ASU has been looking for new ways to market their football program, but I don't think Terrell "T-Rex" Suggs' shaving habits were ever on the agenda. Too bad, because national writers looking to fawn over the red-hot Sun Devils haven't failed to mention it since it was revealed in an ESPN GameDay interview with Suggs and his teammates last weekend. Needless to say, ASU officials are wary of any national press involving shaving.

Extractions: I Can see clearly now [Play Sound] Dr. Stayton - There is nothing in the Bible regarding homosexual orientation. In fact, the Bible does not concern itself with sexual orientation. It does speak out probably against gang rape, male prostitution for religious purposes, and pederasty (sex between an adult and youth). I lead Bible study programs on this subject and am convinced that the Bible does not address the issue of a person's sexual orientation. Bishop Spong - There are few biblical references to homosexuality. The first, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, is often quoted to prove that the Bible condemns homosexuality. But the real sin of Sodom was the unwillingness of the city's men to observe the laws of hospitality. The intention was to insult the stranger by forcing him to take the female role in the sex act. The biblical narrative approves Lot's offer of his virgin daughters to satisfy the sexual demands of the mob. How many would say, "This is the word of the Lord?" When the Bible is quoted literally, it might be well for the one quoting to read the text in its entirety. Leviticus, in the Hebrew Scriptures, condemns homosexual behavior, at least for males. Yet, "abomination," the word Leviticus uses to describe homosexuality, is the same word used to describe a menstruating woman. Paul is the most quoted source in the battle to condemn homosexuality (in Rom. 1:26-27 and in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11). But homosexual activity was regarded by Paul as a punishment visited upon idolaters by God because of their unfaithfulness. Homosexuality was not the sin but the punishment.

Inside the Sunday sports section was Bob Marshall's column, "Publicity not all good," a commentary on ESPN's involvement in bass fishing through the acquisition of BASS I've always been a big fan of Bob Marshall, the Pulitzer-prize-winning writer with The Times-Picayune and arguably one of the best outdoor writers in the nation. I first met Bob when we were both writing for the Gulf Coast Conservation Association back in the mid-1980s, a time when Gulf Coast fisheries were under attack from commercial fishermen, pollution and wholesale neglect. Marshall brought these issues to the forefront with style and class and a hard-hitting brand of outdoor journalism that stood apart from the rest.

But when writer and book-and-zine publisher Jasmine Sailing reads her short story "Without Pain/Without Death" to the attendees of the Death Equinox Convergence this weekend in Denver, not only will Sailing be needled, she'll also get flamed and shocked - and she's happy about it. "I'm basically going to be tortured by a large entourage, and try not to scream while I read," says Sailing, publisher of the zine Cyber-Psychos A.O.D. , and director of the Death Equinox convention, a sort of goth/gloom/techno/darkside gathering of artists, writers, and other fetishistic celebrants who want to transcend the negative aspects of death and darkness by soaking in them. Other events featured at the convergence include panel discussions on "Courting the Reaper" (The whys and ways of failed attempts at death), "Guilty Pleasures" (things you own/do and are generally too embarrassed to admit), an "S/M 101 Workshop," and a workshop on "Scribbling Smut for Fun and Profit." An exhibit of rare spiders will feature such exotic arachnids as the blue tarantula and the African Baboon spider, as well as the largest species of spider in the world.

I hit 17 greens and yet, I had 36 putts. It's pretty amazing that I was able to come in at 1-under for the day. I'm frustrated with the putting because if I had just made a few more putts, I could have had a great chance to make quite a run at it today. I just couldn't putt it in the ocean to be quite honest. I thought the greens would be a little faster, but they weren't. Some were pretty quick and some were slow. That's no excuse. It wasn't the fault of the greens, I just couldn't get the ball to drop.
