While public schools are built on a principle of equal access to education, some observers see a trend toward unequal resources. Extractions: Wisconsin Adopt a Nutrition Professional Initiative This section describes the Wisconsin Adopt a Nutrition Professional Initiative that was implemented in 1996 and ended with the elimination of the Nutrition Education and Training Program at the Federal and state levels. Below is a description of that initiative when it was active. Although the "Adopt" initiative is no longer active as it was originally designed, the nutrition professionals who had participated are being recruited as trainers for the Wisconsin Team Nutrition Training Project. The Adopt a Nutrition Professional Initiative is a way for communities and schools to invest in their childrens nutritional health. Design: This initiative involves the schools, PTAs and other parent organizations, service and other community organizations, as well as the nutrition professionals in your community. Each group has or will receive a brochure describing the initiative and the benefits to them. Once they have a expressed an interest in developing a school-community-nutrition professional relationship, leadership and support is provided by the Comprehensive School Health Programs Nutrition Connection of the State Departments of Public Instruction and Health and Family Services, to facilitate the process.
