Myschoolonline Home Help After graduating from Crozer, Martin continued his education and earned a Doctorof land. The very next day he was gunned down in Memphis, tennessee, where he http://www.myschoolonline.com/content_gallery/0,3138,0-353-38-66462,00.html
Extractions: History Activities for Grades 5-12 There were two main sources of learning in Martin's young life: books, and his father, who was a Baptist minister. His father knew that in Atlanta, Georgia, where the family lived, Martin, as an African American, would be treated by most of the city's white population as an inferior person. His father wanted to make sure that Martin didn't come to believe that he was inferior. So, he reminded his son again and again, "You are as good as anyone else." As a young man, Martin had some question as to what he wanted to do with his life. Should he be a doctor, or perhaps a lawyer? In either profession he would be in a position to help people. However, he came to realize that he could best serve God and his people by becoming a minister. He studied hard. He gave his first sermon to his father's congregation when he was only seventeen years old. Martin became ordained as a Baptist minister when he was eighteen years old. Martin realized that even though he had been ordained, he needed further education. He enrolled in the Crozer Theological Seminary, Pennsylvania. While there he learned of the work of Mahatma Ghandi. Ghandi had done much to help India's poor people, who were treated badly by upper-class Indians and the British who ruled India. Mahatma's success was due, in part, to non-violent resistance to unjust laws. It occurred to Martin that he could use Ghandi's approach to help African-Americans gain their just (equal) position in American society.

Charles E. Venus, a consulting economist, says Arkansas "has a very serious long-range economic development problem." The Arkansas Dilemma "We don't have an unemployment problem. We do have a level-of-employment problem." Economist Charles E. Venus "We don't have an unemployment problem. We do have a level-of-employment problem. We have almost everybody working, but not at jobs that are going to get them significant income increases," Venus said. "I would say we have already got security, we just don't have any success," Venus said, 'And I'm not sure we're prepared to go anywhere until we make some basic improvements in our education."

State Higher Education Initiatives State Higher education Initiatives To Support Student Transitions K16 A SHEEO E-Mail Survey Last updated October 2000 http://www.sheeo.org/k16/transit/initiatives-2000.htm
Extractions: Last updated October 2000 In 1997, as part of a SHEEO initiative on state strategies to support student transitionsK-16, SHEEO conducted a survey asking states to identify initiatives sponsored by their agencies that support early outreach and preparation for college. That information was reported in a 1998 publication, Statewide College Admissions, Student Preparation and Remediation Policies and Programs. To update state initiatives, in May 2000, SHEEO conducted an e-mail survey asking state higher education agencies to respond to the following questions: Does your agency sponsor a formal effort to link K-12 and postsecondary education (K-16 or related initiative)? What is the name of the initiative and provide a brief description. When did the initiative begin? If information on the state initiative is available on a website, provide the specific website address. The following is a summary of responses.
