Product Description
Explores the fascinating story of how the concepts of empty space, vacuum and the void reveal an incomprehensibly alien landscape in which all of existence is imbedded.

Patterns in the Void examines the great dark matter and dark regions that pervade the universe, from elementary particles to the immense areas of "vacuum" that make up most of deep space, and everything that is - or is not. Like the void itself, the book ranges in temporal and spatial scales - from our human world, down to the molecular and sub-atomic world, and up into the farthest reaches of the expanding universe. Complementing such recent books as K.C. Cole's The Hole in the Universe and Lawrence Krauss' Quintessence, Patterns in the Void weaves the human element into understanding this modern science, telling stories of ancient sacrifices, paranormal experiences, purported alien abductions, and more - all part of the human dilemma to make sense about the vast unknown. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Seller!
Excellent and FAST shipping and receipt of this item.Seller was as good as promised!

3-0 out of 5 stars 75% Doom & Gloom, 25% Science
As an avid reader of popular science books I don't think I've ever come across a book such as this one.Which could have been refreshingly different from the plethora of books about string theory, but instead, it was more of a personal account of doom & gloom.

Granted tragedies strike everyone, & its sad to hear the author lost his brother, but at the same time, its hard to see the relation to physics in all this. The book starts off talking about gruesome tales of human sacrifice & in one instance gives a detailed description of an actual historical torture event...where the family of a woman demanded the woman to admit she was possessed by a demon. When she didn't admit to the fact, she succumbs to a pretty horrific demise.

Perhaps the author felt compelled to tell these stories because the void is a "dark" subject to some & certainly so it is, in the Western world.Odenwald does go on to talk about the primal fears of our ancestors, but all this simply took up too much of the book.Extremely disappointing are the chapters on dark matter & dark energy. In which maybe a page or two at most were actually about the subject & the rest was personal stories or historical stories of the primal fear.

Overall, the book does deserve three stars.Because there are a few golden nuggets of knowledge laced throughout the text.It would perhaps be more interesting to those who follow psychology, sociology, & other related fields.Once again, its not a bad read, but its just not what I expected either. With all the other popular science books out there, I don't think Sten Odenwald will be the first person on the list I'll search for, but I'd also be willing to try another book of his.

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs better editing and more focused writing
I bought this book to learn about vacuum / zero-point energy and perhaps, dark matter and the accelerating expansion of the universe. Certainly all of these seemed likely to be covered, based upon the jacket and in fact, all these are touched upon, but not very well.

I did not find the book too helpful. The personal anecdotes that preface each chapter are neither illuminating nor particularly original and break up the train of thought. Most science books are organized according to a pattern. This could either be the chronological order in which the discoveries were made, the sequence of events following the Big Bang or perhaps chapters could be arranged in order of complexity of the concepts discussed, sequentially stacking them one on another. Here the organization is somewhat haphazard and there is a lot of repetition. The author is fascinated by the beliefs of the Incas and by the workings of the brain as described in V S Ramachandran's book Phantoms In The Brain. Neither of these topics has much to do with the subject matter.

The word "void" is used here far too loosely: in a philosophical or almost mystical sense. Particles created by human endeavor are said to come from the void. Yet most readers would probably not give that status to particles created in a physics experiment by the application of enormous amounts of energy within the experimental apparatus. This is hardly producing something out of nothing. The creation of a new universe from the old would be a natural example of creation from the void. If we could tap into a source of energy from the vacuum (in excess of that needed to extract it), that too would impress me that something had been created from the void. Alas, here the claims are made for far more mundane phenomena.

The last chapter is probably the best and addresses some philosophical issues. Unfortunately, these same thoughts appear in earlier chapters and disrupt the progression of ideas. They would have been better left entirely until the end. Maybe the book needed a better editor.

What I did get out of the book is that empty space (aka the void) is space-time which is the same thing as gravity (there being no way to separate them). The structure of gravity at the Planck length is mysterious but presumably it has embedded within it (or itself gives rise to) various fields that manifest as matter. In general, it seems that matter (contrary to intuition) may not be a distinct and separate entity from space-time. Instead of matter deforming empty space, giving rise to gravity and so space-time, the book appears to contend that it is the other way around. The chicken comes before the egg.

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterful Blend ofCosmology and Psychology
I am a "Professor Emeritus" of psychology and computer science who, thirteen years after formal retirement, still teaches my physics department's "Modern Astronomy" course."Patterns in the Void" is the first, of the many books which attempt to explain "Cosmology," that I have felt comfortable in recommending to my undergraduate students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Troubling, a New Creation "Myth"
The ancient mystics have long talked of the primacy of the Void as the source of everything. It seems that modern science has arrived at much the same conclusion.
I was struck over and over how much what Odenwald described parallels what I've read in Buddhist, Hindu, or Taoist Myth or philosophy.
The one leap he (and science in general) doesn't, perhaps CAN'T, make is to attribute some intention to our presence in the universe as self-aware observers of it.
There can perhaps be no "proof" of such intention that would ever satisfy a scientist; and the mystic does not need or want it, his or her experience is proof enough. ... Read more

I found the book an absolute delight! It cleared and confirmed so much for me around the metaphysical vs. spiritual. The whole book resonated with me deeply. It also was a joy to hear of her life and passing in her own words. I highly recommend this book to anyone on the spiritual path and or who simply loved and felt a kinship to Diana in someway.

Product Description
Spiritual Love is Eternal and fate has chosen the Sensitive to share this love with all of humanity and to share a world destiny and vision with all the people of the earth.

The Sensitive is a story based on a man who is caught up in a major scheme of destiny…it is also a story that takes you out of this world and into the realms of the mystical, magical, and into the eternal domain of the soul.

The Sensitive is a love story, about a man and a woman who have loved each other throughout the ages of human history…two lovers reborn to find each other once again here upon the earth…as a part of a World Event.

He is chosen by fate to enter the world of mystical power, to observe a Great Occurrence that will happen in a higher dimension than that which we live in.

She is the most important part of that fate, as she is the one who must guide him through his preordained future.

He is taught to go into his past and to leave his body, and to travel through other times and dimensions with only his energy body. These abilities that he learns are tracked by modern technology that allows others to see and hear all the sounds and visuals, which he experiences in his inter-dimensional travels.

She, already of great intuition and vision, is the strength and the love he will need to become the “Eyes of the World” when the great event takes place…

4-0 out of 5 stars The Sensitive
I was searching for some new books to read as I have recently been learning about Inter-dimensional travel, astral projection, and metaphysical elements. I came across this book "The Sensitive" ...read the keywords and thought I would give it a try. I just recently finished the book and it dealt with a lot of the things I've recently been learning about as stated above...a great fun and intriguing story for all of the family. I think the most delightful thing about the story is there is no conflict of any kind, but yet it still keeps you interested and intrigued all the way to the end.It leaves you with an impression that it would be great if our world could actually have something like this happen to it...and for those truly faithful and believer's...it's very easy to see that it can and will. I give it a 4.5 star rating...and will be looking for more books from this author.

By the way...it is also a beautiful love story about two people who are here on earth again, together, who are part of a great OCCURRENCE that will come to all of the world.

Actually, it is a Metaphysical Love Story that deals with Re-incarnation and Astral Projection that seems very Sci-Fi but with a great sense of reality to it. My wife is now reading the Book and she said she really likes it.

I recommend this Book to everyone and I recall seeing on the Credits that there is a Narrator, so I have been looking for the Audio Book...but cannot find it. Can anyone help?

5-0 out of 5 stars Nonlocal Psi Experiments
Your skepticism will melt away as you study these experiments in Psi.Fact is stranger than fiction, we have arrived at "quantum consciousness", still unexplained, but functioning in many ways and many people.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware - reprint of an old book
I purchased this took and then found that it was just a reprint from several decades ago

5-0 out of 5 stars Compelling scientific evidence for ESP
Initially, I was doubtful of the existence of psi phenomena. My AP Psychology course gave me the impression that there was scant data to validate the field. However, knowing Dr. Harold Puthoff both personally and professionally, I was willing to put my doubt aside and investigate the work that he and others have conducted in parapsychology.

Although a compilation of scientific reports first published in the 1970's at the IEEE Symposia On The Nature Of ESP, what I can say for certain after reading this book is that the studies compiled by Puthoff, Targ, and Tart, not only demonstrate that an anomalous statistical phenomena is occuring, but such works, especially the Targ-Puthoff remote viewing studies, such as "A Perceptual Channel for Information Transfer over Kilometer Distances...," clearly dispel the flawed criticisms put forth by Ray Hyman in the National Research Council (NRC) evaluation of the CIA's 24 years in remote viewing research.

The studies conducted at Stanford Research Institute are clearly displayed, with the entire methodology presented. Counter arguements are even given towards the critiques that the studies, amazingly, continue to face from CSICOP and James Randi. And though I am member of CSICOP, this criticism through ignorance is very troubling to me.

Replications of such studies are also presented in the work of Jahn and Dunne of the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research laboratory (PEAR), a group that I have recently become affiliated with. Various theories of psi are also presented in the works of Michael Persinger, Charles Tart, Helmut Schmidt and many others. After reading this book, it will be impossible to deny the existence of an anomalous statistical and possibly cognitive phenomena, without betraying one's intellectual honesty.

This book is required reading for all who are interested and willing to evaluate parapsychology from a serious, scientific point of view.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Scientific Studies of Phenomena Considered to be ESP
A lot of loose talk circulates about various ESP phenomena with the consequence that many do not believe they even exist. But drowned in all the loose talk is a lot of serious scientific investigation that has demonstrated the reality of some of these phenomena under controlled scientific conditions, many done under double-blind protocols.

Harold Puthoff and Russell Targ, at Stanford Research Institute, probably the #2 scientific "think tank" in the U.S.A., did many of these studies beginning in the early 1970s under the sponsorship of several three-letter agencies concerned with national defense. This book is basically a reprint of many of their scientific reports, first published in the IEEE Symposia On The Nature Of Extrasensory Perception.

I found the scientific study to be much more interesting than the shallow gee-whiz stuff often found in the popular press. To give a taste of the book, I list some of the chapter titles:

2.) A Perceptual Channel for Information Transfer over Kilometer Distances... by Puthoff and Targ.
3.) Direct Perception of Remote Geographical Locations.
4.) Multiple Subject and Long-Distance Precognitive Remote Viewing of Geographical Locations [replicates the work of Puthoff and Targ at SRI at another institution by other investigators, validating the earlier work]
5.) EEG Correlates to Remote Light Flashes Under COnditions of Sensory Shielding

11 Chapters and a lengthy Appendix gy Robert G. Jahn who was Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton University at the time he wrote it.

I highly recommend this book to those interested in these things from a scientific point of view instead of a mystical one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This book clarifies the principles behind all religions and philosophies in a most elegant way.
Without too many attempts to convince readers, the Kybalion lays out seven principles that can be easily applied to any area of life;health wealth relationships, any area of life. If applied to a religion or a science, it will clarify the meaning of a written passage or an experiment.
While the book does offer explanations, it is really meant to be experimented with and applied to life. For example, the Principle of Vibration states "Nothing rests; everything moves" and then the authors explain how things that may not have been considered motion before actually are forms of motion.
Although the Kybalion tends to lean on scientific examples, I found the book to be very spiritual in nature. Without question one of my favorite books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the Best Primer on Basic Hermetic Philosophy Available
This book is, to my mind, still the best primer on Basic Hermetic Philosophy available. It's coverage of the Seven Fundamental Laws of Hermeticism is timeless. It also adds seven related Axioms which are of very practical use in implementing the seven laws in one's life. Indeed, the seven axioms are strikingly similar to the knowledge of the Mystery Schools. One must be willing to look past the sometimes dated, but almost never arcane, language and the occasionally sensationalist tone of this book to fully appreciate its value. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this little book is actually quite readable considering it was written in the early 1900's.

As far as the intermixture of Eastern mysticism (as mentioned as a major negative by one of the lowest scored reviews to this book) as the true initiate to the Hermetic Mysteries knows, the Hermetic Philosophy was a Greco-Egyptian synthesis of esoteric truths and methods that were not limited to the historical periods and regions of ancient Greece and Old Kingdom Egypt. To include yogic principles and yogic techniques in the book is quite appropriate.

Suspend your reluctance lest you are disinclined to buy this book because if its date of publication or its occasional inaccuracies (understandable given that in 1912 we were less than 50 years from the rebirth of the serious and open, as opposed to secret, study of Hermetics - which had been obscured for centuries). Even though it is available, if you look hard enough, on the WWW (and no please don't ask me for the site), I already own one copy and am in the process of buying another from Amazon for use in another location. I don't own too many "doubles" of books on magic or the practice of mysticism (I am not that rich), and that should tell you something.

Good Reading...Louis

5-0 out of 5 stars A View of The Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece +++
Due to the very wide and deep areas covered by "The Kybalion" and the historical fog around the "three authors" and "their" origins and related authors and their origins -- I will only claim my own very personal [and very independant] Rosicrucian understanding of this little book. I understand "The Kybalion" as the single best presentation of Rosicrucian Philosophy -- which would seem to be part of the background of the quite likely real author of this work -- William Walker Atkinson [and maybe others]. Possible Symbolist meanings of Rose-and-Cross are such Dyads as Laws-and-Trial, Life-and-Trust, Love-and-Truth and Mary-and-Jesus -- as well as exoteric and esoteric meanings of Christian Rosenkreuz. The major content of "The Kybalion" is in as much ordered detail as just sufficient and necessary to guide one towards such Dyadic Philosophy -- as well a transcendant guide to further Inspiration that is unlimited -- due to the expansive generality of this little book. Understanding increases upon every re-reading. The exact ordering of topics -- based on the Seven Hermetic Principles -- is most precise and natural -- as is the exact intention of other aspects of "The Kybalion" -- down to careful explanations of principles, examples and usages thereof, and the exact wording used for all the prose. Interesting that this little book is from 1908 -- considering the close harmony with later Relativity and Quantum Dynamics -- matter as a form of energy and levels and vibrations of such energy -- as just so remarked upon in "The Kybalion". Ever-Inspiring +++

5-0 out of 5 stars A great research tool!
The Kybalion is one of the main philosophies that Occultists draw on - over and over again - sometimes without knowing it- and this book has much for the novice as for the advanced practitioner. Some of the material will help you understand some of the stumbling blocks when working on a particular occult project.I recommend this book 100% and can offer a few other key books if you are looking for just practical occult teachings, i.e. how to achieve occult power instead of just plain research (but these books that I am about to recommend really are not for the novice, they are strictly for someone seeking occult power and who can keep it in check):

True Astral Worship: Why Today, More Than Ever, Are The Pre-Religions Very Important.

The New Avatar And The Destiny Of The Soul: Answers To The Question: Why?

Second Sight: A Study Of Natural And Induced Clairvoyance

How To Read The Crystal: With A Concise Dictionary Of Astrological Terms

Finding The Higher Powers Of Mind And Spirit: The Way To The Prime Goal

How To Achieve Clairvoyance And Occult Power

Getting In Tune With The Infinite: A Guide To Fullness Of Peace, Power, And Plenty

Each of these books, as well as The Kybalion can help you find the astral plane, but what you do there, and why you go there is your affair.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-Have Book on Hermetics
After reading this book, I can say this is very insightful guide to the principles underlying hermetic. Each of the seven principles is presented and discussed in an easy to understand manner. However, to apply these principles to your life is another matter. This book is not about the practice of hermitic, but about the primal philosophy that transcend mysticism and religion. It is an invaluable addition to your library, but only if you are ready for it.

The author(s) of this book, who we know only as Three Initiates, starts out describing the fundamentals of the hermetic history and philosophy. Then it briefly introduces the seven principles of hermetic, setting a framework for further discussion:

I. The Principle of Mentalism
II. The Principle of Correspondence
III. The Principle of Vibration
IV. The Principe of Polarity
V. The Principle of Rhythm
VI. The Principle of Cause and Effect
VII. The Principle of Gender

Prior presenting each principle, Three Initiates builds up the necessary knowledge to understand it better. For example, concepts of "Mental Transmutation" and "The All" are discussed before starting with the Principle of Mentalism. Each principle is explained with some detail, and multiple examples.

Finally, Three Initiates advices us against the pursuing Knowledge without expressing it into Action, which otherwise becomes a vain affair. In the last chapter, it summarizes the previously presented principles and briefly explain how to approach them.

This is a book that belongs to every mystical library, but paradoxically, not the first that a new student of hermetic should approach. For that purpose, I would recommend Initiation into Hermetics by Franz Bardon or The New Hermetics: 21st Century Magick for Illumination and Power by Jason Augustus Newcomb. However, the philosophical content in this book is approachable from any mystical foundation, not just hermetics. As such, buy it because eventually you will find it in your path to mysticism.
