Product Description
The most common cause of thyroid disorders in industrialized countries including the U.S. is autoimmune thyroid disease. The disease process is caused by thyroid antibodies, also called auto-antibodies sent from the immune system that mistakenly recognize the thyroid gland an an intruder or invader in the body.

Over time, thyroid autoimmunity causes hormone imbalance resulting in either hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

In this 6,545word ebook, I have endeavored to provide a study resource on the subject of thyroid antibodies, including my perspective and experience as an autoimmune thyroid disease patient with hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Subjects addressed in the chapters, include descriptions of these thyroid antibodies and how they are blood-tested for, to detect developing or overt thyroid diseases. An important question also discussed, is that of whether or not symptoms of thyroid disease can occur as a result of thyroid antibodies, before hormone levels become abnormal (short answer - "yes").

I, Jim Lowrance - the author served as Thyroid Health Editor for BellaOnline.com from March 2008 to May 2009 and have written over 100 general health articles for Suite101.com, where I have received Editor's Choice Awards. I have had the privilege of writting requested reviews of books authored by other health writers, including Mary Shomon and Dr. Mark Starr MD. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy Book
What a disappointment. All this book does is slam doctors for over medicating. It doesn't reveal any real scams or expose the reasons behind High Blood Pressure, Low Thyroid or Diabetes.Nor does it offer any kinds of solutions.

The only real value the book has to offer is to remind you not to give your power over to your doctor. They (doctors) are not gods and most of the time they are looking out for their own interests and those of the big drug companies.

Pretty basic stuff most people already know.Don't waste your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars all Health care workers should read this!
Written with great humor. The doctor/patient "play" is sad but true. Every person should learn to be their own healer, dont give away your power to anyone, especially a person who has been heavily conditioned to live in a left brain/ego reality.

5-0 out of 5 stars There is hope!
Tired of taking one drug to cover the side effects of another drug? There is hope for this endless downward spiral. The Doctor Is Out is a powerful book that addresses the cause rather than just the symptoms of your health problems. It is profound in its insights, but easy to read and understand. The authors use humor to effectively communicate the true path to health. This is a must read for both patients and doctors who want to get to the real cause of disease. Read, laugh, and learn how to save your health and your money at the same time. Also checkout their website at www.selfstudycenter.org for more health information! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive resource for anyone involved with Thyroid CA
This text is an excellent, multidisciplinary resource for any physician involved in the treatment of patients with thyroid cancer. Drs. Wartofsky and Van Nostrand have assembled a diverse group of experts in pathology, endocrinology, surgery, and nuclear medicine who provide up-to-date information on the many facets of managing and treating thyroid cancer. There have been many advances in thyroid cancer management recently including the use of recombinant TSH, PET scanning and increasing use of ultrasound for detection of recurrent disease, which are all covered comprehensively. Areas of controversy, such as stunning by diagnostic I-131 studies, are fairly presented with both sides of the controversy discussed. There are many practical considerations discussed that are helpful in patient care. As a nuclear medicine physician who has treated thyroid cancer patients for over 30 years I find this text to be the best resource available on this subject. I would highly recommend this book to any physician involved with thyroid cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for all endocrinologists
A manuscript like this is very important. It reviews nearly every topic in the area of thyroid cancer and provides evidence-based guidelines for clinicians to follow.Thyroid cancer is relatively uncommon, although for endocrinologists, it is the most common cancer they will see.Every clinician who evaluates, recommends treatment, and follows patients with this disease needs a resource like this to refer to from time to time. The chapters are easy to read, the index very helpful, and the information very informative and current. It is a perfect addition to the library for all endocrinologists, and is especially useful for those beginning their careers.I commend the editors and all the chapter authors for putting together this excellent book.

5-0 out of 5 stars State-of-the-art in Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid Cancer: A Comprehensive Guide to Clinical Management edited by Leonard Wartofsky & Douglas Van Nostrand is one of the best Textbooks covering all aspects of thyroid cancer that I've ever read. The authors and their colleagues should be very pleased with this second edition and its outstanding amount of information.
Definitely, I congratulate the authors for this valuable contribution to basic and clinical endocrinologists.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book for patients and doctors alike
This nearly 700 page book has a wealth of information. The book is well organized, is clearly written and should be of benefit for both patients and physicians. The book covers the wide range of topics and provides easily understood information about a complex problem. This book should be helpful for both students and seasoned physicians.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not waste money in buying this book!!!!
I was very disappointed after buying this book. Not to mention this book cost me nearly 200 U. S. dollars. Anyway, money is not the matter. If after reading this book it really helps me to manage Thyroid Cancer patient better, even two thousand dollars are worth of that. The problem is that the title is totally mis-leading. Howe can it be called a comprehensive textbook on treating Thyroid Cancer?? For a comprehensive book, like DeVita's Cancer, princple and practice of oncology,Harrison's textbook on Internal Medicine, or Henry Kaplan's Hodgkin's Lymphomathese are the true all time classics or what we call " bible " on these subjects. Concerning this book, I think a chapter onthyroid cancer from any standard textbook of cancer covers as much, if not more than it. Just take one example, it did not mention a single word on how to treat patient with recurrence in neck node or at least give us a guidline for that. All other related topics are very briefly givenand some are not touched at all. I hope Mazzaferri's textbook or other larger textbook on thyroid cancer can actully do the job it should be. A real " comprehensive "textbook for reference for the managment of CA Thyroid. ... Read more

This is a beautifully written, revolutionary approach to understanding and dealing with a frightening diagnosis."

Marguerite Lorenzo, R.N.

She became frustrated that the information about the thyroid and its conditions, especially cancer, available to the general public was almost overwhelming in its depth of detail. Ms. Wolfe dedicated the next two plus years pulling this information together in a concise manner in order to help others in her same condition. Ms. Wolfe means for this book to be used as a tool for knowledge for those searching out information about the thyroid, its conditions, the immune system and thyroid cancer. Ms. Wolfe is a Thyroid Cancer survivor and has been cancer free for five years now.

Product Description
This book reviews current opinions of the role of fine-needle biopsy (FNB) in the diagnosis of both diffuse and nodular thyroid disease and presents cytological diagnostic criteria and histological correlation for most entities. The history of FNB of the thyroid is briefly reviewed, followed by a summary of basic anatomical and physiological data. Its role in the clinical diagnosis of thyroid disease with an emphasis on the solitary nodule is analyzed in some depth based on a review of the literature. The techniques of sampling and processing of samples are described, including the use and promises of new ancillary techniques such as proton magnetic resonance. The main part of the book is devoted to the cytological identification of different cell types in thyroid smears and to the diagnostic criteria, the differential diagnosis and the diagnostic problems of most pathological processes encountered in the thyroid. Nearly 200 micrographs illustrate the cytological appearances and their histological correlation. Intended as a practical handbook to use by the microscope in routine diagnostic work, this book is primarily aimed at cytopathologists and cytotechnologists. It should also be a valuable aid for anatomical pathologists, endocrinologists and endocrine surgeons in understanding the usefulness, reliability and limitations of cytology in the diagnosis of thyroid disease. ...
