2-0 out of 5 stars Over-priced Collection of Tinsel Town Lists!
At first glance, HOLLYWOOD TRIVIA would seem to be a trivia buff's dream come true. It brings together 300+ lists on any and all asepcts of Hollywood life. Published in 2004, it is a revised edition of a 1999 English release entitled I WAS A FUGITIVE FROM A HOLLYWOOD TRIVIA FACTORY: A BOOK OF HOLLYWOOD LISTS. Thank God someone changed that title!

The material found in the book's 314 pages is kinda/sorta arranged A to Z by Subject. I say that because the B section, for example, includes Warren Beatty, Biopics, Dates of Birth, Birthplaces, Bizarre Facts, Blacking Up, Body Doubles, James Bond and Boxers. The G section contains Blunders, Galimony, Sam Goldwyn and Gone With the Wind. I guess there's a logic there.

I don't claim to be a Hollywood trivia expert but I did come across some goofs that make me wonder how accurate the lists are. For example: Bogart got his lip scar in WWI not WWII; Cary Grant's given name was Archie Leach not Leech; Robert Mitchum was not a spy behind German lines in WWII; Marlene Dietrich wasn't married to John Gilbert; James Arness did not go from the Small Screen to the Big Screen; Butterfly McQueen didn't win an Oscar for GWTW; Judy Garland didn't audition for the TV version of the 'Our Gang' series; and so on.

I might have given the book three stars had the price tag been less. $15.95 is just too steep for a collection of lists.

HOLLYWOOD TRIVIA will probably be an automatic purchase for trivia buffs. And movie fans will undoubtedly enjoy it. To my mind, it's an optional purchase. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Badly in need of an editor
I like trivia, but this book is so badly constructed I can't enjoy it. It consists mostly of quiz sets of 21 questions each. Inexplicably, question #15 in every quiz is labeled a "Tiebreaker."

There's hardly a single page that's free of punctuation errors, spelling mistakes, typos, capitalization errors, grammatical errors, and just plain odd wording. There are some factual errors too, which makes me question how well the author checked his facts.

Example: He calls Def Leppard "Death Leopard" instead. Sheryl Crow becomes Sherly Crow.

Example: "All of these writers are known for their horror stories except A) Frank Barum B) Bram Stoker C) H.P Lovecraft" The answer: "A) Frank Barum he was author of children's books Oz books"Never mind the strange wording, it was L. Frank Baum who wrote the Oz books.

Example: "Butch Cassidy or Jesse James who's real name was Robert Leroy Parker"

Example: "Horse racing how many furlong in a mile."

4-0 out of 5 stars Think you know the presdents, then check this book out.
We have had 43 presidents and I am sure that a book could have been written with thousands of questions about them, this book only has 101 and I was amazed and how tough they were.

The other books in the series seemed relatively easy compared to these questions. The only thing I saw was that there was no pictures of the presidents and this should be a part of the book.

The book does provide some new material and from the reading I don't think there was a question on each president. Overall another good book to add to the reference library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learn something new each and every day.
You watch the History Channel and you see the inventors and inventions. Now you have book that has you questions about those Modern Marvels.

The book only has 101 questions and no pictures. This is okay but I was hoping for a little more as was my kids. The book does have some challenging questions, even for adults.

One thing I liked about the book is that you could use it as a game and get points for the ones you answer correctly. Overall it was entertaining and enlightening.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice little book about war trivia.
I love history and over the past several months have been reading more and more books on U.S. History. I found this book to be a fast read and be entertaining at the same time.

Like the other in the series the book is limited to 101 questions, and I found it to be written to a younger crowd, although there were a few questions that caught me off guard.

The books covers most American conflicts and wars, but remember there are only 101 questions so it will not delve too deeply to any one area. Overall very good for those wanting to learn about the past.

4-0 out of 5 stars Short on questions but great on history.
Another installment to the Great American History Quiz series of books and like the others there is only 101 questions to work with. The book I found was more trivia type of questions rather than questions about History specifics.

As with other book in the series, there is no pictures and for the young readers this may be a drawback as something are better identified by sight.

Overall a good book for those rainy days when you need something to read or that car trip. The book is great for all ages as I found a few questions challenging.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent trivia quiz
The History Channel has put together an interesting American History trivia quiz that consists of 101 questions with subsequent answers on the next page. This reviewer played a game against her husband as we tried to see who could answer the most over a week's time. The book is fun and enlightening, especially for trivia buffs. ...
