Med school/USMLE Must Have!
This is THE book for USMLE Step 1 Pharm Review.It's filled with "big-picture" diagrams and concise captions.The chapters are organized according to major drug classes and mechanisms of action, but unlike the other pharm review books (Katzung/ Trevor's, Lippincott's), there's NO minutia.
The color schematics are useful for reviewing more complicated signaling mechanisms (Beta and G protein-coupled receptors).I kept it open while reviewing answers to practice questions, and it quickly cleared up any confusion.
There are especially high yield chapters on antibiotics, cholinergics, and chemotherapy drugs-exactly what gets tested on the boards.Tables that show microorganisms and appropriate antibiotics are better than the ones in Micro Made Ridiculously Simple.Every section also has boxes showing the MOST relevant side effects.I highly recommend this book; you'll get points on the exam and even remember the drugs when the test's over... and you're in the clinic! ... Great Pharm book
I love this book!It is a great compliment to the text that I am using for my Paramedic class.It was a required text for class, but I really like the book.It is easy to read and the information is not only interesting but easy to understand.
This book has helped enhance my learning in my studies to becoming a Paramedic.

Excellent Reference
This book was required for my pharmacology class for paramedicine.It's an excellent text book, but watch for several misprints on drug dosages, (ex: milligrams instead of micrograms on drips).It made me pretty confused when the book indicated my calculations were incorrect when I knew I had the correct dose.I brought it to the attention of my teacher (retired medic) and he confirmed the misprints.Besides that, and excellent text.

Excellent resource for post-graduate training
In my opinion, this is the best book on general principles without going into detail on specific therapeutic areas. I would consider it a must-read for those in clinical pharmacology post-graduate training or those working in clin pharm. However, previous knowledge of pharmacology is needed, as this book is not suitable as a first primer for medical and undergrad students.

Not just a drug book
I bought the workbook and the text book as I am a teacher as well as a clinician. This book explains the chemical actions of the medications. It assists the reader to link the pathophysiology with the drugs mode of action. I love it. My post graduate nursing students say great, but complex. Its not a light read and if all you want to do is look up a drug dont bother. This is a pharmacology book that is more than a drug dictionary.

Review of Principles of Pharmacology
I thought this book had a bit to much detail to use while studying pharmacology during Basic Sciences. There are other books that will cover the essential things you need to know in fewer pages.
I did like the fact that this book provides on-line access, and the charts at the end of each chapter provide excellent summaries.

Good Supplimental Pharmacology Text
This book can help you get a handle on important concepts in modern pharmacology. The organization is sensible and the writing/editing is above average. I must admit that Goodman & Gilman's (G&G) "The Pharmacological Basis of THERAPEUTICS"is a more comprehensive book that I plan on keeping for a long time. However, G&G can be difficult to read if you have not seen its material previously. Thus I think that this book is a highly appropriate learning tool. So if you are a professional Pharm.D. student, this book can/will help you, but you will need to master the content to a more detailed degree to succeed (get G&G 11th+ ed). That being said, this book will still benefit you greatly. Also, if you are a student or curious person whom wants to know how drugs work, this book should cover all your basic needs.

This book should be all that a M.D. or R.N. student should need (specialist excluded) to make it through their training. Absolute genius students can get by without this book, but they will still have to read something. The book is quit clinically oriented and covers most of the first-line therapeutics with examples. It does not provide much medicinal chemistry (not this books job anyway). The end of chapter drug summaries are helpful. One of my personal favorite properties of the book is that it errs on the side of redundancy, if two concepts are intimately connected in different chapters, without being verbose (like me). This book does not cover pharmacokinetics past what is clinically relevant (no math to speak of), unless the kinetics of the drug are highly important in predicting its pharmacodynamics. I have not used the book's online resources. The one thing I must restate is this: this book is not an exhaustive authority on all things pharmacological, but is a helpful learning tool to get up to speed for clinical practice in typical situations. I consistently use this book as a helpful tool as a Ph.D. candidate pursuing a dual specialization in pharmacology and toxicology. I purchased the book through Amazon.

Required Reading
This textbook is required reading for the Pathobiology and Therapeutics course at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.Seems to include all the important details and more..

not enough detail
This book is good to learn basic drug mechanisms but it doesn't distinguish between different drugs of a single class.

Great Pharmacology refresher
I first used this book in my undergraduate nursing program. It was of great assistance in learning at that time, and I recently purchased this edition to be able to refresh my memory on the ways medications work that I don't commonly prescribe, now that I am a Nurse Practitioner. It is also a great resource to use when explaining pharmacology to co-workers and even patients.

Every piece of information "Medical Pharmacology at a Glance" gives you is vital. It figures out the big problems most students face when studying pharmacology:
Which of this huge amount of data is really important? Which concepts I must never forget?.
The book is very concise, but believe it or not, at the same time is much more understandable than many other extense texts.Besides, diagrams definitely allow you to get a much more integrated view of every topic.
What is more, this text is great for reviewing the subject, it's amazing how many essential drugs it covers.

Comprehensive Primer for Medical Students
This is an excellent intro to Pharmacology for first-year medical students. It's a quick read for those who have taken their basic physics, chemistry and biology. It is very comprehensive from the basic mechanisms to the latest in gene therapy. It is not detailed enough to be a clinical reference on the wards, but that is not its purpose. If starting from scratch in Pharm, this would be a good adjunct to buy for first-year courses. I would recommend one of the giant Pharm texts to use as a more detailed reference.

Excellent more detailed overview, but not a review book.
I think the book is detailed on a level that some medical students might find necessary for their coursework.Its level of detail is intermediate - its somewhere between the massive amount of information contained in Goodman & Gilman's and the paucity of information in a review book such as High-Yield Pharmacology.Unfortunately, I think the level of detail is just slightly greater than what I needed during my medical school pharmacology course.I would be more likely to recommend a review book with slightly less detail such as Lippincott's Illustrated Review of Pharmacology.The approach taken by the book, however, is excellent - the order and presentation of the material is logical.Brody's Human Pharmacology is a comprehensive textbook that provides a great deal of information in a clear, thorough manner using numerous visual aids.This textbook covers anything one could expect to need for an introductory-intermediate pharmacology course.I found the presentation of the material to be very helpful, the explanations were clear and easy-to-understand in a not so easy-to-understand subject.The main limitation of the text lies in the amount of the information and the focus - which is more focused on basic science rather than clinically-focused information. ... Great book
I love this book. This is my guilty pleasure in my nursing program. This is one of the few textbooks I do the required reading from. The book is set up for student success and understanding. The headings for the paragraphs give you the punch line, then you read the paragraph (so you get the main point straight up and then expound upon the knowledge). The punchlines are also great for skimming, if that is your thing. It explains the biology and mechanisms of action for classes of drugs. Then it gives you prototype drugs and their mechanism of action, uses, side effects, and contraindications (all the while, applying it to what you just read).

Pharmacology Demystified
Fabulous! I wish I would have known about Pharmacology Demystified from day one of Nursing school. I recommend this book to all Nursing students and instructors.It is definitely worth every penny.

This author knows his stuff.
As a student, I found this book extremely helpful. It removes a great deal of confusion, enabling the reader to truly understand the concepts. I found this very helpful. I liked the fact that there were quizzes at the end of each chapter (great for review or just to get key points) and a final exam at the end.

Still Mystified
I bought the book with the intent to fill in gaps in my knowledge.When I recieved the book a few weeks ago, I glanced at it for ten minutes and noticed many spelling errors and what I consider to be a couple serious content errors.For example: On page 283, the phrase "fight or flight" has been split by the author to describe both sympathetic (fight) and parasympathic (flight) responses, (the author does indicate that this isn't entirely sensible).However, the physiologist, Walter Cannon, coined the phrase "fight or flight" in the early 1900's to describe just the sympathetic response of the autonomic nervous system (your body is stimulated to deal with danger -- to fight or run away).Likewise the phrase "Rest and Repose" can describe the parasympathetic response.If I had been unaware of this basic physiology this book would have confused me about the basic understanding of the autonomic nervous system.

Because I found content error in the information I do feel I know, I am hesitant to trust the content of the book which would be new to me. ... Read more

This book is a good introduction to pharmacology
This book is a good introduction to pharmacology ... well that is if you can see through all the miscalculations that the author's make when converting from the metric system to other measuring systems. For instance: the authors claim that 44 pounds divided by 2.2 equals approximately 21 when the correct answer is exactly 20 (question 3 - 27). In the back of the book the author's claim that 1 grain equals 60 mg which is correct but then it gets interesting, they claim that 15 grains only equals 900 mg when the correct answer is 15 x 60 mg = 1000 mg. They even claim that 1 gram equals 900 miligrams - anybody in Europe know that the correct answer is 1000 miligrams. Math must not be the author's best feature.

This book is helpful review for SOME pharmacology... the only problem is, it doesn't go into great detail in the review portions. And it doesn't have a section on psych drugs. But there are about 15 different tests all on pharmacology, and the practice questions are very helpful.

Condition was as described, but definitely not better than expected. Ordered for a summer class and new edition already out, so over-payed for this book. Can't sell back to vendor or school buy back programs.Might try to sell on e-bay... but lost money. Did make an A in the class though. Shipping not fast, but not slow either.

this is the first edition. It does have different with the 2nd ed. but the basic concept is the same. and it is muuuuuch cheaper than 2nd ed.

Strong Overview
As a paramedic student taking an intro pharmacology course on the side, I found this text to be quite applicable. The overview of conditions prior to the explaination of current drug therapy provides a suffient reference for the reader to understand the basics of why certain pharmacological therapies are used. Concise & Informative
pharmacology was a subject that my brother, my sister and even my mom all had a hard time with. this book was very clear-cut on info about different drugs i had to study (dosage, effects on different age groups, drug interactions, etc.) without a lot of dancing around like most textbooks do. has case studies within the chapters which are pretty interesting to read (but they usually only cover the effects of 2-3 drugs most of the time). not too many bad things to say about this book. i suppose the size and weight of it can be somewhat intimidating, but that goes for most science books.

RC Pharmacology
Rau's Respiratory Care Pharmacology has been the gold standard for respiratory care pharmacology for many years.It is easy to understand.The illustrations are well done.There is a workbook that is a complement for this text and makes it easier to process the information.I am teaching an online class in Respiratory Care Pharmacology and this is the text I use. The self assessment questions at the end of the chapter make it easy to assess learning. The list of references also give us Key Points that help us to focus on particularly important information.

Excellent book - read before Exams!
This is a fine text for the subject.It is very thorough in content, well organized, has self test questions with some answers, and includes a CD if you prefer the computer to the paper.The content is almost overwhelming, expecially for just in 1 semester.I would like to have more time to read this book slowly and digest it.I will not be re-selling mine; will go over again before National Board Exam.Also tells you how to read a prescription and calculate dosages based on percentages, reading labels, review of the metric system, etc. The reading is informative, a little bit dry, but certainly manageable. Worth the price as a new book.

Excellent review material
Excellent review material for The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics. A must read for Advanced Practice.

Highly slanted version
I bought this thinking it would make a great reference book.The full is edition is bulky and heavy (at over 8 pounds versus 2 lbs for this version).However, this was an entirely different book altogether.It read more like a pharmaceutical company version.I found many inaccuracies and claims about drugs that were not supported and certainly not included in the full version.

For example, the section on managing dyslipidemia presents a very statin-centric view and dramatically downplays the adverse effects of statins.Most readers are probably not aware that when pharmaceutical companies run clinical trials on new medications, they first pre-screen potential candidates to eliminate those who do experience adverse reactions.In doing so, they can drastically reduce the incidence of side-effects.

If you're looking for an objective examination of pharmacology, stick with the full version.

excellent book
Absolutely enjoyed reading the book. Not cluttered like the big Goodman Gilmans with too much of detail. Much better than, most pharmacology books out there. Provides just the right amount of detail for medical students who want to have good knowledge of pharmacology, and before i forget it is easy to carry around as well.Good job done by the publishers all in all. Wish it was available on kindle as well.

Great book
My friends and I call this book the Baby Goodman cause its a lot smaller than it's bigger counterpart! The other one weighs many pounds and has an extreme amount of detail which is very good too, but this version is nicer for studying and for quick consults, I use it a lot for my pharmacology class in med school, and I'm not dissapointed.

Pretty Much Amazing!!!
This book is concise and exactly what you want if you really want to study pharmacology.It is an "edited" version of the 45 pound, full-size book, but I haven't felt like I was missing out on material.I can carry it around with me to class and back home, which means that I actually use it.It includes all the important diagrams and tables that you need.The only problem I have come across is needing to find a specific reading assignment based on page numbers (I can figure it out using the chapters though).But it is cheaper, which always matters! ...
