Extractions: VRML Datablade Module for Informix Dynamic Server As todays world wide information networks are exploding with a huge amount of complex and weakly structured multimedia data collections it becomes ever more important to provide proper visualization methods for the user interfaces of information systems. Because of the steadily growing availability of cheap computing power in desktop machines, 3D perspective visualization gains more and more significance in this context. By means of perspective visualization, users are provided with an overview visualization and are, at the same time, enabled to focus on a smaller part of the data set in more detail. By now the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) - a description language for 3D visualization - has rapidly established itself as a widely accepted standard for the presentation of realtime 3D environments. VRML supports the on-line application area of the World Wide Web as well as off-line applications in general. Therefore, it is ideal for the integration of interactive 3D visualization with arbitrary applications. Within this context we see a growing demand for a tight integration of VRML technology with already widely spread enterprise level database technology, to satisfy the growing visualization demands of professional office and business applications. At the same time modern object relational database management systems (ORDBMS) provide a basis for extending a database with user defined data types and functions. These ORDBMS are therefore predestined to integrate external technologies such as VRML.

About Vrml When to use vrml and why. The possibilities of web publishing withvrml are anything but limited. Once you have seen vrml in action http://pers-www.wlv.ac.uk/~c9725535/about__vrml.htm
Extractions: Features of VRML Although VRML was developed to be an independent of HTML, VRML depends on the structure of hypertext to transfer files across the network. Thus, everything you have learnt about HTTP and URLS also applies to VRML. You access VRML documents with a VRML browser or a HTML browser with VRML add on module. The URL's to VRML documents look just like the URL's to HTML documents except for the extension. HTML documents use the .HTM or . HTML extensions, and VRML documents use the . wrl extensions. The .wrl extension is used to identify VRML documents called world files. The power of VRML is that you no longer need a $20,000.00 work station or a $500.00 graphics application to build 3D models. VRML enables you to create complexed 3D scenes using a basic PC and monitor you create 3D scenes with VRML using mark up code that defines polygonally rendered objects and special effects for lighting, ambiance and, realism. VRML documents are entirely graphical in nature. The only text in VRML document is represented as an object or within a VRML image the VRML 1.0 specification concentrates on how 3D scenes are rendered in cyberspace. The intent was to create an easy to use solution that, like HTML, would be extended over time. Consequently VRML 1.0 includes only the basic facilities for linking VRML objects and scenes. While the linking facilities in the current implementation of VRML are basic, the model rendering facility are anything but basic. In VRML, the objects you render are modes. VRML 1.0 defines 36 types of mode. Using these modes, you can easily create 3D cones, cylinders, cubes, and spears. Once you define a shape for an object, you can add texture, lighting, camera effects, and object transformations using a few lines of mark up code.

Extractions: Along the way of life, somehow I got into some book writing. Actually, I got into many different forms of writing - including writing standards work and code (OK, strictly not technically writing, but it is a form of art). This has been a long slow process over time slowly graduating to bigger and better things. Presented here is the summaries of all the books that I've worked on from the most recent to the earliest. As you can see, the list is starting to get to a reasonable length. This creates a fair amount of email that is time consuming to answer particularly as a lot of the questions are technical in nature. When this gets to 20 or so emails a day, things start to get into problems. I don't get a chance to answer everything particularly as I am also involved in higher priority work such as standards development. If sending me a question, can you please make it as short as possible. If its quick and I can dump out a 30 second reply, you are much more likely to get a response from me than one that says "why doesn't my code work?". Real Work Java 1.2 Networking
