Product Description
Power Trip is intended to be a guide for parents, athletes and coaches to assist them in discovering the WHAT, HOW, WHERE AND WHY of strength training. It will allow the young athlete, or just any kids who want to be stronger and faster, to do the right things, in the right order and find the right places and people to help them continue to excel and not be sidelined by overtraining or negligent training in the gym. It will help parents to start their children on the right path to better athleticism, whether or not they plan to be a competitive athlete. Coaches will find the latest techniques of Olympic-style Weightlifting on the "Trip", what lifts are more important to do and they will probably find themselves losing their temper or, at least, find their interest stimulated.
On this Power Trip, athletes, parents and coaches will be exposed to what I think are the best exercises to do to become more powerful and the techniques I teach. You will learn, especially using the DVD, which can be ordered online, the best teaching progression to make yourself or your athlete, exceptional at performing these all-important Olympic-style lifts.
Strength training can be a long and costly maze. Money and, more importantly, time can be wasted going down the wrong roads and riding with the wrong people. You will learn on this Power Trip, what to look for in a coach, a strength program and/or a gym when you are traveling through your athletic life. And, you will learn how not to waste your time doing things that aren't making you a better athlete and a more powerful person.
And, I hope you will laugh a bit as well.
Get up early. Pack your gear. Get ready to take your Power Trip.

Product Description
The 15th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster offered a timely opportunity for an expert assessment of the current situation and suggestions for approaches to managing the information associated with the site and surrounding contaminated territories. The great quantity of data coming from the contaminated region was and is very difficult to use without he aid of modern information technologies, especially Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS). Application of these technologies, and related expertise, became crucial to the region's economic recovery and sustainability planning. Given the real possibility of a similar accident at nuclear facilities elsewhere around the world, the development of recovery strategies based on experience gained at Chernobyl, using modern scientific methods and technologies, will be invaluable in the future. The presentations and discussion reported in the book have led to some key conclusions. Image maps derived from satellite imagery are the most economical, up to date and readily available basis for Chernobyl-related applications, as well as for other future applications. The study of soil-plant transfer of radionuclides afforded comparatively much more reliable data. GIS in association with adequate knowledge is a valuable tool in decision making and modelling of contaminated areas and objects. ... Read more

Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A559224. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: An experiment was conducted investigating the use of an acoustic pulse waveguide to collect response measurements from three piezoelectric acoustic emission (AE) transducers while the transducers were exposed to an active nuclear reactor neutron flux ranging from 1 x 10(exp 11) to 2.4 x 10(exp 12) neutrons per sq cms. Material, mechanical, and radiation studies were performed to determine a practical design for the construction of the experiment. Discreet frequency pulses generated by an Arbitrary Waveform Generator were transmitted by an aluminum waveguide to the core of the Ohio State University Research Reactor (OSURR). Three AF transducers coupled to the waveguide were exposed to the reactor neutron fluence and their response to each frequency pulse was measured over time. The recorded data was used to study the correlation between the neutron dose and resulting device damage. Response measurements were also taken in situ during post-irradiation periods to determine if response changes due to radiation damage would recover with time. Data sampling of transducer response was reproducible with a standard deviation that ranged between 3% and 8% of the mean value for all frequencies. Final transducer response levels varied between devices and frequencies, but were consistently degraded. Decreases in response between transducers ranged from 36% to 78% using the average percent decrease over ten test frequencies. Individual frequency response degradation ranged from 16% to 92%. ... Product Description

In this fascinating exploration of depression, neuroscientist Kelly Lambert highlights her groundbreaking research suggesting that important clues to the mysteries of this disease have been in our hands all along. She identifies a circuit in the human brain—connecting movement, feeling, and cognition—that is responsible for symptoms of depression, and shows that when we knit a sweater, prepare a meal, or simply repair a lamp, we’re actually bathing our brain in “feel-good” chemicals. Highlighting inspiring accounts of change and growth, Lifting Depression offers a compassionate and commonsense way of preventing and treating one of the modern era’s most debilitating diseases.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading subtitle
Lifting Depression doesn't really do what it advertises. It doesn't provide compelling evidence that using our hands to produce meaningful outcomes (as in housecleaning, gardening, sewing, and so forth) can cure, or even prevent, depression. The author begins building the case, but then admits that "Of course, I'm not suggesting that people who are depressed can relieve their symptoms simply by cleaning their houses." So, if people can't even relieve a symptom or two by hands-on effort, what is the book about?

Actually, the book is a reasonable attempt to disabuse the public of the idea that depression is caused by serotonin deficiency, and the related idea that antidepressant drugs are an effective and sufficient way for most people to cure their depression. Depression is a complicated disease with many causes and to treat it effectively, most sufferers will need to approach it from a number of different directions.

The author is particularly interested in the "effort-driven reward circuit" of the brain, i.e., engaging your hands in productive, effortful activity that has concrete, satisfying ends (a clean house, say). It is unfortunate that she doesn't have more evidence for her thesis, but that doesn't mean it won't work. I know from experience that when I am depressed, it is helpful to do something active, and doing something with the particular purpose of relieving your depression can act like a placebo: you believe, to some degree, that what you're doing may help you, and therefore, sometimes, it does.

At any rate, those who say that the author must be wrong because they or someone they know is depressed despite cleaning and cooking on a regular basis are not quite getting it. Medication, therapy, and exercise are all proven antidepressants, yet many who use them are depressed. All this shows is that no method works for everyone all the time. The key, it seems to me, is a multi-pronged approach.

So for those readers who are still thinking that depression is all about chemicals, I can recommend this book. There is a lot to know about depression and this book presents much useful information in an easy-to-read way.

1-0 out of 5 stars Be careful with this message.
I could only read the first twenty pages or so of this book. Are you kidding me?A rebuilt vacuum.I worry for the author's student who may struggle with clinical depression.I wonder if she has ever watched a loved one with clinical depression stuggle everyday.I have very close family members who are master gardners, extraordinary crafts people, built thier lives working with their hands and had the darkest depressions. The writing is selfinvolved and selfcentered.Struggling from the death of a beloved mother is very different that struggling with clinical depression.I am grateful every day for SSRs and other medications that allow my loved ones relief from their depression.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for People with Situational or mild depression symptoms
For people new to depression or experience episodic mild symptoms or have situational depression, this book may be helpful.I would not recommend this book for persons who have chronic clinical moderate & severe depression for the the following reasons: anyone who who has suffered depression for much of their lives have already heard all of the provided advice. Depression ranges greatly in levels, intensity, chronicity & spectrums, not to mention genetic dispositions, & histories of physical, emotional & sexual abuse.Chronic depression is a mental illness & should be respected as such. The author has good intentions. I do not receive the impression that the author has worked in mental health clinics or hospitals that would provide a deeper knowledge of the workings of depression. For example, severly depressed people know that they "should" excercise. What happens when people experience a mental haze, delusional & distortive thinking & no energy not too mention near comotose state of being that excercise is an impossibility but the "should" remains as another guilt producing tormentor of the the disease? As a senior citizen, I could provide other info regarding depression & the elderly. To expound further regarding this book would be for me to write my own book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not only for the depressed
This is a fascinating book and her tips are useful for nearly everyone, not just depressed people.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lifting Depression
New ideas to help depression victims---keep your mind and hands busy doing and creating ---it really makes a difference---not instead of meds for most people, but in addition---and for everyone anyway, depression or not--creating is therapeutic... ... Read more
