5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Family Story Book
Everyone has stories about their families. Some are funny and some are sad.You can learn a lot about people who share their stories about their family life.It is an interesting book and I would recommend it to all those who are fans of Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good time killer when there's nothing better to read
Story vignettes are like hors d'oeuvres. They pique your interest, but they're not very filling. The anecdotes found in Chicken Soup for the Soul: All in the Family are palatable because they are taken from real-life families, but due to their brevity they fail to leave a lasting impression. Editor Susan M. Heim does an admirable job sifting through thousands of submissions to arrive at the 101 included entries, but the limitations of the Chicken Soup framework produce superficial, glossy tidbits instead of deeply resonating personal accounts.

The stories while divided into sections such as vacations, holidays and in-laws tend to blend together due to a lack of significant detail. The tales are quickly forgotten since many are based on worn-out cliches - the insufferable mother-in-law, the inept father, the doting grandmother. While some delve into serious issues like abandonment, alcoholism and mental illness, most unwittingly reach a tidy conclusion within two to three pages. These easily portrayed resolutions are likely to create a disconnect for the majority of the book's audience.

Yet there are a few that rise to the occasion of providing substance in a condensed format. In "Right from Wrong," author Michael T. Smith states: "I learned a lot from my dad. I learned how not to treat my wife. I learned to give my children love and attention. Dad didn't teach by example. He taught by making me aware of what is wrong." A mental burden is revealed in Marijoyce Porcelli's "Grandma's Beads:" "Somehow [Grandma] let go of that frigid, bitter persona that was her usual self and talked, really talked. Unfortunately, these pleasant lulls didn't last long." The struggle to reconnect with an estranged son is depicted in Marsha D. Teeling's "A Tiny Piece of Paper:" "Why does [my son] hate me? I see him with his children, and I know that at least he is breaking the cycle because he is a loving, caring father."

Some humorous moments deserve a mention. April Knight's family arrives in the Ozarks only to attend the wrong reunion in "Who Are All These Strange People?" Melanie Adams Hardy learns a whole new vocabulary while riding in "Grandma Lillie's Red Cadillac." Mimi Greenwood Knight deals with a husband whose mouth lacks an off switch in "What Did You Say?" While all the mischievous Ben Kennedy has to say is the key phrase: "That Did It!" to cause his little brother to take off running and screaming.

Overall, this is a book for a location where reading options are limited such as a doctor's waiting room or an airport gift shop. It's a good time killer when there's nothing better to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
Chicken Soup for the Soul:All in the Family held up to the formula that has been used from the start.Authors submitted their personal stories that range in emotions and are real/applicable to our lives.I wanted to pick my top ten stories and highlight, but all of the stories are good, just in various ways.Reading this book was like sitting down with acquantances and made privvy to some of the funniest, crazy, whacky and lovable family members ever known.I enjoyed this light hearted and easy read.

5-0 out of 5 stars You will love these books
I love reading chicken soup for the soul books and you can not beat amazon.com prices on these books with free shipping

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes you appreciate your own crazy family!
Something about the Chicken Soup for the Soul books has always appealed to me.I love that I can pick them up and read a story whenever my kids give me a few minutes to myself. The stories are short and always true stories from people like you and me.

The newest Chicken Soup for the Soul book is called "All in the Family."It has 101 incredible stories about family moments that will make you laugh, some of them I dropped the book I was laughing so hard.It is basically a book that I am sure we could all write and have experienced, but it is nice to see it happens in other families!I thought I was the only one with a Crazy Aunt?

I haven't read the whole book yet, but the stories I have read have been great. My favorite story is "Merry Christmas, I broke into your house!"Yeah the stories are that good, think America's Funniest Home Videos meets a book! The stories really are though short (about 3-4 pages each) and sweet and really make you appreciate your own family no matter how crazy they are!Oh and best of all is that the stories are organized into chapters including:Eccentrics Are Us, In-Laws and Outlaws, Family Vacations and Reunions, Forgiveness, Thanks for the Memories, Putting the Fun in Dysfunctional, Family Secrets, Happy Horrible Holidays, Reunited, Brothers and Sisters, and Parents and Kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars I am enjoying the book
The book is great, I am enjoying the humor and honesty, as well as the sentimentality in many of the stories. The only thing which bothered me was the cover. I feel that there was a lot of skin showing on the mom! I am sensitive to immodesty, so I colored up the mom's skin.
Thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars The book is worth it for the Scripture verses alone
Many turn to God in times of trouble. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Women hits its stride when it tackles more serious subject matter. Editors Susan M. Heim and Karen Talcott contribute heavily to this volume, but the "My Prayer" sections following each story highlight the significance of their input. A foreword from 9/11 widow Jennifer Sands sets a genuine, heartfelt tone. It delivers an emotional punch that few stories in the collection can match.

Any time the subject of spirituality is addressed, there is a fine line between preaching and inspiring. Selections that ring true do not tell the reader what to do. They do not end with a happily wrapped-up conclusion. Instead they depict a continuing struggle against life's challenges. Faith is the sustaining factor. These pages contain many personal affirmations that are worth celebrating.

In "Losing a Child," Nancy Purcell reflects on the unexpected death of her 16-year-old daughter. She beautifully compares the fulfilled expectation of spring with the promise of eternal life.

Twenty-five years later, I still think on her truth, her love of Christ, and her joyfulness as I dig in the earth and plant seeds, expecting a garden of beauties to rise come spring. And they do, just as Christ did that Easter morning. Because of Him, I never think of her as lost; I know where she is.

For anyone who has witnessed a loved one dying, the details in Janice Flood Nichols' "Hands Stretched Out" are spot on. The slow wasting away of an elderly parent or grandparent is difficult to watch. Small moments of hope help to ease the feeling of utter helplessness.

As I watched my mother transition from this life to the next, I came to believe that God, in His infinite love and mercy, had granted our family a glimpse into life's most poignant and final journey - a journey that may well be guided by those who have already crossed over. We were privy to a peaceful, glorious transformation.

The editors delve through the Bible introducing each story with a perfectly matched verse. For the topic of relationships, an obscure passage - I Peter 3:3-4 - touchingly illustrates the long-lasting impression of inner beauty: "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."

The lives of many women are plagued by anxiety - worries about children, financial concerns, job instability, etc. The words of Scripture offer a comforting alternative. The editors wisely include Matthew 6:25-27: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink ... Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"

Other highlights include Talcott's "Learning to Love Again" about the integral part a pet has in a household. Heim's "Baby's Breath" is an illuminating reminder to cherish a child's precious moments in times of frustration. Darlene M. Gilbert, an elderly widow, appreciates the selflessness of her neighbor who always makes sure her grass is cut in "More Than a Cup of Sugar." Carrie Ellis goes out of her way to give an elderly woman a ride in the bad part of town in "Waiting for Jesus."

Others fall short in their attempt. Some themes are borrowed from country music songs. Certain endings border on the unbelievable. A few are so simplistic in composition they barely form a complete narrative lacking a beginning, middle and end.

Overall, the book is worth it for the Scripture verses alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Inspiring Book
Love this book there are so many people that have stories to tell and when you are feeling down, you can turn to this book and read how they overcame many obstacles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review:Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Women: 101 Daily Devotions to Comfort, Encourage and Inspire
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Women: 101 Daily Devotions to Comfort, Encourage and Inspire Women by Susan Heim and Karen Talcott is the newest is the CSS series and this one, being just for women, does not disappoint.

Susan Heim, Karen Talcott as well as a host of other contributors present these short inspirational packed stories that will bring perspective as you read each one.

In this day and age, high expectations are placed on women. Attempting to meet (and sometimes trying to exceed) these expectations can leave us feeling detached, removed, and distraught.

These 101 devotions that open with scripture, follow with a short, poignant story and end with a suggested prayer may be just what you need when you've superwoman-o-meter has maxed out.

Find yourself `Running From God' at times, read Lorie Bibee's story on page 35. You may find there is no such place.

Overwhelmed with your daily list of `To Do's", read Elizabeth Fenn's story on page 66. You may find there is no mundane task that God is not willing help you with.

Or maybe you wake up tomorrow and have an rebellious streak. Read Susan Heim's `Feeling Like Peter's" story on page 168 that introducing the idea that you cannot be `estranged' with God and playfulness has a definite place in all our lives.

As women, we need breaks from our busy lives. Each of us can spare a few minutes alone each day. When you come upon those few moments, grab this book and read a quick story. You may find the rest of your day goes much better with your perspective back in alignment.

I recommend this for personal bible study as scripture is a part of each devotional or for group meetings when short messages are in order or simply for those time we need a gentle reminder of who we are in Christ.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Devotional to Share with Others
So far in all my book reviews on the Chicken Soup for the Soul series...I have not found one that I haven't enjoyed. Each has a different way of speaking to me. A different part of life or existence that can connect with the stories.

Devotional Stories for Women is no exception. This is a wonderful light read to enjoy with a friend or two. Each story speaks of a women's personal relationship with God, their trials and joys, it enlightens the reader to the common adversity and mountain top that we can enjoy as women and children of God.

While the book is listed as devotional...I felt if it was more of "devotional light" ...the stories where inspiring but many did not quote scripture or theology but rather spoke from a personal standpoint.

In my opinion this would be a wonderful accompaniment to a more detailed devotional or bible study...Devotional Stories for Women is a great book to set your heart for your regular study or your day.Devotional Stories for Women is separated by topics: Faith, Motherhood, Life Lessons, Illness,Relationships , Parenting, etc.It is easy to find a topic that applies to your life at any given moment. Each story is highlighted by a written prayer that you can use alone or as a catalyst for a deeper discussion with God.

I look forward to passing this book on to other women as I feel that it will bless many hands.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!
I know this book is meant to be read in little daily bites, but the devotional stories were so interesting and encouraging that I just kept reading!I gave copies of the book to several friends, and found they did exactly the same thing! The devotions are well written, but even more, it's a wonderful thing to see the hand of God moving in peoples lives. And it helped me to see the holy side of every day living. This is definately on my Christmas gift giving list! ... Read more

Product Description

Our connection to the horse is ancient and visceral. These humble creatures are mentioned in the earliest samplings of the written word, which illustrates how the human/equine bond transcends cultural and economic barriers. The horse's integral role in man's evolution, society's development and the growth of civilizations is unquestioned; they have been immortalized by Hollywood, cherished by little girls and mourned by warriors.

Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover's Soul is filled with inspiring stories of rescue and rehabilitation, heartbreaking losses, dedication and commitment, and positive messages of responsibility and unconditional love. Readers will enjoy uplifting and humorous stories that depict the horse's intelligence, versatility and intuitiveness; they will discover the horse's healing powers, marvel at the graceful performance of a Grand Prix Dressage winner, be awed by the stamina and strength of a working horse and the athletic prowess of a champion racer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow. Just ....wow.
I love, love, love this book. It makes you laugh, cry, get angry, then laugh again all in one story. There were dozens of stories. The only thing I've wondered is that I noticed over 90% of the stories came from professional writers. Were they then true, or did they just tell us a good story? Either way, a must read for any horse lover.

I am in my mid 30's and I have read this book to my children so many times.Rob peck speaks to me, I guess because we had similar youths growing up on a farm. All of pecks books are real and relate to his families shakar way of life and the simplicity of the time.He his a late 1900's huck finn if you will. Adventurous tale, of a coming of age of two best friends. I first was introduced to Peck in the end of third grade and I have all of his books. I have to confess when I read this book till this day the ending makes me cry.If you read his dedication at the end to REV. Luther wesley Vincent it will shock you!

5-0 out of 5 stars A True American Classic
Soup, by Robert Newton Peck, is a great book that I enjoyed as a child--and I've had the pleasure to read it to (and later with) my daughter.

*SOUP* is the semi-autobiographical stories of two boys growing up in a small New England town.

Even though the town is small, the adventures are big, and Rob and Soup are up for the challenges.

Sweet, funny, thoughtful, generous and touching *SOUP* touches all the bases. It's a great book to get a 4th or 5th grade boy who is a little apprehensive about reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars True friendship in rural Vermont
In ten chapters, which each serve as a vignette, Robert Newton Peck is able to bring to life his boyhood in rural Vermont. This book shows the friendship between boys that most American males have always wanted. In these humorous and touching stories, Rob, the narrator, and Soup are caught up being in trouble because that is what simply makes their friendship and life so much fun. There are some great teachings in these pages ongenerosity, forgiveness, justice, courage, honesty, love, and responsibility. Each chapter is only about six to eight pages long and is introduced with one of Charles C. Gehm's excellent drawings. These individual chapters are the perfect type to be read to children at bedtime or on wet and cloudy weekend afternoons.

From personal experience I know that volunteer work can seem pretty thankless. There's never enough funds, seldom many offers of help, and frequently an abundance of criticism. "Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul" is the best cure for volunteer burnout I've seen. The stories are touching and inspirational, sure to intensify the intrinsic rewards of working to help humanity. One doesn't like to blow his own horn, so I won't comment on the story, Mike's Trucks. However, I would just like to say ALL the other stories in the book are AWESOME! This would be a GREAT Bedtime Story Book or just a book to spend a little together time with your kids teaching them some lessons that they don't have to learn first hand:)

4-0 out of 5 stars It relates to me
Chicken Soup for the College Soul: Inspiring and Humorous Stories about College was a great book. It had many stories that related to me, and they were not stories that would only happen to certain people but they could happen to anyone. It really inspired me and influenced me to be more outgoing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup Is Good for You
Chicken Soup continues to publish sappy stories, but they touch you none-the-less and are always there for a good cry! More importantly, the stories let you know that someone else has had the same or a similar experience. You're not alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I always enjoy the Chicken Soup for the soul books. This is great for a college student, who doesn't have a alot of time to read but enjoys some short real life stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!
As a current college student, I loved Chicken Soup for the College Soul.It captured the uncertainty, exciting, nervous, and thrilling feelings of college and bottled them into a fabulous book.I enjoyed the book because the stories were relatable.Even though I have never experienced many of the situations in the stories, having the stories written by real people made me feel like I could. It motivated me to not only cherish the four short year of my college experience, but to take the knowledge that I will obtain in and out of the classroom, and contribute to the world in positive ways.
Many of the stories tugged on my heartstrings and made me tear up.Other's had me laughing so hard my sister wanted me to read them to her.I also learned how my parents must have felt leaving me at my college while they went home.Of course I was homesick the first few days, but that's nothing compared to the feeling of letting go of a child.I gained so much appreciation for my parents after stories like these.
I recommend Chicken Soup for the College Soul for everyone- those about to go to college, those in college, and those who graduated college. It is an inspiring read- and it made me want to stay in college FOREVER!College is a time to meet new people, learning interesting things, and learn and come to terms with who you really are. It's great to have a book that captures these special moments.

5-0 out of 5 stars a more personal idea
All the Chicken Soup books are very sweet. I got this one and the one for teenage souls for my son. He liked reading the intimate stories about college, since he'll be there soon. But more personally meaningful was a copy of "Words to Live By: A Journal of Wisdomfor Someone You Love" that my wife and I filled out for him, with our own life lessons and experiences. It started some wonderful conversations. I highly recommend it too. ... Read more

Product Description
More than a decade ago, the publishing phenomenon that has become the bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul series was little more than an idea and a well-worn proposal that 140 publishers had rejected as "unsellable." Yet the aspiring authors remained undaunted and continued combining their passion with their 10 principles for "living their dream." Today, their book series includes more than 70 titles in 39 languages that have touched the hearts and minds of 90 million readers worldwide.

In this tenth-anniversary edition, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen share time-tested strategies that will help you create the life you want for yourself, whether it's attaining financial freedom, enjoying more fulfilling relationships, spending more leisure time with your family or a living a healthier lifestyle.

By implementing the steps they've used to help launch star athletes, industry leaders and entrepreneurs, you, too, will discover how to:

Use your "core genius" to maximize what you achieve;

Overcome fear and adversity so you can attain your goals.

Sixty of the most popular stories from the Chicken Soup for the Soul series will inspire you to take action: stories of real people who had the courage and perseverance to live their dream—people like poet and bestselling author Maya Angelou; Erik Weihenmayer, the only blind person to climb Mount Everest; two-time Olympian Marilyn King; Canadian figure-skating champions Paul Martini and Barbara Underhill; and other "ordinary" people who achieved extraordinary things.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dreams do not start with money...they start with thoughts!
Throughout my life, I have experienced many failures and many successes.A friend gave me this book at the height of my failure portion of my life.I was divorced, raising four children on little money and my self esteem was low.I knew one thing, I loved my children and I wanted more for them. This book shares stories of people who, ended up realizing their dreams. It never seems to happen in a blink of an eye, but if a person tries hard enough and long enough, dreams really do come true. This stories inspired me to keep going, never give up.I have now published my second children's book, "Aunt Tami's Strawberry Farm".Am I wealthy, not yet. But throughout this process, I was given so many "breadcrumbs" (little pieces of faith) that kept me going.I will, from my heart say that this book was the start of my believing, "anything is possible".Terri "Hunter" Ward

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Inspiring!
I hadn't even hit the stories yet, but reading the beginning of the book already had me motivated! It really has great ideas on putting your plans to action, and even making those little ideas in your head seem like they can be reality. Definitely makes you think "why can't I?" Suggest this book for anyone, it really helped me get my mind going again when I was lost and down in the dumps about where my life was going.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great One
This is an excellent addition to the Chicken Soup for the Sole series.Makes it all hard to believe that this type of book was turned down by sooo many publishers prior to the first one making it into print.

5-0 out of 5 stars True inspiration
The stories in this book are true inspiration.I have decided to give it to my 20 year old granddaughter, as I feel this is the best gift I could possibly give to her.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Opinion
No book touched my soul (pardon the pun) like this one did. I have read better books, however perhaps none more valuable. The story of the little so called crippled boy and the puppy in the dog store, WOW. The authors let us know to stop blaming everyone for our life. Our parents where probably average, SO WHAT! Get on with it. Many people overcome a tough childhood to become successful. This book is full of such stories. It awesome.

Bought as a gift, and it was accepted with great joy. Very hard to find issue.

1-0 out of 5 stars Chicken soup for the soul: Tough times
While I am a huge fan of Jack Canfield and mark Victor Hansen this book is not their finest work.Inspirational NO hopeful NO.Sad, depressing, and the same old stories over and over again. If I could return the book and give the money to charity or some of the people in the book I definitely would.Sorry but don't waste your money on this one. Three hundred and eight-six pages of the same thing. While I was so hoping to be inspired by this book the more I read the more depressed I became.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pass on this soup
I am usually a big Soup fan but this book didn't do it for me.I feel the title is misleading. The majority of the stories are about overcoming cancer or other health challenges, not the economic crisis. The ones that are about the economic crisis are so edited and short i felt something was left out and they were not very good.Wait for this book to be about $3.00 and then it might be worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Timely Help
Chicken Soup for the Cancer Surviving Soul is an inspiring collection of true stories from people with tough cancer diagnoses.

I was given it as a gift when I was struggling with cancer. The stories were a huge encouragement and helped me find a path to survival.

As a twelve year cancer survivor now, I have and continue to give a copy to anyone I know who is finding themself in a struggle with cancer.

4-0 out of 5 stars More needed
These are the type of stories that we need more of. We need inspirational stories that show the world what can be achieved. There is no one way to heal yourself of cancer, as this book so aptly illustrates, but many!! Everyone needs to read this so that the negativity surrounding cancer can be put into perspective. If these people can heal themselves of cancer then so can so many more. This book is a positive endorsement that cancer does not have only one healing way, but that there are many. We are all individuals and it is time we started seeing healing as an individual thing that is different for each and everyone of us.

I sent this to my mother in law after her stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis. A close friend who is also a colon cancer survivor highly recommended it.My mother in law agrees. She also made the point that it was good to read because it had short stories, so she could read one or several, depending on time and energy availability.I think it probably provides comfort and understanding that can only come from other cancer victims.

5-0 out of 5 stars Positive Spin on Divorce-it's possible!
Yes, the Chicken Soup folks did it! They were able to put a positive spin on divorce. I'm published in this book (The Second Half of Forever, pg. 76) and before it was officially published I heard lots of sarcastic comments like "now that's a must read!" Well, guess what? It's a very good book, though probably more for women than men (although certainly not exclusively so). Permission had to be obtained from every ex-spouse that was written about in the book, so that alone says some good (agreement) came out of the project. It would make a great gift, but probably best for those who have been divorced for a year or longer...probably not early-on when the wounds are still open.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful to a wide audience
The Chicken Soup books are always tearjerkers so I limit myself to reading a few each night before bed.I had not read one for awhile and stumbled on this one.I wish I knew it existed earlier. The sections really apply to different phases and situations.I think anyone experiencing a relationship loss would get something out of this book.It provides encouragement that things will work out in time.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a good one
I picked up quite a few self-help books after my divorce. Thankfully, most were from the Library and I could return them at no expense. I felt so many emotions after my divorce. I wasn't sure what was normal. I just needed to try and make some sense out of it.
As a long time fan of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series, I pre-ordered this book from Amazon. It was exactly what I had been looking for. The personal accounts in the book provided a spectrum of experiences that allowed me to accept my ever-changing emotions. This book made me realize that there really were no "normal" feelings after a divorce. The stories provided different reasons couples may not succeed as well as different relationship outcomes between ex-spouses. The unknown is tough after a divorce, but this book provides a glimpse of the possibilities that will *eventually* come.
For me, this book was so much more valuable than all the other self-help books I picked up that focused on detailing the stages of loss. I didn't want to study my divorce; I just wanted to find some relief from the whole ordeal. This book provided that relief for me. I would recommend it to anyone struggling through the same situation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup for the Soul: Divorcee & Recovery
I found very tender and dear stories in this book that touch my very heart and soul.It was so reassuring to read others stories and then think that "I'm not the only one to feel this way, and there is hope at the end of this tunnel!"As long as I can feel that HOPE, I feel there is a chance for HAPPINESS. Thanks so much for sharing that LIGHT with my soul, it was pretty cloudy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I was divorced 12 years ago and at the time wrote to the Chicken Soup People hoping to find the comfort that I knew would come from one of your books and was greatly disapointed to read that it was "in the works". Well 3 weeks ago I received an e-mail saying that there was now a book for the divorced. I ordered it right away and it came in 3 days. I sat down and read the 1st story and it was as though I had written it myself. She wrote my every feeling, about my pain and heartache, she seemed to know ME and had walked with me through the whole ordeal. Believe me, after 12 years I seemed to get the relief I was looking for and needed. I cried quite a bit that afternoon but it was a truly "good" cry. I read a few more stories and later in the evening went back and read the 1st story out loud so I could hear the words. I can't thank you enough and even though it took 12 years it was well worth it. I intend to get this book for anyone I hear is facing this time in their lives and pray they will find the comfort I have found. Thank you!! ... Read more

Amazon book review
Chicken soup for the teenage soul 2!

This book don't have just one topic it has many different topics and also many guys and girls tell stories about their relationships, also about their friendship, family, growing up, some of the lessons they have learned to. This book helps teenagers out on some of their problems in life. It even tells some of them what to look forward in life like getting their heart broken, and how you might get in fights with your mom or dad those kinds of things. This book was written by nine adults and how many teenagers talk I don't know you will have to find out for yourself but I can tell you there is way more then nine teenagers that talk. This book even has some pictures to sometimes show what they are talking about. This book is the #1 New York Times bestseller. There are 101 and more stories of life, love, and learning. My favorite story in this book is on relationships. It was interesting to read about what girls are thinking and feeling in relationships. I also like the stories that were written by guys. Over all I really love this book.

I've been seeking some good books to give to young people to inspire them - especially now during this recession. There is too much talk of government bailouts so Mark and Jack's book is worth introducing to kids. Each story will show, in a different way, the path to success of very different people.Great, compelling and very personal on some levels.
Well, well recommended.
I'll also recommend some new editions of some very old books that are working for the kids I care about, I think you'll like them too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soul food for the Christian Soul!
Those who don't like these types of books have major challenges to overcome.Cynics etc, don't even bother. However, if you want to get ideas to better your soul, see what others have done to, in effect, 'brain storm' with other Christians, and at the same time feed your soul and keep on the path toward a positive life of God, this is one of the best books - still by far!I've seen, listen, lunched and laughed with MVH, and it was because of the success of the Chicken Soup books that I first noticed him.He is a master communicator of uplifting stories - but more than that he inspires you with actual true stories, (not just 'feel good' emotions). That is why reading his books, or listening to him has such a great result in our Christian lives.

What is interesting to me is what MVH has in common with Horatio Alger, as his books - the novels of rags to riches through Christian values- the Alger books were very much like the effect one has reading a MVH book. Not only uplifting, (all Alger's books are uplifting and very powerful in that way), but Alger always explained in his novels HOW a person was successful, and these were more than principles they were great Christian values, as well as examples that someone could duplicate in a different business and move forward, succeed and prosper by following the example of a Christian character.Hansen does the same in his books, and I would recommend you read all the books by any of these authors.

The Cash Boy: A Classic Rags to Riches Story!
Driven from Home: Carl Crawford's Experience
The Errand Boy: A Classic Rags to Riches Story!
Frank's Campaign: A Classic Rags to Riches Story!
Luke Walton: A Classic Rags to Riches Story!

Thank you Mark!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much for me
Ok, I know CSFTS books are famous for uplifting and helping through, but i have to honestly say..... IT DID NOT do the same for me. I highly admire what these peope have overcome but it was honestly more than I could handle. I cried through most of these stories and by the end of the book I was more depressed than uplifted. Of course this is just my personal experience with the book but I can say that it helps to remind you that you are notalone and even helps you count your blessings when you think you got it bad. I do recommed this book but I suggest you proceed with caution if you are easily affected by other peoples pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gift!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Believing in the Possibility

I am also a contributer to this wonderful book.I've read it cover-to-cover several times and remain proud to be a part of it.As a writer, when reading someone elses work, the highest compliment I can give is "I wish I had written that."I felt that way in this book many times.

One reviewer stated that she couldn't relate to the book even though she has children with special needs. . .that she felt the Chicken Soup people sent out a request and those with no connection wrote stories.I can't speak for others, but I write my stories long before I submit them anyplace.I write them because something has touched me, angered me, moved me, driven the story to be written.I suspect many other pieces were also written long before they were submitted or the request went out.I believe the folks at Chicken Soup understand writer's and know that we have coffers of work just waiting for a venue.

As for me. . .there are times I'm just not able to let in or embrace information right in front of me. . .for whatever reason.Maybe I'm just in a different place, or I'm sick of hearing it, or I'm just not in the mood.I wonder if this might be the case for some souls who deal with special needs children every single day.Are they looking for answers to which the question is unclear?I sure would be.I have invalid friends and I search for those same sort of answers daily. There are none.Only shared experiences which may or may not be welcome and may or may not help.

Yes, I've been in Chicken Soup books before.I'm proud of each of the stories I've shared, but there is something extra special about the "special needs" book because when I read those stories (including mine) I see the beautiful faces attached to them.

5-0 out of 5 stars TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCE with my (typical) daughter as we read this book together
I am a contributor in this book, and I expected that all the other stories would be inspiring AND THEY HAVE BEEN!However, the biggest gift of all was the BONDING with my 11 year old (typically developing) daughter. After all the years I've spent reading her bedtime stories, she decided she wanted to read the stories out loud to me each night. She was very moved by the book. Observing the many different perspectives, it broadened her thinking and it helped her a lot in understanding how life challenges are different for every family. Over the course of the book, I saw how her compassion for others grew, and so did her self-compassion. It has helped her cope with some of the difficulties she has experienced being a sibling of a child with special needs. It was a wonderful thing to be a part of.We laughed and we cried - a lot! Having read this book together and talked about how many of the stories impacted us is something I will always treasure. And I see my girl growing into a strong and compassionate young woman with great leadership potential and a clear sense that a philosophy of inclusion is important in building a strong society where everyone gets to thrive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone in this book!
Whenever I read a book review and someone says they are a contributor, I immediately find myself thinking, "Yep, a little bias there..."That, I believe, is a natural reaction. However, Chicken Soup books have so many contributors, and each writer offers just one small piece of the whole publication.I did write one of the stories in this book, but I invite you to consider my comments regarding the book as a fellow parent, caregiver, advocate, and/or special educator.

Chicken Soup for the Soul:Children with Special Needs includes stories that can warm the heart of anyone.Stories about perseverence, achievement, challenges, funny moments, and survival avail. As a mom to five kids (four with varying special needs including ADHD, tic disorders, limb difference, hypothyroidism, growth hormone deficiency and newly diagnosed myasthenia gravis), I can relate from that perspective. As a special educator, I appreciate the stories of others who are working alongside me to help children achieve their maximum potential.I've laughed at the humor shared by some of the writers, and cried over other stories. This book is more like "Chicken Stew"--a variety of flavors and textures all mixed together to create something special and unique.Just like the incredible kids you'll meet when you read it!

I have used this book as a gift to friends several times over. Many have told me how much they have enjoyed it, and that it's an especially good read while sitting in a waiting room or in the car while the kids are finishing up soccer practice. It would be ideal for a first time teacher or anyone who works with children. What a wonderful educational tool it could be for a high school class!Sharing these stories of triumph with teenagers just five minutes a day would help to dispel so many stereotypes. My 12 year old son read it cover to cover, and is now planning to go into the field of special education. He even took the book to camp with him to read at rest hour!Contact information is available for the reader to connect with those who wrote stories for this book. This is an especially nice resource for a parent or teacher who is dealing with a child with a low incidence disability.

There was a review posted earlier, in which the writer stated that some of the authors had been previously published by Chicken Soup. This is not because the company is soliciting writings from them--it's because the company is a pleasure to work with and very ethical. As a first time writer, I have nothing but accolades to share about this publisher!I imagine the writers go back again and again because of their positive experience, and so many have been touched and inspired by people with special needs.

Definitely a good read--for anyone! ... Read more
