Excerpt: The nuclear program of Indonesia incldes plans to build nuclear reactors in the country to produce nuclear power for peaceful purposes. The national legislative organ for nuclear energy, Badan Pengawas Tenaga Nuklir (BAPETEN), was founded in 1998. The name of the national agency of atomic energy is BATAN. Decades earlier, research on atomic energy was started in Indonesia. Apart for producing electricity, nuclear technology is also applied for medical purposes and agricultural purposes, for the use of genetic manipulation. Plans for an atomic program were mostly shelved in 1997 due to the discovery of the Natuna gas field, but have been revived since 2005. Indonesia has stated that the program will be developed in accordance with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). For this reason, Mohammed ElBaradei was invited to visit the country in December 2006. Protests against plans for nuclear power have occurred in June 2007 near Central Java as well as an upsurge in mid 2007. For research purposes, experimental nuclear reactors have already been built in Indonesia: Various locations have been proposed for building nuclear reactors that will actually be taken into production for the purpose of generating electricity: Indonesia has at least two uranium mines, the Remaja-Hitam and Rirang-Tanah Merah mines. These are located in the west of Kalimantan or Borneo. If these uranium resources appear to be insufficient, the country has the option of importing uranium from friendly nations. In 2006 Indonesia signed treaties for nuclear cooperation with various countries, including South Korea, Russia, Australia an...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=8484297 ... Read more

Johnson Space Center (JSC) is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's center for human spaceflight activities. The center consists of a complex of 100 buildings constructed on 1,620 acres (656 ha) located in Houston. Johnson Space Center is home to the United States astronaut corps and is responsible for training astronauts from both the U.S. and its international partners. The center, originally known as the Manned Spacecraft Center, was constructed on land donated by Rice University and opened in 1963. On February 19, 1973, the center was renamed in honor of the late U.S. president and Texas native, Lyndon B. Johnson. JSC is one of ten major NASA field centers. Flight controllers celebrate the Apollo 13 splashdown April 17, 1970; Gerry Griffin (l) became JSC director in 1982Johnson Space Center has its origins in legislation shepherded to enactment in 1958 by then-U.S. Senator Lyndon Johnson. After President John F. Kennedy made the goal in 1961 to put a man on the Moon by the end of the decade, the Space Task Group was formed with Langley Research Center engineers to lead the Apollo Project. The group would need test facilities and research laboratories suitable to mount an expedition to the moon. In July 1961, NASA Administrator James E. Webb headed the site selection team. Requirements for the new site included the availability of water transport and an all-weather airport, proximity to a major telecommunications network, av...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=177571 ... Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH DEPT OFENGINEERING PHYSICS report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A904163. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The 45 Weather Squadron is tasked with providing several convectivewind warnings in support of the U. S. Space Program. The forecasters use aradar-based forecast technique to determine if a thunderstorm has the potentialto produce a gust that meets warning criteria. This technique, the Echo Top/Vertically Integrated Liquid Wind Gust Potential (ET/VIL WGP), has notpreviously been evaluated for use in the Cape Canaveral Air Station and KennedySpace Center (CCAS/KSC) locale. Additionally, there are two other radar-basedforecast techniques that required evaluation for possible inclusion into the 45WS forecast process. These are the Maximum Reflectivityl Height of MaximumReflectivity (d/H) Wind Gust Potential and the Storm Top/Vertically IntegratedLiquid (STIVIL) Wind Gust Potential techniques. Radar data from 15 pulse-typestorms that occurred in the CCAS/KSC locale were collected. Potential wind gustforecasts were calculated using the techniques mentioned above. The forecast and observed wind gusts were analyzed using visual and numerical tools to assess the performance of the WGP techniques. Results of the research indicated that theWGP techniques could not consistently predict the magnitude of the downburstgust. The average errors of the prediction were on the order of 10 knots andwere quite variable. Because of the small sample size, these results can not beconsidered as conclusive; however, they may indicate that these techniques donot display the degree of accuracy required to be used operationally by the 45WS. ... Excerpt: Kennedy Space Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Kennedy Space Center was created and has evolved to meet the changing needs of America's manned space program, initially in competition with the Soviet Union. What is today KSC was authorized in 1958 during the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The facility was originally known as the Launch Operations Directorate (LOD), reporting to the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. President John F. Kennedy's 1961 goal of a lunar landing within nine years led to an expansion of NASA operations from a few buildings in the Industrial Area of Cape Canaveral Missile Test Annex (later Air Force Station), notably Hangar S, to Merritt Island. NASA began land acquisition in 1962, buying title to 131 square miles (340 km) and negotiating with the state of Florida for an additional 87 square miles (230 km). The major buildings in the Industrial Area were designed by architect Charles Luckman. On July 1, 1962, the site was renamed the Launch Operations Center, achieving equal status with other NASA centers; and on November 29, 1963, the facility received its current name by Executive Order following Kennedy's death. A Saturn V carrying Apollo 15 rolls out to Pad 39A in 1971 on Mobile Launch Platform 1. The U.S. lunar landing was accomplished in three stagesMercury, Gemini and Apollo. The objectives of the Mercury program were to place a manned spacecraft in earth orbit, investigate human performance and the ability to function in space, and safely recover the astronaut and spacecraft. Although Mercury was directed by NASA, launches were from the U.S. Air Force's Cape Canaveral Annex. The first two manned tests used the Redstone booster from LC-5 for the 1961 suborbital flights of Alan Sh... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=16421 ... Read more
