Excerpt: Hip-hop dance refers to social or choreographed dance styles primarily danced to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. This includes a wide range of styles notably breaking, locking, and popping which were developed in the 1970s by Black and Latino Americans. What separates hip-hop dance from other forms of dance is that it is often freestyle (improvizational) in nature and hip-hop dancers frequently engage in battlesformal or informal freestyle dance competitions. Informal freestyle sessions and battles are usually performed in a cipher, a circular dance space that forms naturally once the dancing begins. These three elementsfreestyling, battles, and ciphersare key components of hip-hop dance. More than 30 years old, hip-hop dance became widely known after the first professional breaking, locking, and popping crews formed in the 1970s. The most influential groups are the The Lockers, the Rock Steady Crew, and the Electric Boogaloos who are responsible for the spread of locking, breaking, and popping respectively. Parallel with the evolution of hip-hop music, hip-hop dancing evolved from breaking and the funk styles into different forms: moves such as the "running man" and the "cabbage patch" hit th...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=2024225 ... Excerpt: Stomp is a non-traditional dance troupe (originating in Brighton, UK) that uses the body and ordinary objects to create a physical theatre performance. They use everyday objects to create a musical performance. The term may also refer to a distinct sub-genre of physical theatre where the body is incorporated with other objects as a means of producing percussion and movement that has echoes of tribal dance. Stomp is a skill that can be learned by anyone if they put the time and effort into it. They must have co-ordination and they must be able to work in a group. Stomp is making a rhythm out of body parts and objects, E.G. dustbins, paper, rulers etc... anything that makes a sound. STOMP, a unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy, was created in Brighton, U.K., in the summer of 1991. It was the result of a 10 year collaboration between its creators, Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell. They first worked together in 1981, as members of the street band Pookiesnackenburger and the theatre group, Cliff Hanger. Together, these groups presented a series of street comedy musicals at the Edinburgh Festival throughout the early 80s. Aftemonkey In 1986, Luke and Steve created an eight minute percussive movie for Bette Midlers HBO special, Mondo Beyondo. Between 1987 and 1990, Luke staged, as artistic and musical director, four large scale outdoor events, including Beat the Clyde, which involved floating a drum orchestra on a pontoon in the center of Glasgow; the largest of these events, the Heineken Hove Lagoon Show, involved ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=5893784 ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates that are attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer's shoe. These metal plates, when tapped against a hard surface, create a percussive sound and as such the dancers are considered to be musicians. During the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the best tap dancers moved from Vaudeville to cinema and television. Steve Condos, with his innovative style of percussion tap, created a whole new tap style that he introduced to audiences in Vaudeville, and later to the audiences of film and Broadway. Prominent tap dancers of this period included Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Shirley Temple, John W. Bubbles, Charles "Honi" Coles, Vera-Ellen, Ruby Keeler, Gene Kelly, Ann Miller, Jeni LeGon, Fayard and Harold Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers, The Clark Brothers, Donald O'Connor, Eleanor Powell, Rita Hayworth, Betty Grable, Prince Spencer, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, and Jimmy Slyde. ...
