If you could be there, here's what you'd find. My music supports my basic philosophy: I think that children are growing up too fast, and my songs let them dwell in the world where children are most comfortable and let them be kids for a bit longer The other side of it, as I am told by many of you, is that my songs truly remind adults of what it was to be a child, to take them back to their own childhood and experience it again. That re-experiencing seems to warm the heart and, for a little while, it quiets the noisy insistence of modern life. A Little History I grew up in a household where music was ever-present. We always had a piano that my mother played. I began to play around on the piano when I was about 8.

Extractions: Philosophy Regarding Support Recently I asked some friends of mine, who have an orphanage with over 70 children, "How do you tell your supporters about the needs of your ministry?" They replied, "Oh, we don't do that anymore! Some who follow our ministry got really annoyed so we don't share about needs anymore" "Really? Annoyed? Why is that? " I've spent a lot of time thinking about what my friends told me, because for as often as some of our supporters have asked to be told about the needs of the ministry, others have suggested that we should not do so. However, the Scriptures are really silent on the subject when addressed specifically, though saying much in the context of the subject of giving, which I will share more about later. But where then does the idea come from that needs we have, as individuals or as ministries, should be shared with God alone and not with others? When we were preparing to come into the field, I read everything I could on certain well known missionaries of days gone by. In particular, the lives and works of two of these missionaries I read more than all the others; George Mueller and Amy Carmichael. These two great servants of God were known for their published position against making the needs of their ministries known publicly. I suppose, then, it's natural for those who have shared that they do not think that needs should be published to ask me if I'm familiar with these two missionaries.

Kids First Philosophy Eighth and ninth grade students at Eastmont Jr. High School were surveyed (using the Search Institute Profiles Survey) to determine the existence of 40 assets within their community. The surveys were sent to Search Institute for analysis and the results indicated that the average number of assets reported by Eastmont Jr. High School students was 18. This was much lower than expected and demonstrates the need to develop programs to move from the average, 18 assets, to between 31 and 40 assets over the next three to five years. Hundreds of communities across the United States are discovering the power and potential of uniting efforts for asset building. They involve people from all parts of the community in shaping and coordinating strategies that will help all young people be more likely to succeed. The goal of Kids First in our area is to build community-based support for developing positive activities and programs for our youth. My practice is to allow children to develop at the pace that is relaxed and comfortable for them, and to offer them support and encouragement throughout their learning process. In this period of development when children are rapidly acquiring language, motor, and early social skills, individual attention helps children to learn rapidly and to gain self-confidence. I also believe young children feel secure in home day care because of the smaller number of children. Familiarity is sometimes easier learned in smaller groups; therefore children can further overcome shyness and build friendships. I believe in providing a warm and safe environment so children can fully express themselves. Throughout the day a child needs to experience lots of nurturing, laughing, smiling, and conversation.
