1-0 out of 5 stars The cover is the best thing about this book.
The games are too complicated and not very much fun. Buy a couple of water guns and teach children the lines, shots, and make them run and the kids would like it so much more. Not a good choice for individual lessons.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average book is creative but not highly learning-oriented
Reggie has written a creative book with games you may not have heard of (since they are probably not played anywhere much at all except with hisstudents). You could make games on your own, some better and some worse.Unfortunately, this book doesn't really include many teaching or sensiblegames that are frequently played elsewhere. There are also better (moresensible and more fun) games in several other books. But few books forkids emphasize fun and creativity. There should be some learning theoryoutlined so readers understand how children develop and interact. There areno diagrams but there are cartoons which don't give enough information oncourt set-up, etc. Reggie should consult with more teaching pros on bettergames, etc. Other books produced by the USPTA and USPTR (usptr.org anduspta.org) are superior in creativity, drawings, etc - if you can get them. Also Joe Dinoffer (oncourtoffcourt.com) produces some superior (althoughcan be costly for what you get) videos. Check websites. I am a highlyexperienced tennis pro who like Reggie have spoken at many internationalconferences. This book is worthwhile to teaching pros who want somecreativity and inspiration. Parents may find this useful but not forteaching. Still kids should have fun which is the message here!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book but to little clear pictures of the exercises.
I think Reggie did a great job when it comes to creativity what the exercises are conserned. The lack of pictures in the book is a shame and those who are present don't say much. It's nice to have an example to show to your students.
Maybe something for the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Inovative!! I have used these techniques in my classroom!
Being a teacher of students with severe handicaps and a fan of tennis, I have found Mr. Vasquez's book to be revolutionary! His book includes all styles of learning modalities and it reaches out to all children.I have used and adapted Mr. Vasquez's games with my students.I am very excited to tell you that I have seen results with students that, in the past, did not respond to traditional methods of sensory stimulation!Through the use of this text, I have been able to reach those students!! Thank you Mr. Vasquez for a very good book. And please if you are a fellow educator, I HIGHLY recommend you take the time to read this book!!!!! Sincerely, Laura Mageary, Woodland Hills, California.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's great!TENNIS A WHOLE NEW OUTLOOK, KIDS LOVE IT!
What a great idea! Finally a tool that I can use to keep mykids off the streets and into a different kind of court. The rough draft I was fortunate enough to glance atwas given to me by a tennis buff at my club.To bad for him he'll have to get his own copy.To the author:Any Video Ideas?? 5-0 out of 5 stars Zen of Tennis will help your game
I have been playing tennis all my life but never considered the nuances of the sport and the total effect it had on my life.I read this book before a match and it helped me to focus on what is important about my playing, besides the winning and competing, how it is the shared experience of both of us or the four of us trying to be considerate and polite, yet still trying to win.I am a more relaxed player and person now that I know the unwritten rules of the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
I began this book thinking that I would learn all about how I could beat my mom at Tennis, but by the end of the book I learned much more. I learned that technique and practice is important but also having an optimistic outlook and good etitique is too. I learned how to be a classier person and how when I lose or win what to say to the other person and also to myself. Additionally, it was the positivity in my game that helped me beat my mom for the first time ever! This book really changed my life, I think more constructively and encouraging than I ever have and recommend it for people who want to change not only their thoughts on the Tennis Court but also for people who want to change the way they think about everything!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Nancy Koran!

As a newcomer to tennis, I have been feeling a bit embarrassed on the court. After reading Nancy Koran's book, I feel so much more confident in my interactions with my coach and my tennis partners. Questions I have been either too shy or too ignorant to ask regarding tennis etiquette are answered in a way that's easy to understand and even fun to read. Also, I love the pictures of tennis greats and am inspired by their advice!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for anyone who plays tennis

I just finished this book, and I have to say, I'm rather impressed with the wealth of information presented. Yes, the one reviewer who said that included in the book are some basic things like "bring extra balls", but you know, anyone who plays tennis knows that there are plenty of people who really need this simple "common sense" fact pointed out to them.

However, there's a LOT more than "simple common sense" in this book - the author clearly knows her stuff, and she's also brought together essentially a who's who of tennis stars to share their wisdom. Stuff like how to avoid feeling rushed and how to tactfully slow down an opponent is priceless. As someone who plays a bit slow, I got my money's worth on that one tip.

Lastly, the book is a fun read. You can open it to any page and get something out of it. Rather useful in a book like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tennis as a tool for a balanced state of mind
Zen is a state of mind and playing tennis, if well played, brings us to another state of mind. A winning way of life is really a good title for this book. I was surprised to see how much the etiquette spoke in this book can apply to any area of our lives. Presented in humurous, entertaining and original way, this book expose all the different aspects around and on the tennis court.
I also enjoyed the collective of the short presentations from the tennis greats.
Great gift for all beginners and those who have been playing for a long time but never got any answers about very basic questions on the etiquette of tennis. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tennis fans will cherish this book
The life of any sports professional can be hectic and hard on the family. "The Education of a Tennis Player" is the account of Rod Laver, the only tennis player to have ever won all four major tennis titles. With two Grand Slams and a four time Wimbledon champion, this is his story from beginning to end. How, as a child in his home town in Australia, he was always on the tennis court with his brothers to the grinding tours to the off time as he shares being an amateur to becoming a pro. After each chapter the reader will find tips and strategies on improving their tennis game. He shares all the details of his life: how he almost did not make it to his own wedding, wondering if he would be there in time for his first child to be born, and his stroke in 1998. Rod Laver is a very down to earth man and not one to let the game go to his head.

Tennis fans will cherish this book. Originally published in 1971, this book was revised in 2009 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his memorable second Grand Slam and recovery from his near fatal stroke.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bridget's Review
Rod Laver is the only person who has won the Grand Slam twice. All four major tennis titles Wimbledon, US, French and Australian Championships went to Rod in a single year. In this book, Rod shares his tennis experience from amateur to pro. He includes tips at the end of each chapter to help you with your game. Some of the helpful hints apply to tennis only but others can be used in your everyday life.

I really like metaphors and that's how I interpreted some of the information in this book. Tennis fans everywhere should read this book. Rod is a likable person with wisdom to share to all those who are open to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Education Of A Tennis Player
Probably the single greatest tennis book to ever be written. Rod Laver...who both Pete Sampras and John McEnroe consider the best of all time.....is writing this book people! You know Rod Laver...the only guy to win two (2) Grand Slams.

Basically what you have here is the best tennis player ever...writing a book. Hence, the best tennis book ever written.

As far as I'm concerned ( www.RadioTennis.com) this is the Magna Carta of tennis writing.

Crip Notes:
- get in shape
-hustle for every point
-don't ever give up
-The first point of every game is big
-Close out your oppenent

It's frickin brilliant!

4-0 out of 5 stars Greatness with Modesty
This is a great autobiography about Rod Laver, the only man to win the Grand Slam twice.Laver mixes autobiography with some "how to" tips at the end of each chapter. This is an interesting read, both from a historical perspective of the game, and the changes it goes through fromthe amature to the open era, and also just traveling with Rod through hislandmark athletic feat.Rod tells his story in a with completedepreciating modisty that makes you respect the man even more. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Review of the Basics
I already know how to play tennis but got this because I'm so impressed with the "Go" series of how-to books. The video is awesome and teaches you everything you would need to know about hitting the yellow, fuzzy ball over the net.The book is a quick read but why bother?Just watch the video.I also recommend the book, Tennis Strokes That Win.That is my tennis bible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Go Play Tennis : Read It, Watch It, Do It (GO SERIES)
This is a well-written book with loads of cool pictures and a DVD, which follows the book. I found the book easy to read and follow and believe it carries out the feeling of true tennis throughout the book. I also think it can help a great deal with all those answered questions about the simple reasons why you might miss your forehand every time it's low to the ground or why you have problems with your backhand like myself.
The step-by-step pictures of the strokes and the in complexity made me love this book, and I must say I learned a great deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Go Play Tennis : Read It, Watch It, Do It (GO SERIES)
Go Tennis by Rolf Flichtbeil is a marvellous book. I believe this book to be good for any one that wished to improve their tennis game (from beginner to advanced players). I found it to be very helpful towards improving my own game; the easy to follow step-by-step pictures of each stroke, stunning modern pictures and illustration, and easy to read text which contains very valuable information to improve your game made this the perfect tennis book for my own game.
It `s nothing like your average tennis technique and learning book, and hopefully this is what the tennis books of the future will be like. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Federer
This is a Bio of the World Number One Tennis Star from Switzerland. I have kept up with all his tournaments and love to watch him. The book is excellent and tells a lot about his early life.I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in Tennis. Thanks Amazon for having it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as the reviews say
I got this book for my birthday (the new one wasn't out yet) and i assumed from the reviews that it wasn't going to be very good. But I was happy to find out that the book was not cheaply made, the pages weren't too thin, and the type wasn't over-sized. I'll admit that I love everything and anything to do with Roger Federer but, with as much objectvity as i'm capable of, I thought it was a fairly good book. I learned a lot of things about Roger's childhood and early junior career that I didn't know. Looking at him now it's hard to believe he lost SO much back then! It was almost hard for me to just READ about him losing! I still havn't read the new one but in the mean time i'll give this book a thumbs up.

2-0 out of 5 stars No
I'm totally agaisnt biographies about sport personalities that are still at their prime (or even having the potential to achieve so much more, as it's the case with Federer!)

So, I do not reccomend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Overall a Disappointment
This book had some interesting content and details, but overall it was a disappointment since it really isn't packaged well. The type-face was huge and kind of juvenile and it looked as though the publishers were struggling to get to 250 pages in the book. The paper was also kind of cheap. In general it was just not a quality book. I've read both Fantastic Federer and the Roger Federer Story: Quest for Perfection and I would definitely recommend the Roger Federer Story for better content and quality!
