement to the east, mainly because its priority is to create a single European currency with Germany and itself as the key members. Doubts now hang over that project but if it does not go ahead French enthusiasm for eastern expansion will drain away. Moreover, France attaches more importance to retaining powers at the expense of the Commission and Parliament. contents archive writers newslink ... e-mail
Extractions: The idea came about quite naturally. We were simply responding to Mahmoud Darwich's invitation. He is a Palestinian poet and one of the founding members of the Parliament of Writers, and he is under siege in Ramallah. On two occasions, he was unable to come to the United States to receive an important prize from a U.S. university and to meet with Wole Soyinka, the former president of the parliament. We decided to go to Ramallah to see him, as well as Gaza to meet with other Palestinian writers under siege to break their isolation and reestablish a personal connection between them and the international community of writers. We went to listen to them and make their voices heard.

That's the Centralia Nerd Network, an underground Web newspaper at the high school, south of Olympia, Wash. The official student newspaper did not touch the issue of whether any candidates had missed deadlines for turning in texts for stump speeches and campaign spending receipts, but the five student staff members at CNN tracked down the details. "The school newspaper doesn't really write serious news stories," said Jonathan Stoffer, a senior who founded the Web site. This 30-singer ensemble has been performing in the greater Boston area since 1959. Under the leadership of music director Mary Beekman, the group has grown to be one of the most respected choral singing groups in the area, performing regularly to sold-out audiences. Musica Sacra's repertoire and reputation has grown significantly in recent years. However, by 2000 their Web site and general publicity were in disarray. They desperately needed help bringing their "market" reputation in line with their artistic one. I was invited to join the Musica Sacra board of directors to help fulfill this mission. In this pro bono capacity, I have provided Musica Sacra with a variety of media services, including a redesigned Web site and a mini-site at MP3.com with streaming audio, in addition to the oversight of collateral production for the group, including brochures, postcards and concert programs. Other marketing and PR efforts include print and e-mail mailing list management, broadcast and print media relations. The primary goal is to establish and maintain a consistent, professional identity and build targeted all-media marketing campaigns around each season and each performance

The writers say: "If confirmed, the result means Romania finally has completed the revolution begun seven years ago with the bloody overthrow of the communist dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu." They write: "Mr. Constantinescu's apparent victory last night completes a hat-trick (triple success) of triumphs for the pro-market opposition after local elections in June, and parliamentary elections a fortnight ago. A coalition of liberals and social democrats now is poised to form a new government." WASHINGTON POST: Romanians are ready for faster, tougher reforms

Extractions: Most people have an idea or two for a novel. Those same people, for the most part, are not good storytellers and are clueless about the industry. So, here's the idea: Set up a site that allows the general to post story ideas. Professional authors then bid on these ideas. Authors must register with the site and must meet certain criteria to be registered. (e.g. number of works published) Bids are expressed in terms of a percentage of the author's take. Each idea can be seen only by the authors and the person who posted it. The winning bidder gets to use the idea; the poster gets mentioned in the work, plus the agreed-upon percentage. Only after a work based on an idea has been published, the idea is available for viewing by the general public. The site could also list the top 10 ideas, based on sales.
Turning Justice Into Poison turning Justice Into Poison Brian Rainey. it's not the love the New Testament writerswere talking a written debate in the church newsletter, a prowar member http://www.geocities.com/progressivechristian/antiwar.html
Extractions: Brian Rainey Who Are Our Neighbors? "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" and "treat others as you would have others treat you" are some of the most famous New Testament morals. In fact, some New Testament writers say that they are the central message of Christianity. Paul writes, "the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in one saying, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself'" (Galatians 5:14). "Mark's" Jesus says that, along with loving God, there is no greater commandment than "you shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark 12:31). "Matthew's" Jesus says that the message of the entire Law and prophets can be summed up in the golden rule: "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the prophets" (Matthew 7:12). And there are many other passages that say loving one's neighbor as oneself is a cornerstone of the Christian Gospel. But this begs the question: who is my neighbor? Fortunately, a lawyer in Luke chapter 10 asked Jesus the same question two thousand years ago. In response to the inquiry, Jesus tells the well renowned story of the Good Samaritan . It is important to keep in mind that Samaritans were the arch rivals of the Jews, and there was an animosity between the two groups that went back to the end of the Babylonian exile. The conflict was so acute that twenty years after Jesus' death, there were a series what can only be described as race riots between Samaritans and Jews. In fact, the riots were so out of control that they had to be put down with Roman intervention. These explosive dynamics are the backdrop for Jesus' parable about the Good Samaritan. The implication of the story is that the Samaritan is the neighbor of the Judean and vice-versa, showing that who is one's "neighbor" transcends national affinities, associations and conflicts.
Writers/Staff Profiles - Dorn Navakuku more experienced husband felt that I was doing well enough to hunt with it, so Itoted the flintlock out the second month into the season, turning down offers http://www.womenhunters.com/bio-dorn-navakuku.html
Extractions: Hi, I'm Jody Navakuku, more commonly known online as Dornbrau or just plain Dorn. I did not grow up around hunting and even after being married to an avid hunter for 18 years, I have only been a hunter myself for the past 7 years. It wasn't until I realized how much it would cost to feed my 5 children, and how much meat went into the freezer after my husband brought home his first elk that I began to consider hunting. I have always been an animal lover, but reality sets in when you have 5 hungry pairs of eyes staring up at you as you dish out the beans for the 2nd night that week.... Okay, honestly, we LOVE beans, and quite happily eat them as often as we like, but buying meat for a family of 7 was taking a serious bite out of our grocery budget, and it made perfect sense for me to try hunting and better our odds of getting more meat to fill the freezer for the coming year. My first two years of hunting turned out to be more of a learning and hiking excursion than actual 'filling of the freezer'. While I never even saw any deer that I could shoot at, let alone kill one, I did learn many valuable lessons. For instance, never run uphill behind someone who had chili beans for dinner the night before. Following my husband at a breakneck pace uphill while he fumegated the hillside left me with a deliemma... do I breath in through my nose and smell it or do I breath through my mouth and risk tasting it? I learned after that never to cook beans until the night AFTER the hunt. I also learned to limit my fluid intake so that while not risking dehydration, I could still avoid baring my more tender parts to cactus, flies, mosquitoes and rattlers, which never seem to bother the males of our species one bit since they can do most of their business from a standing position.

False Dawn For Southern Europe Turkeys election last December 24 produced a startling result by turningthe proIslamist Welfare Party into the largest party in parliament. http://www.foreignwire.com/south.html
Extractions: NEW areas are turning out to be false dawns across much of southern Europe. In Spain, Turkey, Italy and Greece, the pundits were predicting that 1996 would be a year of sweeping change in which fresh political forces would throw out the Old Guards that had dominated the scene since the 1980s or even earlier. In practice, it is not quite turning out like that. The March 3 general election in Spain had been widely expected to result in a comprehensive defeat for Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez and his Socialist Party, in power since 1982. The conservative Popular Party (PP), led by the youthful Jose Maria Aznar, had been tipped to win an outright parliamentary majority and initiate far-reaching reforms to the economy and welfare system. But the PP captured only 156 seats in the 350-seat parliament and will be unable to govern effectively without the support of the Catalan regionalists. It is a fair bet that the Catalans will not enter a formal coalition with the PP but, as they did with the Socialists after the election of 1993, will offer only conditional support from the sidelines. This is a recipe for drift and uncertainty, not radical change. This is equally true for Italy, where the collapse of the corrupt post-1945 political system and its dominant parties has not yet resulted in significant changes to the constitution or the substance of politics. The 1994 election victory of media tycoon Silvio Berlusconi was supposed to herald a new age for Italy, but he lasted less than a year as Prime Minister and eventually ended up being put on trial. His successor, the non-party technocrat Lamberto Dini, introduced some economic reforms but had no chance of redesigning Italys outmoded political structures. The paralysis looks set to continue after Aprils parliamentary elections.
