Readers of all ages will delight in this earthy and wildly fun children's tale that has a big message on the importance of environmental awareness. Moving, vast, and refreshingly candid, Planet Earth Gets Well by new author Madeline Kaplan helps young readers think proactively about their environment and pinpoints how to initiate meaningful change in order to make Planet Earth a healthier place. When Planet Earth gets the sniffles, Mother Nature challenges each of us to retract our gluttonous ways. She instructs the Planet Earth to take better care of himself which means all humans must make big changes about key issues like global warming, the melting of polar ice caps, deforestation and energy depletion. Once Planet Earth sneezes, Mother Nature listens and helps each and every one of us learn how to be good to our dear, old friend. This educational reader is wholly unique in the ways that matter-think globally, think green, and act accordingly! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Latin America
I took it to Argentina and Chile recently. It was adequate, well-organized, and seemed to be accurate. There are a few reasons I didn't give it five stars.

It hasn't been updated since 2003; the section on cameras had the words for film-related items, but nothing on digital cameras. The cover did not hold up well. It's still firmly attached, but halfway through the two-week trip, it looked scratched and blistery. The big surprise, though, is that it had absolutely nothing on laundry or laundromats! I would have thought that would be a must-have for the Lonely Planet crowd. We managed by miming things (ironing, folding) with a very patient laundry worker.

Still, it's a good book, and I'd consider buying an updated version in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful in Central America
I took this book with me to El Salvador this summer, and a friend I made down there told me it was the best Spanish-English phrase book he'd seen (and he's seen many Americans' phrase books, he says).Just a few words here and there that he said were either antiquated, overly formal, or used in other parts of Latin America, but not El Salvador.
Good size for carrying in your pocket or passport bag.Came in handy when I was without my native Spanish-speaking friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Came in very handy in South America
This was a great compliment to my spanish skills.I am not fluent, and therefore, this resource was a huge help.I would not count on just this, as we were in many areas with no english speakers. It was a great supplement to my Spanish I level of speaking.

I love that there were 3 dictationaries: english to spanish, spanish to english, and restaurant terms in spanish to english. All came in very handy.

Highly recommend this pocket reference!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every dollar
I've kept this little baby in my back pocket for two weeks in Peru and it has been invaluable.Simple phrases have allowed me to catch the local buses, order food etc. and generally come across as not a complete gringo.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect size for travel
I bought this for an upcoming trip to South America. It seems like it will serve its purpose, size is just right. But since I don't know any Spanish, I'm not sure about accuracy although the choices of words and phrases seems appropriate. ... Read more

Product Description
The space vehicle spectaculars of recent years have been revealing the full scope and beauty of our own solar system but have also shown that a growing number of other stars too have planetary bodies orbiting around them. The study of these systems is just beginning. It seems that our galaxy contains untold numbers of planets, and presumably other galaxies will be similar to our own. Our solar system contains life, on Earth: do others as well? Such questions excite modern planetary scientists and astro-biologists. This situation is a far cry from ancient times when the five planets that can be seen from Earth without a telescope were called the "wandering stars".This notebook-cum-workbook provides an introduction to those profound and still-developing modern studies. Written by an expert in the field, it is pitched at a level suitable for beginning students. It is designed particularly for self-study but can also provide background support for students attending lecture courses or teachers developing such courses. The reader is encouraged to add to the arguments of the book as the subject develops. A special feature here is a substantial glossary of terms and people which serves as a starting point for further entries. Wandering Stars is a key to unlock the door to an exciting and fascinating universe which is still the object of active discovery. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great classroom resource or science resource for homeschooling
The Time for Kids magazine is a great educational supplement for science, as this magazine on Planets. I've used themmany times in the classroom. The articles are short and to the point, and the graphics capture their attention. It is also very good for special education, up to the 8th grade. Have used it in special education in the 6th grade and it works out very well. Would recommend subscriptions for teachers in the 2nd to 4th grade, but for average students in 5th grade and any classrooms with students with attentional difficulties. Great learning tool and resource. A help for teachers and home-schooling.

5-0 out of 5 stars Make your own solar system
This book would be a good way to introduce children to the solar system. 5-0 out of 5 stars Retrograde Planets:Traversing the Inner Landscape
Erin is simply an amazing astrologer. Her words about retrograde planets are insightful and worth reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The" book on retrograde planets
This well-researched, thorough, and scholarly work is the only book you'll ever need on retrograde planets. It not only explains how they operate both in the natal chart and in transit but the retrograde cycle is fully explained astronomically as well. The planetary myths are recounted in vast detail, facilitating a deep understanding of the archetype and its psychological implications.Lists of famous individuals with retrograde natal planets are included as illustrations as well. This book is beyond complete, extremely well-written, and should be in every working astrologer's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMICROSCOPICSEARCHOFHIDDEN TREASURE
It is an exemplary treatise on the subject.I could not find a satisfying book on RETRGRADE PLANETS in past. None has tried to evaluate the role of retrograde planets. But the retrogression is constant astronomical phenomina. The estimation of strength of every planet is its position. In all charts like RADICAL,PROGRESSED, TRANSITING and DIURNAL still more are to be evaluated to predict.Nothing goes without taking RETROGRADE PLANETS.
Now comes a treatise on this topic. The author goes into all detailsminute and deals with planets in retrograde. It is a blooming Diamond well polished with a permanent shining light. The studious compilation has to be commended for its eternal utility. The style is very simple and explaining.
IT IS A MUST TO EVERY ASTROLOGER A BEGINNER AND PROFESSIONAL AS WELL.
I APPRECIATE THE AUTHOR ERIN SULLIVAN FOR HERCOMMENDABLE WORK IN BRINGING OUT SUCH A TREATISE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astrology Down Under
Erin Sullivan's book, Retrograde Planets, was a landmark of sorts in astrology at the time it was first published in 1992.It was the first user-friendly astrology text/book to really address the issue of retrogrades in an in-depth and thought-full manner.Retrograde planets seem to turn around and go backward from our perspective on earth.During their backwards transit, they encourage us to look at the "under" or "other" side of things, thus the title of my review. We are all used to Mercury's retrograde three times a year, or we should be or at least have heard of it.Sullivan's book doesn't stop there. She considers the nature and mechanics of retrogression as it affects the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and the outer planets as well. You will not find a more thorough or READABLE explanation of this important phenomena.Sullivan also gives a good long chapter to retrograde natal planets and the secondary progression of retrograde planets or planets to retrograde. Not the most exciting writer in the world, Sullivan is nonetheless, thorough, methodical, devoted to her work and readable enough.I give this 5 stars not because the book is a real can't put downer, but rather because Sullivan is a meticulous astrologer who really knows her stuff."Retrograde Planets" should be considered a good intermediate reference volume for the budding professional astrology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Retrogression Fully Explained.....
This book has an amazing amount of info, written w/ great depthby Ms. Sullivan. It is a classic & must be read cover-to-cover. This is one for the serious Astrologer/student, & will be worth your effort! Some Astrology books seem slim in content...this one is chocked full of information on a sometimes ignored factorwhich occurs in most charts. Put your best thinking cap on for this one! Bravo, Erin! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not very happy
I bought this book along with others regarding endangered/extinct species for my 9 yr old grandson. He loved the books he could read, but had a hard time identifying the landscape appropriate for the animal stickers. The book is also bound so tight it is hard to view the entire landscape where the stickers should be applied. If you are looking for just a sticker book it has 100's of animal stickers, but not user friendly or educational, without adult supervision.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hours - Days - Weeks of FUN!
I first bought this book at a local book store probably a year ago (we just ordered our 2nd one today); my son (now age 3) has seriously enjoyed this book for hours upon hours. There are hundreds of realistic (not cheesy) animal stickers plus background pages to place them on. He loves to look at and identify the animals and we have spent hours working on the animal pages TOGETHER (i.e. family time). FUN IDEA: we bought recycled notecards and envelopes and then stuck animals on them to make thank you notes or birthday cards - everyone that gets one later comments on how cool it is to get a card made by my son and I even see them hanging on their refrigerators months later. ...
