    Extractions: A major retrospective of the notorious late artist Andy Warhol is the cynosure of side shows scheduled for the 65th annual Thessaloniki International Trade Fair , held between September 2-11 in the Northern Greek city. With the USA being this years honoured country, organisers have scheduled numerous events to celebrate and promote its culture, sports and other social activities. The Warhol exhibition, entitled Figment: The Life and Work of Andy Warhol , is jointly organised by the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Penn., the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the Municipality of Thessaloniki . Running from August 22 through September 19 at the museum's new wing, it comprises 70 large-scale works, including the famous portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Mao Tse-Tung, Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor. Pop art classics, such as the Campbell soup tins and the Coca-Cola bottles, will also be on show, as will some works by Julia Warhola, the artist's mother. Warhol's legacy Warhol is considered by the art world as the most important representative of the pop-art movement of the 60s and 70s. It was he who first used everyday consumer goods turning them into high art. Born in 1928 in Pittsburgh by Czech immigrants, Warhol influenced an entire generation of younger artists. In 1962 he set up his studio, the groundbreaking Factory, which was both a meeting place for artists of all kinds as well as a production centre for thousands of works of art. He died in 1987 following post-operation complications.
