Detailed, easy to understand. No mention of scientific research on how effective this program is though.

Very Helpful
I used this book with my social skills class for 6th graders. The lessons and activities are easy to use and understand. I adapted some of them to make them more interesting. The lessons relate to all students no matter race or economic class.

Social Skills
I am a mental health therapist who works with adolescents with a variety of mental health needs, primarily deficient in how to perform socially with others and within community, school, etc. This book offers a simple interactive approach that reaches children/adolescents by incorporating a learning component and an interactive component. So far the social skills group I facilitate has enjoyed the use of each lessons in this book.

This book is great teenagers in a group setting. It provided a lot of reproductable activites which identify the needs of the children. The material was easy for the children to read and comphend.This was a great investment!!!!!!

I love all of the ready to use social skill books. I am a school social worker for prek-8 school district, so as busy as I am, I love that these activities are right there with little preparation!

My only complaint is that these books used to be spiral-bound which makes it easier to photocopy activities. They are not spiral-bound anymore, but either way great purchase for school social workers and counselors!

I ordered the paperback version of the second edition of this book from seller- or so it states in my online invoice... but what I got was the third edition, hardback.I needed the right edition for a class so I had to re-order it through someone else.I didn't return this book becuase it would cost almost as much to send it back as it did to buy...Oh well.

The Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) was an ambitious effort launched inPittsburgh in 1996 to provide high-quality early care and education servicesto at-risk children, on a countywide scale and under the direction of localneighborhood agencies.Its goal was to improve the preparation of thesechildren for kindergarten, promote their long-term educational attainment,and give them the early tools to help them become productive, successfulmembers of society.Initially funded by foundations and private donors, ECIplanned to become financially sustainable over the long term by persuadingthe state of Pennsylvania to commit to funding the program at the end of astartup period.Four years after its launch, ECI was far short of its enrollment targets,the cost per child was significantly higher than expected, and the effort tosecure a commitment of state funding had failed. Bullying is getting worse...this book can really help.
Having two school age children who have at one time or another faced bullying, and having been bullied myself as a child, I can completely relate to this book's topic. School age bullying is a problem for both children and their parents, especially these days with internet bullying as prevalent as it is.This book is an excellent resource for parents to learn how to deal with the various bullying situations that arise.It's well written and understandable, but even better, the ideas presented are actionable.You can learn and take effective, proactive steps to resolve the pain your child is feeling if you apply the methods taught in this book.And for those parents of bullies, there's help for you, too.So many parents don't realize they and their actions may be the reason for their children's anti-social behavior.
I give this book a 5 star rating as the go to book if you're faced with a situation where your child is bullied and they need your help to get through it.

Can't all learning be made fun, a little step at a time?
"Lulu's Piano Lesson" is a charming picture book for children ages 4-7 about a little girl who interacts creatively with her music learning, thanks to her excellent music teacher, Mr. Sharp. Lulu hears many interesting sounds in her everyday life that she manages to incorporate into her piano piece (which she didn't practice), "Old MacDonald." The way to learning music is not so hard after all, Mr. Sharp encourages Lulu to keep trying and she succeeds, with practice! All children who have experienced conflicting desires (practice, or play outside?) with learning music and piano skills will love "Lulu's Piano Lesson." Practical and Useful Information for ECE Students
This book helped me so much when I took early childhood education classes at the community college.It was easy to read and understand as an overview of early childhood education and it followed a logical "Who, What, Where, When and Why" format in the early chapters. Then it actually gave simple and effective systems for doing individualized teaching and keeping track of it, which is a requirement in today's early childhood programs.In addition it gave an excellent appendix of what to expect developmentally from children birth to age eight, AND another appendix that provides a system of time blocks for doing lesson planning for 3-5 year olds that matches up with the child's continually changing and evolving development.This book was the most useful book for teaching young children that I have ever used, bar none, and I highly recommend it for communitiy colleges and also for teachers already in the field.It could be easily used for inservice training.It's my "handbook" for everything I need to do in curriculumn planning now that I teach in a preschool; I would never resell it.Chris Strader SC

Just What ECE's Need
I used this book in an ECE Curriculum Development and Techniques course while earning my MA.I found the information relevant, specific and easy to read.It was not overwhelming with un-heard-of concepts and it was very current in the theories and ideas presented.I would recommend this book to teachers, daycare providers and homeschoolers who are looking to improve their knowledge of integrated curriculum, and those who develop their own curriculum as a guideline book to being successful.

I used this book in my early childhood curriculum class while earning my masters.After reading it, I realized how much curriculum knowledge I learned without getting the theory stuck in my way.
