Editorial Review

Product Description
Over the past four years, the operation of Saudi Arabia's ports has been successfully transferred to the private sector, boosting efficiency and triggering a surge of investment in the country's ports network, the biggest in the Middle East. Already this program has transformed port performance, raising productivity, bringing in more than USUSD1 billion of private sector investment, and significantly increasing net revenues from the ports to the Government. In this book, Mohammed Bakr, Director-General of the Saudi Arabian Ports Authority, describes the unique model devised to deliver the desired benefits of privatization, while protecting the interests of both the public sector and the national workforce. Insights gained from being at the heart of the decision-making process have enabled Mohammed Bakr to produce an illuminating account of privatization in practice. As a result, this is a book which sets out many useful lessons applicable to situations in a wide range of industries. In particular, the demonstration that effective privatization does not necessitate the sale of state assets, is one that should command the attention of informed readers in various Western countries. This and much else in the book recommends it as required reading for policy-makers in both the developed and developing worlds. ... Product Description
This is a very important collection because it consists of internal political telegrams which were never intended for international, or even external, examination. These telegrams provide a rare glimpse into the system of administration and the style of leadership of Sultan (King) Abdul Aziz ibn Abdul Rahman ibn Saud, ruler of Nejd-Hedjaz/Saudi Arabia from 1925-1953, and founder of the State of Saudi Arabia. The documents selected for this set are unusual in that they all originate from a single record class, HW12. The documents in HW12 are derived from wireless messages intercepted by British intelligence operatives at the Government Code and Cypher School, a department that was an intelligence-gathering unit formed in 1919. The level of secrecy attached to them meant they were not circulated within Whitehall and they were only released in 1997, this therefore, is their first large-scale  public exhibition. ... Product Description
The kingdom of Saudi Arabia, ruled by the Al Saud family since its founding in 1932, wields significant political and economic influence as the birthplace of the Islamic faith and by virtue of its large energy reserves. Since 2005, King Abdullah bin Abd al Aziz Al Saud has sought to strengthen Saudi relations with European and Asian counterparts and has worked to build and lead an Arab consensus on regional security issues such as Lebanon and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Recent domestic reforms have codified royal succession rules, begun restructuring the justice system, and updated some educational curricula and practices. An Al Qaeda-inspired terrorist campaign inside the kingdom appears to be ebbing as security improvements and anti-extremism campaigns are implemented. However, the threat of domestic terrorism remains. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars There are some true and false facts in this book.
The auther of this book invetigate only one side of the story. We should keep in mind that always there are good and bad things in any country in this world. I believe the author need to be more objective. For exampleSaudi Arabia a developed country, therefore, there are large number ofexpatriate employment. There are more than 4 milionexpatriate working inSaudi today, hence, I believe that there will some problems. But I can notsay that Saudi citizen treated theexpatriate worker as a slave. In theother hand, the author talk about what happend to some of the expatriateworker in Saudi Arabia, but he did not talk about what they did and stilldoing such as drugs, and crime.Thank you
