5-0 out of 5 stars Sure fire way to weight loss.
This Diet Works!!Just as it did back in the 70's when I tried it after my first pregnancy.I like the simplicity of the diet.I also like that Dr. Stillman recommends low fat proteins compared to Atkins - eat anything protein no matter how many fats it contains. No cravings for carbs, sweets, alcohol.2 months next week on this diet - the pounds keep falling off.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ONLY tried and successful life altering "Diet"
I initially purchased this book in 1970 when I wanted to loose 15 pounds before a trip to Europe.I lost 25 pounds in a month. It changed my eating habits and my taste buds to appreciate good food in its natural state.I also lost 45 pounds of "baby weight" in 1978 in two months and kept it off until menopause set in (2008).The regimen is so SUCCESSFUL that someone stole the book from my bookshelf. Unfortunately, it is out of print in the United States so the copy I purchased from Amazon came from England.I just wish that it would be reprinted in the United State again.Dr. Stillman is my HERO when it comes to health and weight control. I have spent thousands of dollars on other "diet books", Weight Watchers, etc., but I invariably always went back to Dr. Stillman's Quick
Weight Loss Diet.I have sworn by it for 39 years and recommend it to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning Results
This is the most motivating and postive experance I've ever had with a diet. Lost 30 lbs in 8 weeks. In fact evertime you go to a scale, you find you have lost another one or two pounds! I love turkey breast, and cottage cheese, and I could drown in it, and still lose! The water is not so hard to drink. you just keep a water bottle with you, and take sips throughout the day. The only negative I had was my clothes started smothering me, and I had to buy new ones! This is the easiest diet, if you have alot of weight to get off. Anyone can do it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stillman Gone but the Diet Lives On
Folks, Dr. Stillman died of heart disease in the 1970s. He's been gone a while. However, this diet is still hands-down the best thing out there to drop the weight. I use Stillman intermittently with a carb-up carb-down approach to match my activity level, and I've been maintaining for 5 years. (In that time, I've run 9 marathons and done 5 triathlons.) My blood work is always excellent, and my doctor always says, "keep up the great work."

I'm currently training for a 50-mile race, so I'm carbier than usual these days, but I see runners all the time who have guts, paunches, and excess body fat. It's inevitable as you get older even if you exercise a lot. I credit the Stillman plan with keeping me lean all these years.I've got nice ab definition and great muscularity.

Couldn't have done it without Stillman as my baseline plan.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best freakin' diet EVER!
If you are TRUELY motivated and serious about losing weight,(and quickly to boot!),then this is the diet to do!I lost almost 30 lbs in a month..that's just insane!

The Stillman's diet is very easy to follow...low carbs, low fats like eggs, tuna, chicken, fish, spices, and tons of water!YES,the diet is severe and at first hard to follow..but after a few days, your hunger is gone COMPLETELY and you have to FORCE yourself to eat!

I agree with the other reviewers that there's a reason why people are still doing this diet after all these years...because it's the best and it works! ... Read more

Product Description
About one in three American children is either overweight or obese.Childhood obesity is a crisis robbing youth of health and energy, and even causing children to die prematurely. Obesity among children, which is likely to carry over to adulthood, is also linked to a greater risk of high cholesterol, diabetes, early heart disease, and high blood pressure.

New Prescription for Childhood Obesity provides an innovative approach to fighting childhood obesity by using nature’s powerful super-antioxidants and phytonutrients. The traditional method for weight loss and fat reduction has been to eat less and exercise more, but this does not work for children over the long haul. To permanently lose pounds and toxic inflammatory belly fat requires addressing the root cause of the problem: oxidative stress, insulin resistance and the low-grade chronic inflammation triggered by many factors, including unhealthy foods and environmental causes such as exposure to pesticides, industrial pollutants, and toxins.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Innovative Approach to Fighting Childhood Obesity
An Innovative Approach to Fighting Childhood Obesity

By William Sun, PhD

Book Title: New Prescription for Childhood Obesity
Author: Billy C. Johnson, M.D., PhD
Publisher: iUniverse, inc.
Publishing Time: 2008
ISBN: 978-0-595-45343-6 (pbk)

Childhood obesity is a common health issue around the major part of the world, including the developed countries like the United States and many newly emerging countries like China. There are over 155 million children who have suffered from this illness around the world. In the United States alone, there are over 9 million children with childhood obesity. This health issue seems to be more critical now than before, as more and more children have increasingly got overweight and the solutions to this problem have proven to be less effective. This is why the book New Prescription for Childhood Obesity looks important, as it promises to provide a new and effective solution to the childhood weight problem. This gives a genuine hope for all the frustrated children and their parents.

The ineffectiveness of the mainstream prescriptions to childhood obesity is due to conventional limited understandings of this illness. For instance, many people including medical professionals believe that the cause of obesity is "eating more and exercising less". And then the treatment for obesity is simply "eating less and exercising more". Dr. Johnson, the author of this book, argues that this approach does not work over the long term because it is unsustainable. Furthermore, the traditional approach does not address the fundamental cause of childhood obesity. According to Dr. Johnson, the actual cause of obesity and its associated chronic diseases is rooted in damaging free radicals throughout the body, which trigger oxidative stress and low-grade silent inflammation. It is oxidative stress and the silent inflammation that produces inflammatory hormones and chemicals, which turn on genes causing fat storage and disease and in the meanwhile, turn off genes reducing inflammation and health risks. Therefore, any effective solution to childhood obesity must address the issue of damaging free radicals.
It is based on the fundamental understandings of childhood obesity that Dr. Johnson provides a newer approach to fighting childhood obesity. This new solution rests on employing nature's powerful super-antioxidants and phytonutrients to deactivate damaging free radicals. Rather than focusing on conventional "dieting" approach producing only short-term weight loss and fat reduction, in this book Dr. Johnson provides children with specific simple strategies, techniques, and skills for eating not only high quality foods, but the right amount of food appropriate for their level of physical activity without dieting or restrictions. The easy-to-follow long-term solutions teach children to maintain a healthy lifestyle that can automatically become a normal part of their daily routine. In so doing, children will have a better chance of reducing excess body fat and maintaining a healthy body that produces less oxidative stress and inflammation and leads to less craving and overeating. The benefits of this new approach can be more, such as increase in energy, growth of muscle tissue, and a faster metabolism that converts calories into cellular energy instead of toxic fat.
It is noticeable that unlike the traditional approach that prescribes universally applied treatments for all children, this book emphasizes tailored programs to meet the actual demands and requirements of individual children. Hence, specific factors like children's personalities, eating habits, levels of physical activities, and food varieties and cooking styles must be incorporated into a therapy program and considered as a strategy for reducing obesity and inflammation.
Dr. Johnson also informs us that Inflammation comes not just from foods and diets, but also from many other sources, such as the body conditions (bacteria, viruses, infections, the digestive systems, etc.), the natural environment (e.g., environmental pollutions), and the social environment (e.g., cultures, social conventions and life styles). Thus, an effective solution to childhood obesity should be a comprehensive and systematic solution, rather than purely relied on a single diet program or a physical activity program. This holistic way of thinking about childhood obesity is inspirational.
Another remarkable characteristic of this book is that it provides valuable information and knowledge as well as workable strategies and skills directly to parents. Indeed, it is parents' duties and responsibilities to care about their children's overweight problem and the long-term solutions. Particularly, parents need to educate themselves before they can teach and help their children. To use Dr. Johnson's words, parents should be "a positive role model" (p. 46). In many cases, children's obesity comes from their parents, particularly their unhealthy life styles and eating habits. Therefore, the key solution to childhood obesity actually rests upon the minds and behaviours of parents. For instance, in their reproductive years, women need to plan ahead of pregnancy to ensure that their children will not be overweighed before they are born, thereby to reduce the possible risk for their children of developing obesity in their childhood and adulthood. This parents perspective throughout the entire book is very insightful.
This book has 14 chapters with five appendices. The first six chapters contain the basic theories and knowledge on childhood obesity, in which the theoretical foundation for the new approach to fighting childhood obesity is laid down. However, the new theory on childhood obesity looks thin in here. More articulations and explorations may be needed to widen and deepen the understandings and to address the complexities of childhood obesity. The later eight chapters focus on food choices, diet styles and food supplements, which provide very detailed information and skills and techniques for parents to help their children to get enough antioxidants and phytonutrients to neutralize the high levels of free radicals produced from eating foods and from environmental pollutants. The appendices are also very useful, as they offer a daily meal plan and more than 40 recipes for obesity reduction.

Overall, this is a very valuable book on childhood obesity. The understanding on obesity issues is distinctive and fairly fundamental, the new approach to fighting childhood obesity is innovative, and the strategies, methods and techniques used in the new remedy program are helpful. The presentation of this book is clear, fluent and easy to be understood by all readers even with little knowledge of medicine. To all the parents who care about their children's weight, this book is an essential read.

Product Description
The Leptin Diet explains how to unleash the power of hormones to resolve fatigue, food cravings, thyroid problems, and body weight issues. Mastering the fat hormone leptin is the single most important factor in preventing obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The Leptin Diet contains five simple lifestyle guidelines to get the hormone leptin into balance for permanent weight loss, increased energy, and optimum health.

What is Leptin? Fat cells produce the powerful hormone leptin, a primary force instructing metabolism, weight loss, and hormone balance. Leptin communicates directly to your brain, telling the brain how much fat is in storage. It controls appetite, energy, and metabolic rate. Leptin problems are the primary reason for food cravings, overeating, faulty metabolism, the obsession with food, and heart disease. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great (Non) Diet
I have to agree with C. Conners' review.I have only been following this "diet" (that is not really a diet) for 3 weeks and I am bouncing off the walls with energy and mental clarity.I am spending less on groceries and the very first week I lost a waist size in my pants.I have not changed what I am eating at all (My diet is pretty healthy and organic to begin with).I thought I would be hungry or feel weak, but this is not the case at all.(I should have known the "eat every 2-3 hours" philosophy of mainstream "experts" was bogus - Who has time or the digestive energy to eat 5 to 6 times per day?!This is non-sense.Think back a generation or two before our whole country got fat...If you would have told my grandfather to eat 5 to 6 times per day, he would have looked at you like you were an idiot. He was one of the strongest, fit men - just like others of his day.He ate 3 meals a day and didn't snack.)

I felt weaker before because I was constantly stressing my pancreas to come up with more insulin and never letting a full digestion cycle occur.Like other reviews I have read, I have found that I actually get tired at night and can sleep, whereas before I ate late and couldn't get to bed before 1 or 2.

I also run a holistic acupuncture practice and have put a few of my patients on the leptin diet. They also have responded well.Even one lady who has suffered for 15 years with fibromyalgia and a myriad of other systemic problems says that she feels energy and like "her old self" for the first time since becoming ill.She is also losing sizes.

I think the Mastering Leptin book is full of more research for those wanting the nitty gritty science behind why it works.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money!
After having my leptin tested, I have been reseaching and reading. This book is the worst book I have purchased. It is an easy read but offers no practical advice. It talks in a circle. The idease presented do not coincide with current research. Save your money and do not buy this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Reading
Seldom does the introduction of a book grab me, but this one surely did. It was an interesting read all the way through, and I am now more aware of the quality of foods I am eating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective, common sense
I accidentally happened upon this book.On a forum I frequent, one of the folks posted a very scientific explanation of leptin that was, frankly, over my head. But my curiosity was piqued, especially since I was, at the time, trying to lose a couple pounds. After doing my research on the subject, and coming across many articles on the subject that were over my head as well (I was *not* a science major!), I found that Byron Richards was supposed to have written a good book on the subject and in non-scientific terms, Mastering Leptin.I didn't want to pay for that book, so I cheaped out and bought this one.I just wanted to read about the basics, to see if I might be interested in the longer book.I didn't want to pay too much money for a book I couldn't understand!

So, I bought this, and it was perfectly comprehensible and made such perfect sense that I found a way to apply these principles to my own life. That was about three weeks ago, when I was trying to lose five pounds.I've lost eight so far.And it's basically effortless, as long as you look at it properly. The 'diet' boils down to this:Don't snack, and plan your meals for at least 4 hours apart, though 5-6 is preferable. Also, give your body time to digest your food before bedtime (about 5 hours). There are also guidelines on what you should put on your plate (not too many carbs, a reasonable amount of protein and non-starchy veggies). And include a little exercise in your days.

I almost knocked this down a star, because he's a little over the top about natural foods (beyond just plain eating organic). However, the principles of eating described in the book are just so... good that I didn't want to turn anyone off the book.Anyone who has a mind of their own can figure out what is or isn't going to work for them, personally. And common sense is all it takes to figure out if this plan is do-able for you.

It's worked so well for me that, already, I can't imagine why I would grab a snack when my stomach wasn't truly empty.Just habit.A hard habit to break, but I feel so much better now!I've learned to distinguish between feeling 'snacky' and actually being hungry, with the help of this book.Good job.

5-0 out of 5 stars must read!
This is so concise and practical!Do read his bigger book called Mastering Leptin for even deeper understanding! ... Read more
