4-0 out of 5 stars Cimarron or Seminole it means the same.
The proper name for the Native Americans in Florida is Miccosukee. The name 'Seminole' is an English mispronounciation of the Spanish word 'Cimarron.' This Spanish word Cimarron was the term used for the Spanish slaves who had escaped from their so-called masters and went into the interior of Florida. They formed an alliance with the members of the Miccosukee tribes. In some instances, there were intermarriages between the Cimarrons and the Miccosukees. When the United States of America (USA) separated from England, many of the slaves in the southern states (i.e. S. Carolina, Georgia etc)heard about free people of African descent living in the Spanish colony of Florida. A large number of them made their way to Florida. The USA government became frustrated because the Spanish authorities were not really interested in rounding up their runaway slaves and sending them back to the USA. This eventually led to what was called the 'Seminole Wars.' The first military act was while Spain still controlled Florida. The later wars were after Florida became a part of the USA. Product Description
Black Indians is a term that refers to people of African-American descent, usually with significant Native American ancestry, who also have strong ties to Native American culture, and social and historical traditions. This article addresses Black Indians in the United States. Certain Native American tribes had close relations with African Americans, especially those in the Southeast, where slavery was prevalent. Members of the Five Civilized Tribes held enslaved blacks, who migrated with them to the West during Indian Removal in 1830 and later. In peace treaties with the US after the American Civil War, the tribes, which had sided with the Confederacy, were required to emancipate slaves and give them full citizenship rights in their nations. The Black Indians were known as tribal Freedmen, such as Cherokee Freedmen. In addition, some black maroon communities had been allied with the Seminole in Florida and intermarried. The Black Seminole included those with and without Indian ancestry. ... Read more
