5-0 out of 5 stars Operative Obstetrics Treasure
This book is simply fantastic. For the practicing obstetrician, it encompasses almost all the issues dealing with the specialty, concerning operative techniques. For the student, there is a lot of new approaches tosubjects that other books do not show. For example, there's an entirechapter on symphysiotomy, another on external cephalic version, bothsubjects very rarely seen in such depth in common textbooks. There's also avery good chapter on surgical basics, dealing with needles, sutures andknots. In short, i recommend this book for those who truly love Obstetrics'practice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Info, but a little on the lean side...
This book is filled with decent answers to some good questions about OB/GYN coding.Topics covered are Office and Outpatient Visits, Modifiers and Fees, Gynecologic Surgeries, Infertility, Vaccinations, Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy, OB Services, and Ultrasound procedures. Each section has an average of 10 or so questions (although some have more and others less).

The only thing I didn't like about this was it's only about 100 pages, including the indexes.Although it answers 130 questions, I found it a little lean in terms of someone who is just starting out with OB/GYN billing and not extraordinary in the sense that only a few of the 130 questions answered were anything I could use.Honestly, I think I could have found those answers by using a search engine.

It is a good reference, since you never know when a particular question may appear, so in a sense it's handy to have, however, if you are looking for a comprehensive go-to guide, I'd pass on this for the price. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Volume II Gynecology
This is a second edition of the original German text published in 1997. It's quite surprising that the original text was published so long ago and now the English edition was supposed to be more up to date, as it was published in 2007. Paging through the book, there are many ultrasound pictures that aren't so pretty looking. They still convey the imaging findings but not as visually pleasing as our current sharp ultrasound images as you might expect in a book published in 2007. There are many pictures in the second half of the book using endovaginal 360 degree type coverage which I am not familiar with. Overall this is a good book but for the money, there are better books out there. ... Read more

The ultimate case-based review of OB/GYN-ideal for exam prep and clinical reference

4 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW!
"In a busy field like obstetrics/gynecology, this book provides a useful review of relevant topics in vignette fashion. It offers excellent references at the end of each vignette to more critically review topics as well. Excellent for CREOGs or board review."--Doody's Review Service

Using a unique “vignette & question” format at the core of a case conference, this one-of-a-kind resource expertly explains clinical and educational concepts-each selected for their relevance for clinical practice and preparation for any test you may face. After a brief, illustrated clinical presentation (one or two figures per vignette), the authors “work through” the diagnosis and management of a particular case, answering questions as they go. Supporting this real-world, bedside perspective are appropriate references for all of the evidence-based answers, plus brief explanations that call attention to key concepts and information.

Obstetrics & Gynecology features:

  • 150 clinical vignettes in one convenient volume, covering the full spectrum of OB/GYN, from postpartum mastitis and fetal heart rate monitoring… to elective abortion… to breast and cervical cancer
  • 1000 questions and answers relating to each clinical vignette-an easy-to-read, evidence-based study tool for review
  • Study-enhancing complete references that conveniently accompany answers to the clinical vignette questions
  • A streamlined, easy-access organization that includes sections on office management (including general health and screening), obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive endocrine and infertility, gynecologic oncology, and urogynecology
  • And much more ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars poor compared to blueprints
I bought this book as well as Blueprints and Case Files because they were all highly rated.Generally I found Blueprints to be far better than First Aid.It is better in preparing you for the shelf and for pimping on the rounds.I found First Aid to be poorly organized and not nearly detailed enough for the shelf. The book is organized into an outline format with lots and lots of lists and bullets with little explanation and few useful mnemonics to actually help you retain the data. There were also lots of "pearls" on the margins that were more distracting than useful. Finally the book suffers from not having a table of common acronyms which made it extremely difficult to read/understand in the first week or two.Though I can imagine this book being a good review once you've already gone through the material (that's what I ended up using it for), in my opinion it is wholly inadequate as your only reading source.Blueprints and Case Files, along with a question book, are what you really need to do well on the shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars review from MSIV
Great book for all MSIII's or any medical student interested in OB/GYN, doing 4th year electives, etc.Great reveiw, fast read.Highly recommend it for the shelf exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must on OB Rotation.
Well, I just took the shelf today and can truly tell that reading this book more than once would have been beneficial.
If you have used previous First Aid books, this one is written in the similar format with many useful facts on the sides of the pages.
I read Blueprints and that was useful, however, when it came down to knowing the facts and being able to recollect them easily and quickly than this book does it best. I would recommend going through it twice (once slowly and another time as a refresher)
However, you do also need a Question book for the shelf.
I am definitely keeping this book to study for Step 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Aid for the OB/Gyn clerkship
This is great for MSIIIs starting their OB/Gyn Clerkship--it covers all of the high points of the field in a very clear format and prepares students well for their Shelf exam at the end of the rotation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book...
If you don't want to plow through 600+ pages of Beckmann, or some other text (i.e. you aren't aiming to specialize in OB/Gyn), you'll love this book.Information is well organized and easy to get through if you enjoy the First Aid format.I never liked the texts...I loved the BRS outline style and First Aid books.I haven't taken the shelf exam yet, but as for my last 2 months on the wards, this book has been a great resource. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars As Good as The Clerkship is Surgical
Surgery is strange because you know what you are walking into so you can do some directed preparation and then the case provides time and reason for some highly directed pimping. I found surgery to be almost game like: I read recall, they ask the questions in recall with few exceptions. As a result surgical recall is invaluable.

Gyn/Gyn Onc are surgical and thus the same rules apply to some extent. I've never found the recall books to be readable as review books; however, this one is every bit as useful as surgical recall for pre case preparation. OB/Gyn did involve more on the floor medicine style teaching/learning/pimping for which this book comes up short (unless you really have the stomach to read it cover to cover).

Overall I'd buy this book again.

4-0 out of 5 stars obgyn recall
I really like the books i've used in the Recall series. None will compare to Surgery Recall, but they are all very helpful and fit my style of learning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Gem in the Recal Series
Second only to Surgical Recall in the series, this was an invaluable tool for preparation, particularly on the mornings or evenings prior to GYN surgery.Use it to review the pertinent anatomy and physiology prior to attendance in the OR and you will be rewarded by escaping that uncomfortable silence that ensues when you don't have a clue to those inevitable pimps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Obstetrics and Gynecology Recall
